  • This was the perfect start Pakistan could have asked for after their defeat in the Test series. It was a clinical performance from them and they will be pleased with it. South Africa may have lost, but there certainly are positives to take for them from this game, along with the lessons. The next game takes place on Tuesday, in Durban, at 1300 local (1100 GMT). Do join in for that. Cheers!
  • Pakistan skipper, Sarfraz Ahmed, says the credit goes to the bowlers first. Also applauds Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam for the way they played. Reckons that they won the game in the middle when the spinners kept it tight and never let the opposition get away with the game. On his captaincy, he says he's always been an animated character and that's how he'll always be.
  • Man of the Match, Mohammad Hafeez, says it was a great team effort as they first restricted South Africa to a decent score and then chased it down. Mentions that if you win the first game of the series, it always provides good momentum. States that they were always confident after restricting South Africa to 266 and after the start the openers gave, the task became much easier.
  • South Africa skipper, Faf du Plessis, says they were 10-15 runs short and rues the fact that they couldn't capitalize on the foundation laid by Hashim Amla and Rassie van der Dussen. Credits Pakistan for pacing the chase well and admits there are lessons to take from this game. On Hashim Amla, he says he's found some form since the Test series and also applauds Rassie van der Dussen for the way he played. Adds that these are positive signs, especially with the upcoming World Cup in mind. Continues saying that they needed to adapt to the conditions better, like Pakistan did, particularly in the middle overs, and that is something they should learn from.
  • South Africa, after posting a below par total on the board, couldn't get the early wickets they needed. And couldn't stem the flow of runs in the middle overs either. The Pakistan top order put its side in a comfortable position, which in turn helped the experience in the middle order to take the visitors home. A few wickets did fall in quick succession towards the end, but the game was more or less over by then. Earlier in the day, South Africa made their way to 266 on the back of a Amla hundred and a van der Dussen 93, but despite that, they couldn't post a score which would be enough.
  • Despite it going to the last over, it was a commanding win for the Men in Green. The task wasn't that difficult to begin with, but the Pakistan top order made that job that much easier. The openers added 45, and after Zaman's departure, Imam (who missed out on a ton) carried the torch forward. He made two superb partnerships with Azam and Hafeez worth 94 and 46 respectively, which more or less sealed the deal. Hafeez then came in, used his experience, shouldered the responsibility well and saw his side home, remaining unbeaten on 71.
  • 49.1And there's the game! PAKISTAN WIN BY 5 WICKETS! Comfortably done too in the end. Shadab Khan digs this yorker out towards mid on and sets off. Takes the fielder on and wins that contest. Smiles and handshakes all around in the Pakistan camp, deservedly so too.
  • 48.6FOUR! The scores are level now. Hafeez makes Olivier pay for bowling short so consistently. Just stands tall and pulls this aerially through mid-wicket for a boundary. 266/5

  • 46.4Works it away on the leg side. No run taken.
  • 46.3FOUR! Premeditated that and got the result. Full and down leg, Hafeez gets forward and across, a little low too and sweeps it fine down the leg side, beating the diving keeper to the fence.

  • 46.1Width offered outside off as Olivier pitches it on a length, guided to third man for one run.

  • 43.5Short of a good length close to off, Hafeez blocks it by going on the back foot.
  • 43.4On a good length and outside off, Hafeez looks to cut this late down to third man but fails to make connection.

  • 42.4Quicker through the air, on middle stump, kept out from inside the crease.

  • Shadab Khan to bat now.
  • 42.2OUT! Another Pakistan wicket down in quick succession. Brilliant from Imran Tahir. He bowls it on leg and it's the leg break. Spins ever so much and beats the closed face of the bat as Sarfraz tries to flick. He's caught on the back pad and an appeal goes up, which is followed by the finger. The DRS is signalled by Ahmed and replays don't help him at all. He's gone for all money. Pakistan lose their review as well.
  • Review time. Huge moment. Skipper Sarfraz has been caught leg before and been given out. He's taken the DRS quickly. This looks close. Let's see what happens.
  • 42.1Full and straight, driven straight back to the bowler.
  • 41.6FOUR! Superb. Poor ball, good shot. Too full and quite straight in line, Hafeez close the face and flicks it past the mid-wicket fielder for a boundary. 223/4

  • 41.4Back of a length on off, blocked out from the back foot.
  • 41.3The Pakistan skipper is off the mark immediately. Length delivery around off, Sarfraz opens the bat face and guides it to third man for a single.
  • Sarfraz Ahmed walks out to the middle next.
  • 41.2OUT! Maybe, just maybe, there is something left in this game. Everyone knows what a big player Shoaib Malik is in such situations, his calm and experience usually see Pakistan home. But this... this could just provide the hosts some hope needed to push on from here. Length delivery on off, Malik looks to run it down to third man but gets an inside edge and the ball disturbs the furniture behind. 49 needed off 52.

  • 39.1Fuller length delivery on the stumps, Hafeez defends it down on the leg side.
  • Dwaine Pretorius returns to the attack.

  • 36.4Another short ball, pulled away into the leg side for a single.
  • 36.3Back of a length delivery, Hafeez looks to play at it but misses.
  • 36.2Too straight in line, nudged fine down the leg side for two.
  • Shoaib Malik to bat next.
  • 36.1OUT! Olivier with the big break. This is a massive breakthrough and could be the turning point in the game. Imam with a rather rash shot at a crucial juncture. Fuller length ball around off, the opener charges out and looks to go big, but it goes off the outer half and flies over covers. Hendricks in the deep runs in and dives forward to take an excellent catch. Imam misses out on what would have been a well-deserved ton.

  • 35.5Dropped! That was the moment South Africa needed. A bit difficult, but you'd expect him to take it. Looped up delivery on off, Imam punches it back on the up. Tahir goes to his left and sticks his hands out, but can't keep a hold of it.
