  • Right then, that is all we have from what has been a fascinating first Test match of this series. We will now take a trip to the south of Australia as Adelaide Oval awaits for the Pink-ball Test. That game will start on Thursday, December 8 and it promises to be another cracking encounter. The action will start at 9.30 am IST (4 am GMT). Our coverage though starts well in advance. So, do join us for the same. Till then, it's goodbye and cheers!
  • Pat Cummins, the Australian skipper starts by addressing his injury and says that he is fine and he could bowl but luckily it didn't get that close. Mentions that the boys played well and he is looking forward to the next Test in Adelaide and hopes to be out there on the field but says that they will assess for a couple of days. Adds that on Aussie wickets there could be big partnerships as the wickets could flat out a bit and when he was down the other quicks stepped up and Nathan Lyon just loves to bowl here. On Marnus, he says that he is ridiculous and is a superstar. On Lyon, he says that even when there's not much on offer, he is able to find a way.
  • Kraigg Brathwaite, the skipper of West Indies says that they are disappointed with the loss but they should commend the batters for the way they fought. Tells that in the first innings they gave away with the bat but they need to think as a bowling group how to go about their business to take 20 wickets in the match. Tells that they wanted to play just normal cricket and then take the game from thereon. Tells that they would have gone for the target had they got a good start but admits that they need to work hard to improve further. Says that the century he scored means a lot to him and he wanted to lead from the front especially as the opening batter. Informs that Roach is suffering a bit with injury and he wants to wait and see how it goes and pick the best XI for the next Test.
  • Marnus Labuschagne is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for surpassing a century in both innings of the match. He says that the ground is pretty similar to his home ground in Brisbane with a lot of bounce in it. Adds that the first innings was more special as the bounce was like a tennis ball and to get through that was a good feeling. Adds that it was a nice and fiery spell from Alzarri Joseph in the second innings and he just kept hoping around and mentions that it was a good feeling to be able to play well after that no-ball wicket. Mentions that when you come back to Test cricket after a bit of a break, the thing that works best is to play as many balls as possible.
  • Time for the Presentation..
  • This victory was the culmination of what Australia did over the course of five days. They were dominant with the bat on Day 1 and after that West Indies were always behind the 8-ball. Marnus Labuschagne scored a double century in the first innings and followed it up with another century in the second one while Smith also scored a double ton in his first outing with the bat. These huge number of runs proved too much for the West Indies in the end but they should be proud of their effort especially with the bat and quite clearly their openers were the biggest positives for them in this game. Windies would be hoping to build on this performance and come up with even better cricket in Adelaide.
  • The man of the moment, Nathan Lyon is down for a chat. He says that it's a great way to start and to come here at Perth and get a win is wonderful. Adds that they have some of the best players in their ranks and it's a pleasure to play with them. Says that Kraigg Brathwaite batted very well but he was able to find the rough and get him out. Mentions that Cummins seems to be fine and hopes that he will be in shape for the summer. On Marnus Labuschagne, Lyon says that he is an incredible player and has been doing well for the national side for a few years now. Jokingly says that Marnus Labuschagne wants all the players to call him 'baby GOAT,' but Lyon isn't sure about that one yet.
  • West Indies, on the other hand, showed lot of fight. Not many expected them to take this game so deep into the final day. However, their skipper played a fantastic captain’s knock scoring a century on the way and held the innings together as he got good support from couple of batters. His wicket early in the Day 5 though was a big blow and even though Chase and Joseph put up a brilliant counter-attacking stand for the 8th wicket, it was too much to do for them in the end.
  • Australia were under a bit of pressure coming into the Day 5 but honestly, they were always favourties to win this one. Lyon started the morning with a bang and got two big wickets of Mayers and Kraigg Brathwaite early. That opened the doors for them and when they got four wickets in the opening session this win was always around the corner. They, however, were made to work very hard in the afternoon session but eventually Head broke the 82-run stand between Joseph and Chase and then Lyon finished things off as he grabbed his 21st five-wicket haul and took 8 wickets in the game which includes six in the final innings. Overall, a convincing bowling performance by the Aussies, especially given the fact that they were missing the services of Cummins with the ball.
  • It’s a hard-fought victory for the Aussies and they go 1-0 up in this two-match Test series now! West Indies fought hard for four days and they came with hopes of pulling off something special on Day 5 but Australia were just too good for them on this final day. Pat Cummins and his boys now inch closer to that World Test Championship final as they consolidate their top position on the WTC points table.
  • 110.5OUT! TIMBER! That's it, Australia have done it! Lovely bit of bowling once again from Nathan Lyon and he ends the innings with 6 wickets in his bag. This is flighted up on a nagging length and around off. Kemar Roach looks to play for the turn and puts out a dead bat at it but the ball goes straight on with the arm and knocks over the top of off stump. Roach departs for a golden duck and Australia win by 164 runs. 333/10
  • Kemar Roach is the last man in.
  • 110.4OUT! TAKEN! Nathan Lyon has the last laugh here and picks up a brilliant five-wicket haul. Lyon gioves it a bit more air and shortens the length ever so slightly on middle and leg. Roston Chase looks to just heave it aerially and in front of mid-wicket but gets undone in flight and ends up playing it off the inner half of the bat and much squarer. Mitchell Starc from deep mid-wicket rushes in and dives forward to take a good low catch. End of a fighting knock from Chase and Australia are onje wicket away from victory.

  • Drinks break! Well, the golden arm of Travis Head has worked wonders for the Aussies who were being thoroughly frustrated with this pair. Alzarri Joseph and Roston Chase were going great guns after the lunch break and both of them took on Nathan Lyon, whacking him over the ropes on multiple occasions and they dealt with the threat of Mitchell Starc as well. The pair put on 82 vaulable runs but now Australia have just two wickets left to take and will, be looking to finish things off here. Also, Jayden Seales walks out to bat.
  • 103.6OUT! BOWLED! This time he is gone and finally, Australia manage to break this partnership! What an inspired bowling change by Cummins. This is bowled quicker and flatter on off. Joseph tries to defend it and plays for a turn. However, it is again the natural variation of the off-spinner that does the trick as the ball goes straight and beats the outside edge of Joseph's blade. The ball goes onto knock over the stumps and can Australia wrap this match quickly now? 315/8
  • 103.5Oh, dropped! This is slower through the air again and outside off. Joseph tries to defend it off the front foot. However, the ball catches the outside edge of his blade. Carey though fails to judge the line of the ball and the ball hits his leg and deflects away. Will it cost Australia?

  • We are all set for the second sesion of Day 5! It could well turn out to be the final session of this Test match. Australian players make their way out to the middle in a hope to wrap this one up quickly. Roston Chase and Alzarri Joseph also stride out to the middle now to resume their innings. Mitchell Starc to start with the ball. Here we go...
  • … DAY 5, SESSION 2 …
  • Right then, just 3 wickets in hand and still 64 overs left to fend off. Things aren't looking anywhere as bright for West Indies as they looked when they headed into the dressing room at the end of Day 4. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite seemed like the only one to offer resistance as Kyle Mayers fell early in the day. This opened the floodgates and the skipper couldn't hang around either. Roston Chase and Alzarri Joseph both capable of wielding a willow are at the crease but it would be very hopeful to expect them to keep this Aussie attack at bay for two more sessions. Will we see a quick finish to the game after the break? Or will West Indies just frustrate the Aussies a bit more? Find out soon as the post-lunch session starts at 10.30 am IST (5 am GMT).
  • The big question at the end of Day 4 was not necessarily if but when the Aussies decided to press the issue and well, they didn't waste much time. With still a fair few overs left for the second new ball, Pat Cummins trusted his most experienced bowler Nathan Lyon to take advantage of a Day 5 pitch, and boy didn't he repay every penny. Lyon was spot on with his change of pace and length as well and picked up 2 out of the 4 wickets that fell in this session, the most important one being that of the Windies skipper. Australia can sense victory here and will look to wrap things up soon after the interval.

Lovely loopy delivery that pitches just short of full length angling from 'round the wicket. Mayers pushes forward to defend it. However, the ball turns and catches the outside edge of his blade. • We are all ready for the Day 5 of this Test match! Australian players have made their way out to the middle. The two overnight West Indies batters, Kraigg Brathwaite and Kyle Mayers also stride out to the middle now. Mitchell Starc to start with the ball. Here we go...
  • Australia though have been ahead in the game all throughout and played some brave cricket in the opening session of Day 4 which ensured that their bowlers have that extra cushion to bowl out the Windies in this final innings. Pat Cummins did not bowl on Day 4 but he is set to bowl on Day 5 and this morning session can well prove to be a decisive one in the final result of this Test match. Stay tuned!
  • All three results are still possible at least in theory but the odds of Australia clinching this game are still quite high. West Indies though have seven wickets in hand and if they can apply themselves with the bat, the way they did in the two sessions of Day 4 we could have an interesting finish to this game. The Windies skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite was the hero for West Indies on Day 4 and is unbeaten on 101 and a lot will depend on how he goes about his business on this final day.
  • Hello and a very warm welcome folks! The stage is set for a riveting finish as we are ready for the Day 5 of this first Test match between Australia and West Indies. It has been a fascinating Test so far with West Indies finding ways to keep themselves alive despite being pushed against the wall on a number of occasions. Not many people expected them to show the kind of fight and character they have shown and now if they can come up with something special on this final day, it can turn out to be a memorable day for this young West Indies team.
  • … DAY 5, SESSION 1 …
  • West Indies would be pretty proud of this batting effort and they should thank their skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite who has played a true captain’s knock here and is unbeaten on 101. They were a bit flat in the morning session with the ball after that initial fiery spell by Joseph but have done brilliantly here with the bat. The young debutant, Tagenarine Chanderpaul showed some great skills and character just like his skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite and both of them compiled a brilliant century stand to take West Indies to Tea without any damage. However, the biggest positive here for the West Indies is that they have not let the pressure get to them when they lost Chanderpaul and Brooks in quick succession early in the final session. The captain and vice-captain, Jermaine Blackwood did not let Australia build on that momentum and it was only at the fag end of the day that West Indies lost their third wicket. We are surely in for a fascinating final day of this Test match with all three results still possible. The action on Day 5 will begin at 7.50 am IST (2.20 am GMT) on Sunday, 4th of December. Do join us for the build-up as well. Cheers!
  • Australia came out in the morning session with an aggressive approach and scored runs at a brisk pace riding on a century by Marnus Labuschagne and useful contributions by Warner and Smith. The declaration came during the Lunch break but Cummins sat out due to an injury and Australia could not manage to break the opening stand in the afternoon session. However, Starc managed to break the 116-run stand early in the final session and that brought the spirits up of the Aussie camp and soon Lyon got rid of Brooks as well. However, after that despite a brilliant spell from Josh Hazlewood and some crafty spin bowling by Lyon, Australia were denied a breakthrough for a long time and just when it seemed that West Indies will end the day without further damage, Lyon bowled a beauty to break the resistance of Blackwood. Aussies are surely still the favourites but it won’t be a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination.
  • What a riveting final session we have witnessed here! This is what Test cricket is all about, the will and character to keep fighting when things don’t go your way and to do it over a long period of time. Both teams have given their all in this final session and Australia managed to pick three wickets but West Indies will be pretty happy with this fight and would be going into Day 5 with high hopes of getting a draw from this one. Or if you are anyone of those optimistic thinkers then you might even give them a chance to win this one now with 306 runs needed to win on the final day.
  • 61.6Nicely flighted, around middle and leg, Kraigg Brathwaite defends it out and after a bit of teasing, the umpires dislodge the bails. That will be Stumps on Day 4! 192/3

  • 59.1Well swept away but equally well fielded in the deep. Tossed up around off, Kraigg Brathwaite gets down on one knee and sweeps it behind square on the leg side. Mitchell Starc from deep square leg runs around to his right and slides in to make the stop. Two runs are taken and Brathwaite is just one away from a century.
  • 58.6Back of a length and around off, hurrying onto the batter, Jermaine Blackwood just about keeps it out off the back foot. 188/2
  • 58.5Great awareness to pinch the single there. Back of a length and around middle, Brathwaite hops and pushes it out towards silly mid on. The fielder is a bit back and they are able to scamper through for one.
  • 58.4Hazlewood just keeps on probing away on a good length and angles it in from around off. Brathwaite defends it out.
  • 58.3Good length again and shaping into middle, this time Brathwaite is able to block it away.
  • 58.2Lovely delivery! On a good length and around off, this one nips back in a long way off the deck and almost cuts the batter in half.

  • 54.3Good length, just angling down leg. Jermaine Blackwood looks to flick but misses and the ball seems to have flicked the pads on its way to the keeper. • Welcome back for the final session of Day 4! The Australian players have made their way out to the middle. Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the two Windies openers are also ready to resume their innings now. Both of them look pretty determined and let's see how they go about their business in this evening session. Mitchell Starc to start the proceedings with the ball. Here we go...
  • … DAY 4, SESSION 3 …
  • West Indies will be delighted with that session but will be aware of the fact that it was only one-fifth of what's left to come. The openers, Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul have laid a solid foundation on which they can build on and take the game deep into the final day. Their main focus at the moment will be to end Day 4 without losing more than a wicket or else the Aussies will have a chance of ripping through that shaky middle-order. Which side will be able to get on top of the proceedings in the final session? Find out soon as an exciting evening session awaits.
  • Australia were pretty good with the bat with Marnus Labuschagne leading the way and notching up his ninth century in Test cricket which gave them a substantial lead of 497 runs. They came out to bowl with 154 overs left to take all the Windies' wickets but they have failed to pick up a single one so far. Pat Cummins not being able to take the field has certainly made a difference but overall they haven't been able to create enough wicket-taking opportunities which they would like to rectify when they take the field again.
  • Session Summary - 30 overs, 84 runs and no wickets. Well then, not what Australia expected when they decided to declare during the lunch interval. The West Indies openers have proved their mettle here and are taking full advantage of the Aussie skipper not being on the field. This game has gotten a lot more exciting now as both sides will look to have a productive final session on Day 4.
