  • Wow! What a game we've had! As much as we, the enthusiasts and fans enjoyed, my fingers did, too. The end of the two-week journey culminates in some memories and the satisfaction of having watched a nail-biting thriller. We hope that you guys had as much as fun as we had in bringing the series to you. Thanks for being lovely readers. Meanwhile, the coming week holds some Test cricket, apart from the World Cup Qualifiers in progress. Do tune in to catch those actions as well. Till the next time, signing off! Ta-ta, buhbye! Take care, amigos!
  • Rohit Sharma goes on to collect the trophy and the entire team joins him for the photo-ops. They'll, for once, know that this is a hard earned and hence, a well-deserved one. Of course, it wasn't safe to assume a winner till the last delivery of the game. This is what T20s were supposed to do - thrill to no ends. This game was worthy of being called a final.
  • The winning Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, says this to be a brilliant game with respect to the atmosphere as well as the crowd. Thanks the Sri Lankan cricket board as well as all the stakeholders for organizing such a series. Winning the series is a top positive for them, he says. Speaks about this exposure to the youngsters and says that they used the opportunities that came their way. This tourney should be confidence-boosting for the entire young bunch, according to him. States that his job was just reminding his boys about executing whatever they planned in the meetings, which isn't too tough. Mentions that the batsmen stepped up when the occassions so demanded. He lavishes praise on Dinesh Karthik as he knows it isn't easy to play the way the keeper did when the opportunities aren't regular. Further adds that he always had the belief on Karthik as the he had the experience with him. Ends iterating that his unit was considering this to be a par score and were confident of chasing this down.
  • WASHINGTON SUNDAR is chosen to be the MAN OF THE SERIES. The youngster had a terrific series with the ball, picking up 8 wickets. He says that this means a lot for him at such age. Thanks his family and dedicates the award to them. States that he is ready to face any challenge as any international cricketer should be. Gives an insight about him reading the batter's mind and bowling accordingly. Reveals about wanting to be in the middle when they win, before crediting Dinesh Karthik for his exemplary knock.
  • Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh captain, says that you can't ask more than this in a final. Rightly, he credits Dinesh Karthik for his innings. He reckons that he had to bowl Mustafizur Rahman in the 19th over as he was their best bowler. Has some consoling words for Soumya Sarkar and says that the bowler didn't bowl wrong lengths entirely. It was Karthik's brilliance that took the game away. Concedes feeling positive at the halfway mark but it just wasn't their day then. Admits to taking a lot of positives from a game like this and walking away with a lot of lessons.
  • DINESH KARTHIK is the MAN OF THE MATCH. It can't be anyone else, says Russel Arnold on air. Couldn't agree more. The Indian wicket-keeper is delighted to have won the game and credits the youngsters and the team for the same. States that it wasn't entirely easy to bat. Adds that his aim was just to go for boundaries and he is glad that it came off well. On having to wait for his opportunity, he iterates that in a side where it is tough to get a spot, it is important to make opportunities count.
  • Then walked in Karthik and he was suddenly dished out an altogether different track and bowlers. Well, it so seemed. He teed off from the word go and did the then unthinkable. What was turning out to be a joyful phase for Bangladesh - players and fans alike - soon turned out to be a regretful one for them. Sarkar was and still is inconsolable and he would be desperately searching for a hiding place. As he does so, let's look forward to the presentation.
  • Then came the phase, where the likes of Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar, sent ahead of Karthik, struggled, courtesy, some smart bowling from Bangladesh. Cashing in on the opportunity, Shakib Al Hasan slipped in some quiet overs and so did Mustafizur Rahman, who bowled a wicket-maiden then. At that point, Vijay Shankar was left searching for a place to hide, as he could well have turned out to the man at whom fingers would have been pointed, had India lost.
  • Coming to the summary of the innings, Rohit Sharma gave the Indians the right start with the bat. You talk about intent and he showed it as soon as the second over. He dealt the spinners with disdain, making merry on his way to a fifty. He found good support for a brief while in KL Rahul. But both of them departed fairly in quick succession to turn the game in the opposition's favour.
  • Shardul Thakur is next in line. He says that he was praying for Karthik to finish as he was slated to come in next. Opines the Karthik was batting well in the entire series. States him being confident with the knuckle ball as he has a lot of practice about that.
  • Next is Yuzvendra Chahal. He says that he varied his pace with the batters looking to attack. Adds that he always looks to use his variations as well. Reckons that he is used to bowling in pressure situations. Ends saying that he doesn't have any nails left now.
  • Just to know the feeling of the Indian players and their reactions to the adrenaline-filled game, some of them are caught on the sidelines by Russel Arnold. First up is Manish Pandey. He says that he is very happy and is full of excitment. He feels that when he got out, somebody had to make the runs and Karthik did it. He reckons that Bangladesh bowled well in the middle overs and brought it tight.
  • What a game! What an innings it was from Dinesh Karthik. India looked down and out till the moment he walked in and boy, has he played an innings of a lifetime or what. But spare a thought for Soumya Sarkar. He is inconsolable and down on his knee there. The entire Bangladesh unit goes to him to lift him up. Poor lad. Wonder if he was ever prepared to bowl the last over in a limited-overs game.
  • 19.6SIX! UNBELIEVABLE STROKE, UNBELIEVABLE RESULT! INDIA WIN! This is bowled full outside off, Karthik moves a bit to the off side and smashes it over extra covers. Has made a meaty enough contact for the ball to sail all the way over the fence to send the crowd in a frenzy!
  • Washington Sundar is the next man in. He will be at the non-striker's end. 5 needed off the last ball. Super over anyone?
  • 19.5OUT! Shankar's forgettable first innings in international cricket comes to an end! Gets a full delivery on the stumps, he looks to go for the glory shot over the bowler's head. Perhaps that's the only option he felt he had. Ends up hitting it high in the air. Long on runs to his left and gets a hand to that. But the ball slips out of his hand and Hasan, who came there running to his right from long off, takes it. Excellent tag-team effort that.
  • 19.4FOUR! This is the result what Bangladesh didn't want. It is hurled outside off, Shankar slices it past short third man for a boundary.
  • The experienced Shakib has something to say to his bowler. After some talk, Sarkar goes to his mark. This ball will make or break Shankar's career, feel everybody here.
  • 19.3Very full outside off, squeezed through covers for one.
  • 19.2In India, everybody is a cricket expert, is not an understatement. Shankar pushes this straight to covers and sets off for a single. There was a throw to the bowler, who fails to collect that cleanly. The ball rolls away and Karthik wants another run. More than Shankar saying no, the people around here are screaming Karthik to take strike.
  • 19.1Swing and a miss, AGAIN! Full and outside off, Shankar has a wild go at that but misses.
  • 19.1WIDE! Sarkar slips this down the leg side, Shankar misses the flick and comes down in search of a bye. Rahim has a shy at the stumps but misses. No extra run taken though.
  • Soumya Sarkar to bowl the final over. Can he defend 12? Super over on the cards?
  • 18.6FOUR! Another one, 22 have come off this over! Initially, Karthik's movement was away from the stumps, before he moves across them. Rubel slips in a full one on off. Dinesh has enough to ramp it well over short fine leg for another boundary. Is his middle name 'Nonchalant'? 155/5
  • 18.5Excellent running. That's the best piece of job that Shankar has done, exclaim my mates here. DK smashes it towards long off and succeeds in taking a couple, beating the throw from the deep.
  • 18.4All that mini-conference in the middle seems to have done something for Rubel. Gets in a dot ball here. Lands it on a length outside off, slower in pace, Karthik fails to cut it away. Rahim again collects it and puts in an appeal. The only one doing so on the planet, let alone in Colombo!
  • 18.3SIX! Karthik - 16 off 3, Shankar at the other end - 12 off 15! What was the Indian wicketkeeper doing in the dressing room all this while? Batting or what! This is full on the pads, Dinesh just blasts it over square leg for another maximum. 18 needed off 8 now.
  • 18.2FOUR! 10 off the first two deliveries already! This is on a length around off, Karthik makes some room and hits it wide of long on and earns himself a boundary.
  • 18.1SIX! DINESH KARTHIK, YOU BEAUTY! He has walked out with all the confidence in the world. Gets a full ball in the slot, he tonks it well over long on for half a dozen. What a way to get going!
  • Rubel Hossain to bowl the penultimate over.
  • Finally, Dinesh Karthik makes his way out. Does he have it in him to take India home? Or is it too late?
  • 17.6OUT! The pressure has brought a wicket here. Bangladesh rejoice as if they have already won it. To be honest, they don't seem to be far off. Another slower delivery on the stumps, Pandey clears his front leg to go downtown. Finds Sabbir at long on to perfection. He catches and goes up in celebration. A wicket-maiden, 34 needed off the last two overs. 133/5
  • 17.5Finally he crosses! Moves across the stumps and misses the flick. The ball strikes his thigh pad and falls to the on side. A leg bye taken.
  • 17.4Misses again 4 in the over, 5 on the trot for India. Another length ball slanting away, Shankar can do nothing but have a go without much success.
  • Three dots. Pressure on the young Vijay Shankar. What'll he do now?
  • 17.3Again has a wild go at this one and misses.
  • 17.2Action replay! Shankar looks to play it over the off side but fails to make contact with the ball.
  • 17.1Length ball angling away, Shankar misses to get bat onto that.
  • 16.6PANDEY'S DIVE SAVES HIM! He digs this yorker back to the bowler and wanders out of the crease aimlessly. Soumya hits down the stumps at the striker's end. In this while, Pandey turns and plonks his bat in. The Bangladeshi players celebrate as the decision is taken upstairs. It is seen that the new rule has come to Manish's aid. As he plonked his bat in, the bat bounces then and the ball hits the stumps. But since Pandey had already ground his bat, he remains not out. 132/4
  • Sarkar, you beauty! If he succeeds in running Pandey out this time, he deserves everybody's salutes. The third umpire has to intervene again.
  • 16.5CLOSE SHAVE! Shankar digs out this yorker to the on side and sets off for a run. Sarkar goes after it to his right. The general thought is that he will collect the ball, turn and then release the ball. But no, he returns a backhand throw aiming at the stumps at his end. Misses and a run results.
  • 16.4FOUR! Gap found! Slower delivery from a slow-paced bowler. Shankar gets his left leg out of the way and slogs it towards deep mid-wicket. Finds the gap between the fielder there and long on. 36 more needed for India.
  • 16.3Full on the stumps, blasted down to long on for a single.
  • 16.2SAFE! Full on off, squeezed through point. Seeing the fielder in the deep have to run to his left, the batters decide to take two. The throw is made to the keeper, who disturbs the stumps, even as Manish stretches to make it in. TV umpire has to be involved now. The decision is ruled in his favour after having another look.
  • Is Pandey short of his crease here? His body language doesn't look too positive. Taken upstairs.
  • 16.1Full on off, lofted to long off for a single. Shankar really needs to get into the groove and tonk it early.
  • 15.6A swing and a miss! Pandey fails to put bat to this delivery angled away from him. Rahim collects it and appeals for nothing. 44 needed off 4 overs. 123/4
  • 15.5FOUR! Wonderful to see such strokes played. This is a low full toss well outside off. Would have been a wide if Manish would have let it be. But he reaches out to it and slices it over backward point for a boundary.
  • 15.4Similar delivery, Shankar looks to pull. The ball goes off his arms onto his helmet and rolls to the on side. A leg bye taken.
  • 15.3Slower delivery on a shorter length, Shankar misses.
  • 15.2Full on the stumps, milked to long on for one.
  • 15.1A brace off the first deliver. It is slashed over backward point. It lands awkwardly in front of Nazmul there. Although the throw is done to the bowler's end, nothing could prevent the second.
  • Another change. Mustafizur is brought back. India leaked 56 in the last 5 overs, they need 52 now.
  • 14.6Very full on the stumps, squeezed back towards the bowler. 115/4
  • 14.5This time, he gets it off the outer half to short third man for one.
  • 14.4FOUR! Much better. Pandey gets down the track and powers it over the non-striker. Long on gets to his left, only to retrieve the ball from the fence.
  • 14.3FOUR! Edged but Pandey won't mind. Full length ball outside off, he gets his front leg out of the way and looks to go big over covers. Ends up getting a thick outside edge and the ball flies over short third man for a boundary.
  • 14.2Short in length, pulled on the bounce to square leg for one.
  • 14.1On a length angling in, whipped away towards short fine leg for a quick run.
  • Soumya Sarkar into the attack. This over should go for 20 at least, comments a match-reader Praky next to me.
  • 13.6Flatter outside off, punched to covers. 7 runs and a wicket off this over. 104/4
  • 13.5FOUR! Wow, this lad can bat! Gets a flighted delivery on the stumps, he gets down and nails the sweep to perfection. Nice shot to get your first boundary at the highest level.
  • 13.4Hit aerially on the bounce to mid off for another run.
  • 13.3Vijay Shankar get off the mark with his first ball in international cricket. He pushes this to long off for a single.
  • Surprise, surprise! Vijay Shankar is sent up the order, ahead of Dinesh Karthik.
  • 13.2OUT! Massive, massive wicket for Bangladesh, this! Loopy delivery around middle and leg, Rohit kneels down and looks to go big. Ends up offering a skier for Mahmudllah at long on, who accepts it calmly. Perhaps Pandey's struggles put extra pressure on Rohit to take that extra chance. This is Nazmul's first wicket in the series and what a one it is. 69 off 40 needed.
  • 13.1Pandey comes down the track and runs after pushing this to long on.
  • 12.6Run out chance goes abegging! Pandey hits it straight to covers and sets off. Das has just one stump to aim at and he misses. Would have been curtains for Manish. 97/3
  • 12.5On a length outside off, Pandey looks to flick it but does so off the bottom of the blade.
  • 12.4Punched off the back foot by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 12.3Around off, Pandey lofts it down to long on for a single.
  • 12.2Similar delivery, Sharma charges down and pushes it through covers for one.
  • 12.1The Fizz starts from round the wicket and lands it on a fuller length outside off. Sharma drives it aerially past covers for a couple.
  • Mustafizur Rahman is back.
  • 11.6Rohit dances down the track and powers it back. The ball goes through the bowler's legs and a run result. Nazmul couldn't have done much. 91/3
  • 11.5The batsman has punched that ball through the offside.
  • 11.4Served around off, eased through mid off for one.

  • 9.5Length around off, Pandey taps it in front of him.
  • 9.4Pandey rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball.
  • Manish Pandey strides out to bat.
  • 9.3OUT! Rahul holes out. Short ball, looked like he was in control of it. Pulled this from the middle of the bat but the ball goes straight to Sabbir Rahman at deep square leg, as if he was waiting for it. Didn't have to move a bit and takes a simple catch. 84 more needed for India.
  • 9.2Short again, Rohit punches this once again towards mid on for one more.
  • 9.1Back of a length ball, Rahul pushes this down the ground for one. That's the fifty-run stand for these two. They need to carry on.
  • 8.6Ends the over by taking a run towards mid on. 81/2
  • 8.6Wide. The ball is down the leg side but the batsman still goes after it. The umpire has signalled a wide.
  • 8.5FOUR! Outside off, Rahul squares cuts this past backward point for another boundary in that region.
  • 8.4Rohit punches this ball off his back foot towards mid on and takes one.
  • 8.3In the air...but safe. Floated ball, Rahul charges down the wicket and looks to work it to the on side. Ends up getting it from the outer half of the bat and the ball goes high over covers. It falls it no man's land and the sweeper cover then tidies up things. They cross.

  • 7.5Outside off, Rohit tries to work it towards third man but misses it.
  • 7.4Rohit is married but still has an affair with run outs. Rahul cuts this to the point fielder and goes for the run. A good diving stop there and had he hit the stumps at the stiker's end, an already given-up Rohit would have found himself short.

  • 5.5Finds the fielder this time at covers. Dot ball.
  • 5.4It's been driven superbly through the covers by Sharma. The batsmen have picked up a couple of runs.
  • 5.3Tries a similar shot this time, but gets it finer straight to the fielder there. He comes down searching for a run and Rahul rightly sends him back. The substitute fielder has a shy at the striker's end but misses it by a fair margin. Rohit too, is well in.

  • 3.4Rahul gets behind the ball and defends this.
  • KL Rahul is the new man in.
  • 3.3OUT! Yes, Raina has to walk back! Shorter in length again, down the leg. Raina decides to play the pull. Seems to have missed it but Rahim looks confident and puts in a appeal after taking it with a dive to his right. The umpire signals a wide but the keeper is so confident that he convinces his skipper to use the DRS. On seeing the replay, we see that Raina has managed to get some bat on it as the spike on the Snicko shows us that. So, a short stay for Raina ends. 135 more needed for India.
  • An appeal for caught behind has been taken upstairs. Bangladesh look confident. Is Raina a goner?
  • 3.2A nothing shot from Raina. Short from Rubel, Raina charges down and goes for the big heave. The ball goes through bat and his body to the keeper.

Doesn't get to the pitch of the ball and ends up getting a leading edge on that. The ball flies towards wide mid off. Substitute Ariful Haque runs to his right from mid off and puts in a dive to grab that. That's a seriously good catch to send Dhawan back to the hut. Early wicket for Bangladesh.

  • 0.1Flights this a tad full, Dhawan works this towards mid-wicket to get the scoreboard moving.
  • With a challenging score in front of them, the Indian opening duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma strides out to bat. This is after Bangladesh make their way out to the middle after a mini-huddle. They opt for spin to open their bowling. Shakib Al Hasan it is, with the ball. He did the same even in the last game. The southpaw is on strike. Let's go...
  • Hello, folks! Sanjay Bangar, the Indian batting coach, is caught up for a chat, just before the chase gets underway. He reckons that it is a challenging target. Concedes that their aim is to get off to a good start and make maximum use of the Powerplay. Reckons that they have a long-enough batting line up to gun the total down.
