  • We're done with this game. Another heartbreaking loss for the defending champions and their campaign is yet to take off. Hyderabad on the other hand will be pleased after winning tonight but they should have never let this game go this deep. Next up, Bangalore will be hosting Punjab on Friday at 2000 IST (1430 GMT). We look forward to your company then. Cheers!
  • Rashid Khan is chosen for the Man of the Match award. His bowling figures were mind-boggling tonight. He was as miserly as Uncle Scrooge as he gave away only 13 runs in his 4 overs and also bagged the wicket of the big-hitting Ben Cutting at a crucial juncture. An award well-deserved by the Afghan.
  • The young Mumbai leggie was once again on song with his variations and foxed the batsmen with his guile. He hunted down four wickets and gave a sniff to his team. They kept picking wickets but failed to stop the flow of runs. The asking run rate was never an issue for the hosts but a few reckless shots from their batsmen made it uncomfortable for them. The Mumbai bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Mustafizur Rahman in particular, gave it their all towards the end but the visiting team still failed to cross the line. A word of praise for Deepak Hooda who held his calm amidst all the pressure and then Billy Stanlake finished things off with a big blow. For Mumbai, once again it was a case of so near yet so far. A close loss again will be hurting.
  • An excellent game of cricket we have just witnessed. It went right down to the wire and in the end it was Hyderabad who tasted their second win of the season. To be honest, they made a mountain out of a molehill. The chase was always under their control after a power-packed beginning in the Powerplay. Shikhar Dhawan was in his elements and Wriddhiman Saha also played his part. The hosts were cruising at one stage but suddenly hit a roadblock once Mayank Markande was introduced.
  • 19.6FOUR! BILLY STANLAKE, YOU BEAUTY! The giant of a batsman swings his big bat across the line, gets one in his half and lofts it over mid-wicket. It falls safely and races away to the fence. Smiles all around in the Hyderabad camp, the crowd has gone mad. What a game! What a finish! HYDERABAD WIN BY 1 WICKET!
  • 1 needed from 1 ball! Super over anybody? It is Billy Stanlake who is on strike. The fielders come in. The keeper has taken off his right glove. Here we go...
  • 19.5In the air, safffeee! Slower one, on the shorter side, Hooda fails to middle his pull shot. It goes off the top edge to short fine leg, Bumrah runs forward but it falls short of him. They take a run.
  • Rohit having a chat with his bowler. Long on, deep mid-wicket, deep cover in place.
  • 19.4Slower length ball on middle and leg, Stanlake taps it down to mid-wicket and crosses for a quick single. Rohit attacks the ball but fails to pick it up. 2 needed off 2 balls.
  • Field comes up a bit for Stanlake. Three fielders on the off side inside the ring.
  • 19.3Very full in length outside off, Hooda drills it down the ground at long off and takes a run. Doesn't risk the second one there as the fielder was quickly to the ball.
  • 19.2This one is inside the tramline, outside off, Hooda flashes and misses. 4 needed off 4 balls!
  • 19.2Wide! Cutting is feeling the pressure here. Serves one way wide outside off, Hooda leaves.
  • 19.1SIX! What a shot under pressure! Deepak Hooda has brought the crowd back to life here. This also is the first biggie of the chase and what a moment to hit it. Cutting runs from around the wicket and serves a full toss outside off, Hooda throws his heart and soul into this shot and launches it over wide long off for a biggie. A shot reminding us of the Nidahas trophy final when Dinesh Karthik hit the winning sixer, it was a similar blow.
  • 11 needed off 6 balls. Ben Cutting to bowl the pressure over. Can he do it for Mumbai? Deepak Hooda will be on strike as Billy Stanlake joins him at the other end. We cannot write off the thought of having a Super Over either.
  • 18.6OUT! Another one bites the dust! Mustafizur has his arms aloft in celebration. A shortish length ball around off, angling away, Sandeep shuffles across the stumps to chip it over short fine leg but fails to connect properly. It lobs in the air and Krunal Pandya accepts the catch gleefully. 137/9
  • 18.5Smart bowling by Rahman. Another cutter around off, Sandeep pushes inside the line and misses.
  • Sandeep Sharma is in next. 11 needed off 8 balls!
  • 18.4OUT! Caught and bowled! Mumbai can believe! Their supporters in the crowd are going crazy. A slower delivery, full and on middle, Kaul tries playing it straight but ends up chipping it back. Rahman makes sure to keep it under his grasp. Phew, this is going down to the wire.
  • 18.3Another play and a miss! Rahman bowls it full and wide outside off, Kaul tries to drive it through but misses. Two dot balls, pressure building on the number 9 batsman.
  • 18.2Play and a miss! Back of a length delivery outside off, an off pace one, Kaul pushes inside the line and misses. That wasn't very far away from the outside edge.
  • 18.1Lands it on a length around off, Hooda punches it off his back foot, finds the gap through point and collects a run.
  • Mustafizur Rahman into the attack. 12 needed off 12, three wickets left.
  • 17.6Denies a hat-trick. Bumrah angles in a full ball on middle and off, Kaul keeps it out safely to covers. Bumrah is bowled out, 4-0-32-2! 136/7
  • Siddarth Kaul to face the hat-trick ball. A slip in place.
  • 17.5OUT! Gone first ball. There is still life left in this game. Bumrah is doing it for his team, he is on a hat-trick now. A fuller length ball outside off, Rashid tries to drive it through covers but it takes the outside edge and settles nicely in the gloves of Ishan Kishan.
  • Rashid Khan is in next. He is no mug with the bat, in fact, he has opened the batting for Afghanistan lately.
  • 17.4OUT! A soft dismissal for Pathan! Bumrah digs in a short ball on middle and off, Yusuf fails to middle his attempted pull shot properly and hands a simple catch to Kieron Pollard at short mid-wicket. Is there any twist in the tale? 12 needed off 14 balls.
  • 17.3Spears this one in. Very full and on middle and leg, Hooda does well to get it away and strokes it through covers for a single. Turns for the second run again but Yusuf has his hand raised.
  • 17.2Serves a yorker outside off, Pathan reaches out and squeezes it out towards third man for a run.
  • 17.1Fetches a shortish length ball from outside off and smashes it to long on for a run.
  • Jasprit Bumrah to bowl his last over.
  • 16.6FOUR! Smartly played by the experienced campaigner! Picks the slower delivery early, it's on a length around middle and leg, Pathan doesn't try to overhit it and just places his shot wide of short fine leg for a boundary. 133/5
  • 16.5Sharp delivery, a touch short and outside off, Yusuf swishes and misses. 19 needed off 19!
  • 16.4Slower and a bit shorter on middle, Hooda winds up for a big shot across the line but gets a bottom edge. It rolls adjacent to the pitch and they cross.
  • 16.3Shortish and slower in pace around off, Pathan plays it down to short third man takes an easy single. Bumrah needs to be more active, he was a bit lazy, this run should not have been given away easily.
  • 16.2Width on offer outside off, Hooda dabs it to third man for a run.
  • 16.1NOT OUT! Deepak Hooda survives. A length ball on middle, slower in pace, Hooda eases it off his pads through mid-wicket and rushes back for the second run. A sharp and flat throw comes to the keeper who is standing in front of the sticks and Kishan immediately breaks the stumps. Hooda also dives at the same time and it seems touch and go. They appeal and the square leg umpire goes upstairs. The replays roll in and it finds that the dive has saved Deepak. Uffff...that was close!
  • Appeal for a run out and it's taken upstairs...
  • Ben Cutting is brought back into the attack.
  • Strategic break. 24 needed off 24 balls and you have to back the batting team at this point of time. However, a wicket or two immediately after this break and Mumbai will fancy their chances.
  • 15.6Rahman bowls it wide outside off, angling away, Pathan tries to run it past short third man but fails to connect. 124/5
  • 15.5Slower cutter outside off, angling away, Hooda pushes it just wide of short third man and takes a run. Doing it sensibly.
  • 15.4Pathan drives this through the covers. One run added to the total.
  • 15.3Shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 15.2Walks across the stumps to a length ball around off and helps it wide of mid on for a run.
  • 15.1Beaten! Angling away from the batsman, on a good length, Hooda pushes inside the line and misses.
  • Mustafizur Rahman is back on.
  • 14.6Full and outside off, angling away, Hooda drills it through covers and Sangwan in the deep fumbles slightly. He recovers quickly though but cannot prevent the third run. 121/5
  • 14.5Brilliant effort from Ben Cutting! Pathan tries to go big, seems to have got the connection as well but it has not gone the distance. Cutting at long on tries to catch the ball, does so too, but in the process he starts to fall over the rope. The Aussie quickly releases the ball as he goes down. When all that happened, they take just a single. Ben has saved five. Outstanding work.
  • 14.4Tries to force a length ball through the line but gets an outside edge down to third man. Another single.
  • 14.3Pathan opens the face of the bat and helps it to third man. One run added to the total.
  • 14.2Run out chance missed! A direct hit would have got Hooda. A back of a length ball on off, Deepak works it through square leg. He crosses for a run and then turns for the second run. His partner however is not interested and sends him back. The throw comes to the bowler's end, Bumrah collects it and then takes the bails off. A bit slow in doing so and Hooda returns safely.
  • 14.1A length ball angling into the batsman, Hooda works it on the leg side but finds mid-wicket.
  • Jasprit Bumrah is back on as Mumbai keep looking for wickets.
  • 13.6Good length ball on middle, Hooda helps it to mid-wicket and takes a run. 114/5
  • 13.5Remains on the back foot and punches it down to long on for one.
  • 13.4The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 13.3FOUR! Short in length and on middle, Pathan gets across and help-pulls it behind square leg for a boundary. The runs continue to flow, they still are going at a rate over 8 in spite of losing wickets.
  • 13.2Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 13.1Slower paced delivery, on a good length outside off, Hooda calmly plays it down to third man for a run.
  • Yusuf Pathan strides out to the middle. Also Ben Cutting has been introduced into the attack.
  • 12.6OUT! Shakib drags it on! Mayank has his fourth, what a debut season he is having. Another googly, landing a bit short and outside off, Shakib stays back footed and then tries to push at it at the last moment. It takes the inside half of his bat and lights the stumps. Markande is ecstatic. 41 needed off 42 balls, game on! Meanwhile, the leggie has finished his spell for the evening, 4-0-23-4, praiseworthy! 107/5
  • 12.5Walks down the track and chips it down to long on for a run.
  • 12.4Driven through mid off by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 12.3Probably a googly from round the wicket, around off, Shakib tries to drive but slices it towards point. Dot ball.
  • 12.2Goes straighter this time and Hooda eases it down to long on for a run.
  • 12.1Mayank is bowling out here. Mumbai will want another wicket or two from him. Tossed up ball on middle, flicked straight to mid-wicket.
  • 11.6Edged but safe! Back of the hand delivery, shortish in length outside off, Hooda pushes at it and gets a faint tickle on it. The ball bounces in front of the keeper who fumbles. They collect a single. 104/4
  • 11.5The batsman works it down the leg side. One run added to the total.
  • 11.4Straighter this time by Fizz, Shakib nudges it through square leg for a brace.
  • 11.3FOUR! A hit-me delivery, short and wide outside off, Shakib latches onto it and whacks it through point for a boundary. Mumbai need to cut down the flow of runs, only picking wickets won't do.
  • 11.2Knocks it down to mid on and rushes to the other end.
  • 11.1Shortish on off, Shakib flashes his bat at it and edges it down to third man for a run.
  • Mustafizur Rahman is back on.
  • 10.6FOUR! A cracking beginning from Hooda. Shimmies down the track and bludgeons it past his partner at the other end for a powerful boundary. 94/4
  • 10.5Goes down on one knee and sweeps it to backward square leg for a run.
  • 10.4Turning away from around leg, Shakib pushes it to point.
  • 10.3Flatter on off, defended off the back foot.
  • Deepak Hooda is in next.
  • 10.2OUT! Rash, very rash from Pandey. They don't need these kind of high risk shots as the asking rate is well under control. Markande dishes out a loopy leg spinner around middle, Manish skips down the track and tries to heave it over the leg side. But it spins away to catch a top edge. The ball loops in the air, Mayank moves across to his left to take the catch initially but after seeing his skipper getting underneath it, he stops. There wasn't any calling by the look of things and Rohit somehow manages to hold on to the catch. Pandey will be kicking himself at the moment. A needless shot, have to say.
  • 10.1Loopy leg spinner outside off, Pandey gets forward and drives it through covers for a brace.
  • 9.6Driven through mid off by the batsman. One run added to the total. We have reached the halfway mark here, Hyderabad in spite of losing wickets are in front owing to a superb Powerplay. 87/3
  • 9.5Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 9.4Short and cut through point for one.
  • 9.3Presses forward and drives it down to long off for a run.
  • 9.2Uses his feet to reach the pitch of the delivery and knocks it down to long off for a single.
  • 9.1Nicely drives it through covers and takes a run.
  • Krunal Pandya is switched on as well. Mumbai sniffing more wickets here.
  • 8.6FOUR! Poor delivery, it's short and outside off, Pandey helps himself with a boundary by playing the square cut. 8 runs and a wicket from the over! 81/3
  • Shakib Al Hasan walks in next.
  • 8.5OUT! Dhawan holes out and this is a massive breakthrough for Mumbai! The southpaw was looking in dangerous form and the visitors will be delighted to see his back. Markande once again providing with the goods. A tossed up ball on middle, Dhawan tries to play the slog sweep but it takes the top edge and flies straight down the throat of Bumrah at fine leg. He loses his balance a touch but stays well inside the limit. Good phase of play for Mumbai but they cannot afford to relax. The asking rate for the home team ain't much and hence they need to keep chipping away at the wickets.
  • 8.4Presses forward to a full ball and pushes it towards point for one.
  • 8.3Goes on the back foot and punches it down to long off for a run.
  • 8.2Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 8.1Fails to flick it and it goes off his pads to point. They cross for a leg bye. Now an overthrow, and they steal another.
  • Manish Pandey is the new batsman.
  • 7.6OUT! Terrific review again from Mumbai! They have got the prized scalp of Kane Williamson. The Kiwi skipper once again tries to be cute with his little dab shot. But this time he seems to have edged it behind. Ishan Kishan gathers the ball and straightaway runs in delight. He lets out a roaring appeal, the bowler also joins him but the umpire shows no interest. Mumbai opt for the review and hit the jackpot. The Snicko detects a slight edge. Hyderabad have suddenly hit a roadblock. 73/2
  • Appeal for a catch! Ishan Kishan is very sure as he lets out a big appeal. The bowler is also interested but the umpire remains unmoved. Mumbai take another review.
  • 7.5FOUR! Deft! Rahman hurls across a cutter, around off on a length, Williamson sticks back and just opens the face of the bat at the last moment. Gets it away from the outside edge, well in control though, and it speeds away to the third man fence.
  • 7.4Direct hit would have been curtains for Dhawan. He plays down a length ball to covers and sets off for a nonexistent single. Suryakumar attacks the ball, picks it up, has a shy at the bowler's end but fails to score the direct hit. Dhawan was not even in the frame. A big let off.
  • 7.3Stays on the back foot and taps it down on the off side.
  • 7.2FOUR! Tonk! Rahman bowls it on the shorter side around off, Shikhar picks it in a trice, gets on top of the bounce and cracks his pull shot in front of square leg. No chance for the fielder in the deep.
  • 7.1A good length ball on middle, Williamson pushes it from the crease to mid on for a run.
  • Mustafizur Rahman to bowl against his old team.
  • 6.6Helps it off his pads to deep backward square leg for a run. Successful over by Markande. 63/1
  • Skipper Kane Williamson walks in next.
  • 6.5OUT! That's hitting the leg stump, wonder how? A well-disguised googly by Markande, Saha takes a little shimmy down the track and then realizes that he is beaten in flight. Fails to pick the variation, tries to keep it out but fails. He is rapped on the pads, they appeal but the umpire shakes his head. To be honest, that looked to be missing leg and at the most would have clipped the leg stump. But no. The replays roll in, finds the impact in line and shows it to be hitting the leg pole. Well, with the batsmen down the track a bit, it's a bit shocking to see that. Anyway, Saha has been given the marching orders. First success for Mumbai but they need many more in quick time.
  • DRS time! Saha fails to pick the googly, is hit on the pads, they appeal but nothing from the umpire. Mumbai take the referral.
  • 6.4Not in control this time. Dhawan jumps out of the crease for a big heave-ho over the leg side but it takes the inner half of the bat and rolls through square leg for a run.
  • 6.3Works it off his pads but finds the mid-wicket fielder.
  • 6.2FOUR! That's a wrong length from the young leggie. Half-tracker outside off, Dhawan camps back, picks his spot and spanks it to the deep cover fence. Lewis in the deep tried his best but to no avail.
  • 6.1Smartly played. Saha goes down on one knee, fetches a full ball from outside off and paddles it towards short fine leg for a run.
  • Mayank Markande is introduced into the attack. He is fresh from a heroic debut and his team wants him to do the magic again. A slip in place.
  • Strategic break! A speedy beginning from Hyderabad. They are off to a flying start and Mumbai have their task cut out. Dhawan has looked in fine touch, while Saha after getting a life, has settled down and is batting sensibly. Only 92 needed, the asking rate is well under control and Mumbai will have to pick wickets, that too in a heap, to make a match out of this.
  • 5.6FOUR! Streaky this time. Hyderabad won't mind this at all. A length ball around off, cutting back in a bit, Dhawan tries to play it late but it takes the inside half of the bat and races past the stumps to the fine leg fence. 56/0 in the Powerplay! 56/0
  • 5.5FOUR! Nicely done! Wrong line from Bumrah, drifts down the leg side and Dhawan has no qualms in flicking it behind square leg for a boundary. 50 comes up for Hyderabad!
  • 5.4Play and a miss! Short in length and wide outside off, Dhawan advances down the track and tries to slam it over the off side. Fails to make any connection.
  • 5.3The batsman has played it to the point region. One run added to the total.
  • 5.2Bumrah switches to around the wicket and serves it on off, Dhawan pushes it with soft hands to covers for one.
  • 5.1FOUR! A great start to the over again for Hyderabad. A juicy half-volley outside off and Dhawan cashes in. A crunchy cover drive from the bat of Dhawan and it speeds away to the fence in no time.
  • Change of ends for Jasprit Bumrah.
  • 4.6The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single. Just 4 from the over! 42/0
  • 4.5Skips down the track and works it in front of square leg for a run.
  • 4.4Is that dropped? A flatter delivery, short and around off, Saha makes space to cut it through the line but seems to have missed it. The keeper fails to collect it. Maybe, there was a faint edge. The bowler is not looking impressed.
  • 4.3Loopy and on middle, Dhawan walks down the track and swipes it over square leg. Yadav in the deep does the mopping up job and they take a run.
  • 4.2Tossed up ball on middle, Dhawan gets on the front foot and defends.
  • 4.1Flighted and full on off, knocked down to deepish mid on for a run.
  • Bowling change. It's Krunal Pandya to roll his arm, for the first time this season.
  • 3.6Good shot! Full and on middle, angling down, Dhawan picks it off his pads and flicks it over mid-wicket. By the time the fine leg fielder cuts it off, they take a couple of runs. Excellent start by Hyderabad in the chase. 38/0
  • 3.5Cutting ups his pace this time and bowls it outside off, Wriddhiman runs it down to third man and rotates the strike.
  • 3.4FOUR! Hit with utter disdain! Cutting lets out a length ball outside off, slower in pace, Saha stands back and powers it over the non-striker's head for a boundary.
  • 3.3A little short and on middle, Dhawan tries to pull but gets an inside edge onto the pads. It deflects towards square leg and they cross.
  • 3.2A touch short and outside off, Saha runs it down to third man for a run. Hyderabad don't need to do anything extraordinary.
  • 3.1Starts with a slower delivery around off, Dhawan plays it down towards point, finds the gap and takes a run.
  • Ben Cutting is into the attack.
  • 2.6The batsman defends it from within the crease. Dot ball to end the over, 13 from it and a dropped catch. 28/0
  • 2.5FOUR! Edgy! Sangwan goes short and Saha top edges his attempted pull shot down to fine leg for a boundary. Turning out to be an expensive over.
  • 2.4Covers the line of the delivery and defends it on the leg side.
  • 2.3DROPPED AND FOUR! Cutting is the culprit there. He did all the hard work to reach but then spills out the chance. Coming to the delivery, it's a length ball outside off, Saha attempts to pick it over the leg side but fails to middle it properly. It balloons in the air towards mid on, Ben runs behind from there, gets his hands to it but fails to hold on. To add to the misery, it runs away to the fence.
  • 2.2Stifled appeal for an lbw! Full and on middle, angling down, Dhawan tries to flick but misses. He is hit on the pads, the bowler appeals but nothing from the umpire. The batsmen meanwhile cross and it's signalled a leg bye.
  • 2.1FOUR! Poor balls will travel. Sangwan delivers a length ball, angling into the batsman, Dhawan takes a positive stride forward and lofts it over mid-wicket for a boundary. Good start to the over, pressure straightaway on the bowler.
  • 1.6Probably a slower one again, full and on off, Dhawan picks it and quietly bunts it towards mid off. Steal another run to end the over. 8 runs from it without taking any risk, they don't need anything fancy at the moment. 15/0
  • 1.5FOUR! If you spend some time in the middle, keep patience, then you will get bad balls. Bumrah delivers it full and in the line of the middle stump. Dhawan flicks it off his pads and it races through mid-wicket, beating the chase from the fielder inside the circle.
  • 1.4Saha is batted intelligently, in fact, both the openers. Calmly plays down a length ball towards third man to keep the scoreboard ticking.
  • 1.3Slower one, full and on middle, Dhawan softly plays it behind square leg and by the time the short fine leg fielder circles around it, they cross for a run.
  • 1.2Well played. There is a little bit of width on offer outside off and Saha smartly works it past first slip for a run.
  • 1.1On a length and outside off, Saha stays back and defends it down towards cover-point.
  • Jasprit Bumrah to bowl from the other end. Rohit not trying out spin here, maybe because Saha and Dhawan, both play spin quite well.
  • 0.6Straighter in line this time, Sangwan. It's on a length and easily worked through backward square leg for a run. 7/0
  • 0.5Good length ball angling away from the wicketkeeper batsman, Saha, the little man, pushes it with an angled bat to point where Lewis slides to stop the ball and parries it to his countryman Pollard at cover-point.
  • 0.4Nearly drags it on. Believe me, Saha is very lucky to survive here. A length ball landing on off, coming back in a touch, Saha tries to hit it through the line but it catches the inside edge and goes very closely past the stumps.
  • 0.3Sensibly done now. Dhawan just taps a length ball wide of backward point and steals a single. Good positive start by Hyderabad.
  • 0.2FOUR! Poor, poor delivery and it has been duly punished. Sangwan offers plenty of width outside off, the length doesn't matter much after that. Dhawan gets the chance to free his arms and he smashes it past the cover fielder for a cracking boundary.
  • 0.1Off the mark first ball! Sangwan delivers it on a length and around leg, Saha nudges it through square leg for a single.
  • Back for the run chase. It's not a big ask in front of Hyderabad but pressure of a run chase can make you do funny things. Mumbai have a good bowling unit and they surely will try their best to defend this total and earn first points this season. Wriddhiman Saha and Shikhar Dhawan are the Hyderabad openers. Pradeep Sangwan to kick things off for Mumbai. Let's play...
