  • So, that's all from another rain-hit encounter where a no result has been the final conclusion. We have got two more games in this T20I series and the next game will be played on Sunday, 30th August 2020 on this same venue. The action will begin at 1415 local (1315 GMT). Join us for that game. Goodbye for now! Take care!
  • Right! Another win for rain! Twice in the Tests and now a T20I already in their kitty! We started on time and Banton put a fine show with the bat, in spite of others around him struggled. The Pakistani bowlers started well and got some beating in the middle overs only to make a comeback to put England on the back foot before rain intervened. Imad and Shadab were pick of the bowlers for them.
  • UPDATE 2102 local (2002 GMT) - I return but with bad news! THE GAME HAS BEEN ABANDONED! The rain had passed by but not before doing the damage! The umpires probably felt the ground would not be ready till the cut off time and hence, they have called it off. Sad because this could have really been a good game. Nevertheless, the safety of the players is always important.
  • UPDATE 2042 local (1942 GMT) - Well, we have good news! The rain has stopped completely. And the covers have been removed.
  • UPDATE 2030 local (1930 GMT) - No respite from rain for now! For a 5-over shooter, the game has to start by 2119 local, and then Pakistan will have to score 56 to win the game. But let's hope we get much more than just a 5-over run chase. Fingers crossed!
  • 131/6 was the score when rain arrived to force the players back. With its entry, we will have a revised total for Pakistan using the DLS method. However, for us to get any action, the rain first needs to stop and for now, it is on its aggressive best. Stay tuned for the updates.
  • Pakistan started brilliantly with Imad Wasim striking in the very first over. They kept things tight till the Powerplay and didn't allow England to take off. However, post that the bowlers got pummeled by Banton. However, once Shadab got rid of him, the bowlers once again put the pressure back on Pakistan with spinners doing their magic. Imad and Shadab got 2 while Iftikhar Ahmed too managed to get one.
  • England were asked to bat after the toss went Pakistan's way. A slow start and then a superb counter-attack from Banton. He added 71 with Dawid Malan and scored most of the runs during the stand. He took the liking against Shadab and Rauf and scored briskly against the two, eventually falling to the former for a 42-ball 71 with the help of 5 sixes. However, once he fell, England crumbled as they lost 3 more for just 5 runs. Rain arrived to cut the English innings short.
  • It continues to rain and the umpires have decided to put a full stop to England's innings. We have started losing overs already. Let's see what the revised target will be. In the meantime, let's go through how things panned out when we got the action.
  • UPDATE 2010 local (1910 GMT) - We have started losing overs and have probably lost a few already. And, it continues to drizzle. Not heavy but enough to keep us all waiting. So, the wait continues.
  • UPDATE 1945 local (1845 GMT) - Right! We will start losing overs soon. Don't think we will see England returning with the bat again. So, DLS will be in action and Pakistan will have a revised target. And, by the way, it is bucketing down at Old Trafford.
  • UPDATE 1926 local (1826 GMT) - Well, the rain has got heavier as the groundstaff have decided to protect the square on both the sides as well.
  • Well, enough is enough says the umpire! They are off, it is a little too hard now. Only the hover cover is on for now so it is probably just a passing shower.
  • 16.2NOT OUT AND WIDE! No bat involved. Another ball down the leg side from Amir. Jordan once again misses his flick. Rizwan collects the ball behind. They all appeal but the umpire has wided it already. Rizwan tells that he did hear something. So, Babar takes it upstairs at the last moment. Ultra Edge rolls in and it shows there is no bat. Pakistan, done and dusted with two of their reviews.
  • An appeal for a caught behind has been turned down. It has been taken upstairs.
  • 16.1FOUR LEG BYES! Useful boundary! The line is not right from Amir. It is on the pads of Jordan. He looks to work it on the leg side but misses. However, the ball clips his thigh pad and rolls to the fine leg fence.
  • Mohammad Amir is back on. It is raining out there but the umpires do not feel the rush to go off. Maybe they feel it is just a passing shower.
  • 15.6Another single to end one more successful over from Wasim. A good spell by him comes to an end. 4-0-31-2 for him. His last ball is flicked with the angle towards mid-wicket for one. 126/6
  • 15.5Once again into the pads, Billings works it through mid-wicket and takes one.
  • 15.4Angled into the pads, this is worked through square leg for one.
  • Chris Jordan is the next batsman in.
  • 15.3OUT! STUMPED! Another one bites the dust! Another excellent piece of glove work by Rizwan. Pakistan are right on top now. Gregory fails to make an impact. He steps out. Imad fires it outside off. Lewis is a touch late in getting his bat down. He misses and Rizwan whips the bails off in a flash. 160 now seems far away. They are into the bowling all-rounders.
  • 15.2Good fielding! Angled into the pads, this is worked through mid-wicket. The fielder in the deep gets to the ball quickly and keeps it to one.
  • 15.1Good fielding! This is shorter and around off, it is guided towards point. The fielder there dives to his left and keeps it down to one.
  • Imad Wasim to bowl out. 3-0-26-1 are his figures so far.
  • 14.6Fires it full and around off, pushed towards point for nothing. 3 runs and a wicket from the over. 121/5
  • 14.5Quicker one around middle, worked towards mid-wicket by Gregory for a single.
  • Lewis Gregory is the new batsman in.
  • 14.4OUT! CAUGHT! What a catch from Rizwan! This man has been doing all the hard work behind the wickets on this tour. Did that in the Tests and has done it once again. Terrific from him. Flatter ball just outside off, Moeen looks to run it down to third man for a single. However, the ball takes the outside edge and goes behind. Rizwan there fails to gobble it in the first attempt as the ball hits his palm and pops out in front. He though keeps his eyes on the ball and lunges forward to take it in the second attempt. Second wicket for Shadab who punches the air in celebration. England crumbling here. They have lost 3 quickly.
  • 14.3Full and outside off, Billings strokes it to long off for a single.
  • 14.2Flatter and around off, Billings finds the cover fielder.
  • 14.1Full and outside off, pushed towards the off side for a single.
  • Sam Billings is the next batsman in.
  • 13.6OUT! LBW! That looked plumb! Excellent bowling from Iftikhar. Quicker fuller one on middle, Morgan goes for the slog sweep but is early in the shot. He misses to connect and is trapped right in front of the stumps. They all go up in appeal and the umpire agrees as he raises the finger. The England skipper knows that he is plumb and hence he doesn't take the review. Shake of the head as he trudges back to the pavilion. 118/4
  • 13.5Full and around middle, Ali pushes it for a run through mid on.
  • 13.4Tossed up ball around off, Morgan strokes it to long off for a single.
  • 13.3Shortish and around middle, pulled to deep mid-wicket for a run.
  • 13.2Flatter and around off, Moeen finds the mid off fielder.
  • 13.1FOUR! DRILLED! Full and around off, Moeen dances down the track and creams it through extra cover. No chance for the long off fielder.
  • Iftikhar Ahmed is into the attack.
  • 12.6Single to end! Full and just outside off, Moeen drives it to deep cover for a single. 4 runs and the big wicket of Banton from the over. 111/3
  • 12.5Short and outside off once again, this one is punched towards point for a single.
  • 12.4Wide outside off, Morgan mistimes it towards the off side.
  • Moeen Ali is the new man in.
  • 12.3OUT! CAUGHT! Top edge and a simple catch for Imad. A top knock from Banton comes to an end. Shadab bowls it around off, the ball once again turns away a touch as Banton tries to smoke it. He ends up getting a top edge and the ball balloons towards mid off. Imad there settles under the ball and takes a simple chance. Banton has given the momentum after a slow start to this English innings.
  • 12.2Full and outside off, Morgan sweeps it towards deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 12.1Flatter and around off, turns away nicely. Banton manages to punch it to long off for a run.
  • Shadab Khan is back on. 2-0-26-0 are his figures so far.
  • 11.6Dot to end! 13 from the over! Fuller and around off, Morgan plays it towards the point fielder and shouts no for the run. 107/2
  • 11.5Slower yorker on middle, pushed towards mid on for a single.
  • 11.4Good length ball around off, Banton looks to run it down to third man but ends up getting an inside edge. The ball bounces very close to the stumps there and goes to the keeper.
  • 11.3SIX! WOW! That's gone all the way! This is some batting from Banton! Full and outside off, Banton once again moves inside and scoops it over the keeper's head. This time it goes all the way. Used the pace of the bowler to bag half a dozen.
  • 11.2Whips this good length ball on middle, wide of the long on fielder for a couple of runs to bring 100 up.
  • 11.1FOUR! Innovative! Runs coming thick and fast for England. Full and outside off, Banton moves inside the crease and scoops it over short fine leg. A few bounces and into the fence.
  • Haris Rauf is back on.
  • 10.6A single to end! England on the charge here! Banton steps out and hits it flat and on the bounce to long on for one. 94/2
  • 10.5SIX! It is raining sixes at the moment! Banton this time uses his feet, gets to the pitch of the ball and lofts it well over the mid-wicket fence.
  • 10.4Now does the right thing by pushing it down to long on for one.
  • 10.3SIX! A reverse sweep to fetch a boundary in the last over and now a slog sweep right in the gap! Morgan has come out all guns blazing here. He drags it from outside off between deep square leg and deep mid-wicket. It just about clears the fence.
  • 10.2Nice and slow, tossed up outside off. Morgan eases it to covers.
  • 10.1Fifty for Banton! England's bright young star shinning tonight. He started off slowly but is now getting into his own. He gets there by slapping this through covers for one. He would want to keep going here.
  • Imad Wasim is back on. 2-0-11-1 are his figures so far.
  • 9.6FOUR! That is some way to begin your innings! Straightaway brings the reverse sweep out. He hits it over point and bags a boundary. A huge over for England. They did lose a wicket but still got 17 from it. 79/2
  • 9.5A single now as this is eased through covers. Banton moves onto 49.
  • 9.4Tossed up nicely on off, Banton guides it to point. This time he wants a run but is sent back.
  • Eoin Morgan, the skipper, is the next batsman in.
  • 9.3OUT! RUN OUT! A complete mix-up and Malan is out of here! Last thing England would have needed at the moment. It was all going their way in the last few overs and a confusion has brought about a wicket which Pakistan dearly needed. Shadab fires this wide and outside off. Banton guides it towards point. Malan wants a run but there was never one in it. Banton does not respond. Malan is at the point of no return. Hafeez lobs the ball back to the bowler who whips the bails off. A timely wicket one can say.
  • 9.2SIX! Two in two and the momentum is now probably shifting! This is right off the middle. It is tossed up outside off, Banton goes down on one knee and drags it over the deep mid-wicket fence.
  • 9.1SIX! 10 runs from the last two balls! That is a strong shot. Big boundaries but Banton still managed to clear it. He shuffles across, it is fired wide outside off. Banton drags it well over the wide long on fence for a biggie.
  • 8.6FOUR! That is exquisite! Another very good over for England! They are starting to get a move on. This though is the shot of the game so far. A slower one, fuller on off. Malan waits for it and then creams it through extra cover. No chance of stopping that. 62/1
  • 8.5A yorker now on off, Banton jams it out on the off side for one.
  • 8.4FOUR! Innovative! Banton really plays this shot well. He brings out the scoop. It is a slower one by Rauf on middle. Banton watches it closely and plays it over the left of the keeper for a boundary. Runs starting to come now for England.
  • 8.3On the pads, this is worked down towards deep square leg for one.
  • 8.2Very full, it is the slower one on middle, worked through mid-wicket for one.
  • 8.1Two! Good running! A full toss on middle, Banton works it through square leg and takes two. Good running. 50 up for England. It has taken them more time than they would have wanted it to but they have lost just the one wicket.
  • 7.6A single to end so an excellent comeback from Shadab after going for a maximum on the first ball. The last ball is once again shorter and outside off, it is slapped through covers for one. 49/1
  • 7.5Well bowled and well played in the end! Sees the batter dancing down the track and shortens his length. He also bowls it wide outside off. Banton slaps it towards the man at covers.
  • 7.4Shorter in length and on off, it is slapped through covers for one.
  • 7.3Malan looks to play the reverse sweep but this is slower through the air. It lands outside off and then turns back in. Malan misses the shot and gets hit high on the pads.
  • 7.2Quicker and shorter outside off, it is slapped through covers for one.
  • 7.1SIX! Whack! Banton does not let the leg spinner settle. Welcomes him with a biggie. Massive biggie. Shadab tosses it up outside off, Banton goes down on one knee and slog sweeps it over the mid-wicket fence. A good start to the over, England would want to make it count.
  • Shadab Khan is on.
  • 6.6Quick run! Shortish ball around off, Banton looks to cut but gets an inside edge on the pads. The ball rolls towards the off side and they go for the single as Rauf hares to get to the ball. Easily done in the end. Fine first over from Haris. 40/1
  • 6.5Full and on middle, Banton finds mid-wicket.
  • 6.4Full and around off, Malan looks to drive through the off side but the ball takes the inner half and goes to long on. A single taken.
  • 6.3Short and on middle, pulled to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 6.2NOT OUT! Clear bat! Pakistan lose a review! But a terrific ball from Rauf. Very full and on the pads, Malan fails to flick and is struck on the pads. They all go up in appeal but not out says the umpire. In the meanwhile, the batters go for a leg bye as the ball rolls towards the off side. Rizwan is confident and he convinces skipper to review. However, the replays will not please the skipper as there is bat involved. That looked to be going down leg as well but Ultra Edge's confirmation about the inside edge means we don't need to check that.
  • A huge shout for an LBW but it has been turned down! Pakistan review as Rizwan feels it is quite close. It seems to have pitched outside leg. Malan is the man in question. Actually, there is an inside edge so that's that.
  • Rauf is an exciting prospect! He bowls at a good pace. Interesting to see how he bowls here.
  • 6.1Shortish and outside off, Banton punches it to deep cover for a single.
  • 6.1Haris starts with a ball down the leg side. Banton fails to get any bat as he tries to flick. Wided by the umpire.
  • Haris Rauf is into the attack.
  • 5.6Just one to finish the over! 9 from it. A better over for England but Pakistan have them in check after the end of the first 6. It is on middle, Banton swings it through mid-wicket. This time there is a fielder in the deep so just one. Pakistan are 34 for 1. 34/1
  • 5.5FOUR! In the air... but just wide! Finally a boundary for England. They needed one. It is fuller and around middle, Banton whips it uppishly but wide of mid-wicket and it races into the fence. One more ball to go before the end of the Powerplay, can England make use of it?
  • 5.4Another single! Shorter and outside off, it is guided down to third man for one.
  • 5.3Easy two! Another slower one, it is angled into the body, Malan manages to work it behind square on the leg side for a couple. Boundaries hard to come by.
  • 5.2A short one, not sure if it was the slower short one or the normal one. Malan though is caught by surprise and he lets it be.
  • 5.1Banton takes a few strides down the track, Amir bowls a slower one. Banton only manages to work it through square leg for one.
  • 4.6Terrific! Nothing you can do about such deliveries. It is a yorker on middle, Banton squeezes it towards mid on for one. So despite going for a boundary, just 6 from the over. Pakistan keeping things under check. 25/1
  • 4.5Once again way too full and angled into the pads, difficult for Malan to get under it. He jams it out to mid on for one.
  • 4.4Lovely! Just lovely from Afridi! Changes his pace, bowls a slower one outside off, Malan is way too early in the slog. He misses.
  • 4.3Straight onto the stumps at the other end! Very full and on middle, Malan strokes it back towards the left of the bowler. It misses the outstretched hand and hits the stumps at the other end.
  • 4.2FOUR! Welcome boundary! England will hope this gets Malan going! It is shorter and angled into the body, Malan swivels and hits it through backward square leg. No one there.
  • 4.1Very full and on middle, it is driven to mid off.
  • Change of ends for Shaheen Afridi. Gave 4 in his first over! Could've had a wicket to his name but Iftikhar put down a simple chance. Can he get one in this over?
  • 3.6In the air... short! Angled into the pads, Malan looks to flick, does so uppishly but well short of deep square leg. One run. Tidy beginning by Amir too. 19/1
  • 3.5BEATEN! One more dot! Malan makes room but Amir sticks to bowling it just outside off. Malan looks to cut but not enough room to play that shot. Beaten.
  • 3.4Easy two! This is angled into the pads, Malan works it through mid-wicket and takes two.
  • 3.3Extra bounce! Sees Malan take a few steps down the track, Amir bangs it shorter. It takes off, Malan adjusts and pushes it to mid on.
  • 3.2A slower one now on middle, Banton waits for it and then guides it down to third man for one.
  • 3.1Banton may have missed out there! It is width on offer outside off, Banton goes after it but hits it a little too close to the cover fielder.
  • Mohammad Amir is on.
  • 2.6A couple to end the over! Floated around middle, Malan tucks it towards deep mid-wicket. The fielder fumbles there and that allows the batters to scamper back for the second. 15/1
  • 2.5Flatter and around off, Banton skips down the track and almost yorks himself. Manages to force it to long off for a single.
  • 2.4On middle, this time Malan reverse sweeps it towards short third man for a single.
  • 2.3Tossed up ball around middle, Banton goes for the sweep. He doesn't time it well and ends up getting a top edge. The ball goes over the short fine leg fielder. The deep square leg fielder gives it a chase and keeps them down to three.
  • 2.2Another quicker one and shortish too, Malan strokes it through mid on for a single to get off the mark.
  • 2.1Quicker one on middle, Malan finds the mid-wicket fielder.
  • 1.6EDGED BUT DROPPED! A frustrating roar by Afridi and rightly so! That should have been taken. It was a dolly. Length and around off, Banton pushes at it away from his body. It flies off the outside edge towards the first slip, Iftikhar, who gets two hands to it but spills it. This could have been another wicket-taking over. Still a good start from Afridi. 7/1
  • 1.5FOUR! First boundary! Poor line by Afridi! It is on the pads, Banton says thank you very much as he works it fine on the leg side and bags a boundary.
  • 1.4BEATEN! Shorter and outside off, Banton slashes but it is a little too close to play that shot. He gets beaten.
  • 1.3Sharp! It is short and on middle, Banton does well to move out of the way. A good surprise bumper. Afridi is mixing it up nicely.
  • 1.2That is a beauty! Got the last one to come back in. Gets this one to slant across from off. It is on a length. Banton looks to play it late but is beaten.
  • 1.1Some swing for Afirid! It is full and tailing back in. Banton works it to mid-wicket.
  • Shaheen Afridi to bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6A dot to end a successful first over by Wasim. Shorter and on off, it is pushed towards covers. 3/1
  • Dawid Malan is the new batsman in.
  • 0.5OUT! TAKEN! How casual was that from Wasim! Trust me, that was hit hard back towards him and in such cold conditions, it surely must have stung but he showed no reaction. A super catch to get rid of the dangerous Bairstow and Pakistan strike early, just the start they would have wanted after electing to bowl. Jonny makes room to go over the off side. Wasim does well to bowl it closer to the body and it is quite full, a little too close to the batter to get underneath the delivery. Bairstow still manages to hit it powerfully but uppishly towards Wasim who is in a good position and he takes it. A low score for Bairstow and the Pakistan players are elated.
  • 0.4Quicker again and on middle, Bairstow pushes it back to the bowler.
  • 0.3Excellent running and Bairstow is off the mark! This is angled into the pads, Bairstow works it through square leg with soft hands. He takes one, Bairstow wants a second but Banton hesitates and goes for it eventually. The throw is to the keeper who whips the bails off but Bairstow is in.
  • 0.2Soft leading edge! This is angled into the pads, Bairstow looks to flick but closes the face of the bat early. He gets a leading edge back to the bowler.
  • 0.1England are underway! A delivery angled into the pads, it is worked towards mid-wicket for one.
  • Right! All set for the action! The two umpires stride out to take things underway! The Pakistani players follow them. The two England openers, Jonny Bairstow and Tom Banton walk out to open the innings. Spin to start as Imad Wasim is ready with ball. Here we go...
  • Eoin Morgan, the England skipper, says he wanted to bowl first too, the wicket has been under cover so bowling first is an advantage. Mentions they do want to win the series but they want to test the youngsters they have in their side. States Joe Denly misses out. Ends by saying he is really happy heading into the series and he is hoping to contribute and lead from the front.
  • Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam, says that the condition looks suitable for the bowlers. On the team preparations, Azam tells that they have done good preparation and the team is very confident. On him being the top-ranked player in the shortest format, Babar feels it is difficult to shift from Tests to the shortest format of the game but believes it's all about mindset and is ready to do well.
  • Pakistan (Playing XI) - Babar Azam (C), Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi.
  • England (Playing XI) - Tom Banton, Jonny Bairstow (WK), Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan (C), Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, Tom Curran, Lewis Gregory, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood.
  • TOSS - Pakistan win the toss and elect to field.
  • We are done with the Tests! It is time for some T20 action! Welcome all to the coverage of the first T20I between England and Pakistan. The hosts will have a different set of players for this leg in this unprecedented time. For Pakistan, they have a blend of youngsters as well as experience. This is a 3-match series and both sides will be eager to begin on a winning note. Rain! Well, we did hear a lot about it in the entire Test series and it wants its presence to be felt in the shortest format as well. For now though things are looking fine. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.
