  • So that is it from this game. We have our third team to reach the playoffs and it is Kolkata who have sealed their place. However, there is still one spot left for it and it is something we will find out tomorrow, the last day of the league stage. Again we have two games lined up. Delhi will be playing Mumbai first at the former's den at 1600 local (1030 GMT). Followed by Chennai taking on Punjab in Pune at 2000 local (1430 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye.
  • Man of the Match, Chris Lynn, says they are building momentum nicely. Mentions the wickets back home suits his game but he is trying to adjust to the wickets here and looking to build partnerships with his teammates. Admits he likes batting with Narine and it is fun to watch him from the other end. Further adds they don't want to change the way they are playing and would like to continue the same at the business end.
  • Kolkata skipper, Dinesh Karthik, says he is happy to reach the playoffs as every team in the league was striving for that. Reckons they are playing some good cricket and he feels they are peaking at the right time.
  • Hyderabad skipper, Kane Williamson, says a few more runs would have been handy as the wicket played well. Reckons something around 200 would have been good but credits the way Kolkata batted. Mentions what has happened now does not matter and they now have to look ahead to the playoffs. Appreciates the way Kolkata bowled towards the end but they could have had more on the board. Ends by saying they want to be positive going into the next game.
  • Earlier, the Kolkata bowlers were put under immense pressure by the striking force of Hyderabad. Shikhar Dhawan, Shreevats Goswami and Kane Williamson were in great touch but failed to play a long innings. The visitors made a resounding comeback in the death overs and didn't allow Hyderabad a desirable finish. 31/7 came in the last 5 overs and that hurt the hosts the most. Their bowling has been losing steam of late and once again they didn't look their best. After faring so well in this season, they would not want to slip at the business end of the tournament.
  • A convincing win for Kolkata and they have booked their place in the playoffs! They planned their chase superbly against one of the best bowling attacks this season. Sunil Narine gave them a quickfire start while Chris Lynn played yet another responsible knock. He built a 67-run stand with Uthappa which very much took the game in Kolkata's favour. Later on, Dinesh Karthik once again finished things with aplomb. A good win for them while third loss in a row for Hyderabad, something they need to worry about. Like winning, losing is also a habit and they would like to get rid of it as soon as possible.
  • 19.4A full toss this time, Karthik pushes it down towards mid on and rushes across for a quick single. That's it, KOLKATA WIN BY 5 WICKETS!
  • 19.3Brathwaite switches to over the wicket and lands it on a length outside off, DK flashes and misses.
  • Shubman Gill is the new batsman. But it will be Dinesh Karthik on strike with just one more needed.
  • 19.2OUT! Shortish by the West Indian this time, around off, Rana goes for the pull shot but fails to get enough meat behind it. Bhuvneshwar Kumar at deep backward square leg takes a simple catch.
  • 19.1FOUR! Brathwaite speeds in from 'round the wicket and serves a very full ball wide outside off, Rana reaches out for it and squeezes it through backward point. Sandeep Sharma rushes across to his left from third man, puts in a dive to stop the ball but fails in his attempt. A boundary signalled after confirming with the third umpire.
  • Carlos Brathwaite to bowl the final over. 5 needed more!
  • 18.6Tailing in, looking for a yorker, but it reaches as a low full toss to the batsman, Karthik pushes it out with an angled bat to point. Looks for a run but is sent back as the fielder misses his shy at the striker's end. 168/4

  • 17.4OUT! Manish Pandey takes it this time! The full ball does the trick. It is on the slower side. Russell once again tries to go big but only hits it high up in the air towards long on. Pandey comes running in and takes it easily. Kaul is pumped as he brings out Brett Lee's chainsaw celebration. Andre's struggle comes to an end. 13 more needed from 14.
  • 17.3DROPPED AND FOUR! But a tremendous effort by Sandeep Sharma. The short ball almost gets Russell. Kaul bangs it in on middle, Russell once again goes for the pull but gets a top edge towards fine leg. Sandeep makes good ground to his right, dives, tries to catch it with two hands but can't hang on. To add salt to the wound, the ball also goes over the boundary line.
  • 17.2Another swing and another miss! Short again on middle, Russell throws the kitchen sink at it but does not connect.
  • 17.1Slower ball outside off, Karthik hits it through covers and gets to the other end. 17 in 17 needed.
  • Siddarth Kaul is back on.
  • 16.6Russell needs no sighters as he winds up to go big. Carlos bowls a short one. Russell swings but misses. 155/3
  • 16.5Goes fuller this time, Karthik works it down to long on for a run.
  • 16.4FOUR! Top shot! Another bumper on middle. Karthik gets on top of the bounce and pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary.
  • 16.4WIDE! Down the leg side, Karthik misses the flick and the umpire signals it a wide.
  • Andre Russell is the next man in.
  • 16.3OUT! Brathwaite strikes! A little too late one would feel. Once again the short ball gets the better of Uthappa. How many times have we seen him get out in this manner? A bumper outside off, the bounce gets big on him as he goes for the pull. It takes the top edge and goes towards square leg. Goswami the keeper goes after it and takes a neat catch. End of another good knock by Uthappa and he has brought his team to the brink of victory.
  • 16.2Slower ball outside off, it is cut through point for a run. Singles will do it for them.
  • 16.1Uthappa gives him the charge and Brathwaite follows him. Robin swings but misses to get hit on the pads. The ball rolls towards point and the batsmen run a leg bye.
  • Strategic break. Carlos Brathwaite to bowl the next over.
  • 15.6Spinning away from around off, Uthappa tries to flick but gets a leading edge on the off side. Goes safely and they cross. 147/2
  • 15.5SIX! Thumped! Full flighted ball around off, Uthappa gets down on one knee and smokes it over long on for a maximum.
  • 15.4FOUR! Too full and on off, Uthappa gives it the full whack of the bat and hammers it down the ground to long off for a boundary.
  • 15.3A googly landing around off, not picked by Karthik. He tries to defend off the front foot but gets an inside edge onto the pads. It rolls behind square leg and they cross.
  • 15.2Loopy and full on middle, it's quietly nudged towards mid-wicket for a couple of runs as Rashid himself runs after the ball. 38 needed off 28 balls.

  • 14.5Shortish and outside off, it's punched over covers for a couple. They have crossed the 129-run mark, so they will finish ahead of Rajasthan. One would feel that they are almost certain for a top 4 finish now.
  • 14.4SIX! Off the top edge and it has gone all the way. Back of a length delivery angling down the leg side, Karthik tries to heave it over the leg side but it takes the top edge and clears fine leg.
  • 14.3Short and around off, pulled towards mid-wicket, a good stop by the fielder inside the ring.
  • 14.2Run out appeal, taken upstairs. Full and on middle, angling in, Karthik fails to flick and it hits him on the pads. The ball rolls straight back towards the bowler and DK comes out of the crease in search of a run. He is sent back as Kumar hits the stumps at the keeper's end. It's referred upstairs but to no avail. Safely in.
  • 14.1Full and angling down the leg side, it's clipped off the pads through square leg for a run.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back on.
  • 13.6Goes on the back foot and punches it to covers. The fielder misfields but no run taken. Just 2 from the over and a wicket as well. 121/2
  • 13.5A great inswinging yorker by Kaul, around middle, Uthappa does well to dig it out towards long on for a run.
  • 13.4Good length ball shaping back in from around off, Karthik drops it with gentle hands on the off side and crosses.
  • 13.3Nearly an edge! A skiddy delivery, landing on a shortish length just outside off, Karthik tries to run it down to third man but misses. The idea was right from DK with third man inside the ring.
  • 13.2A length ball angling into the batsman, around off, Karthik works it off his pads but finds the short mid-wicket fielder.
  • Dinesh Karthik walks in next with Kolkata needing 54 off 41 balls.
  • 13.1OUT! The bowling change does the trick. This is just what Hyderabad needed, this is exactly what Kane Williamson needed. Kaul breaks the 67-run stand. He bowls a full ball on middle, it might be the slower one. Lynn tries to clear long on but he does not get the desired elevation. Manish Pandey runs to his right, takes it but then realizes he is going beyond the rope. He throws it up in the air, goes across and then comes back in to take the catch. There was one more fielder interested to take the catch but Pandey did it all by himself. The umpires want to make sure it is clean and they go upstairs. Replays show that the catch is clean as a whistle. Lynn is walking back after playing a good knock. He has done his job here. 54 more needed.

  • 11.6A dot to end another expensive over! He attacks the stumps and Lynn defends it onto the ground. 113/1
  • 11.5Works it against the turn through square leg for a run.
  • 11.4FOUR! Kolkata are doing it easily here! 10 from the last two. This is short and and outside off, Uthappa waits and then guides it through backward point for a boundary.
  • 11.3SIX! Clean as a whistle! Shakib tosses this one up on off, Uthappa lunges and lofts it over the long on fence for a maximum.
  • 11.2Eases this down to long on and gets to the other end. This also brings up the 50-run stand between the two.
  • 11.1Uthappa backs away and Shakib bowls it a touch shorter. He lofts it over covers but does not find the gap and only gets a run.
  • 10.6On a length around off, punched from the crease to covers. 100/1

  • 9.3Full and around off, driven this time down to long off for a single.
  • 9.2Arm ball on off, skidding in, Uthappa goes back and punches it to covers for a single.
  • 9.1Flatter and shorter on off, Lynn rocks back and cuts it through cover-point. The point fielder moves across to his right, puts in a dive and parries it to sweeper cover. A single taken.
  • Shakib Al Hasan is back into the attack.
  • Strategic break. 88 needed off 66 balls and Kolkata will be backing themselves at this stage. Chris Lynn is playing a good sensible knock and Robin Uthappa has also looked steady. Hyderabad need their spinners to leave their mark in the middle overs.
  • 8.6Shortish and on off, pulled through backward square leg for a single. Again 5 from Rashid's over. 85/1
  • 8.5Dropped! A floated full ball around off, spinning away a tad, Uthappa kneels for the slog sweep but gets a big top edge. It loops towards mid on, Rashid runs after it himself but fails to take the catch. He never was in position to grab that. A single taken.
  • 8.4Goes down and sweeps it towards fine leg for a run.
  • 8.3Googly again, spinning big from around off, Lynn tries to hit across the line but misses. A stifled appeal but that's always missing leg.
  • 8.2Probably a googly, landing full outside off and turning in, Robin tries to play the reverse sweep but fails to middle it properly. He is hit on the pads and the ball deflects to the off side. They cross and it's given as a run. Maybe, some inside edge then.
  • 8.1Nicely played! Tossed up ball outside off, Lynn sits forward and across to sweep it behind square leg for a single.

  • 7.3Short and wide outside off, Lynn tries to cut but misses. Beaten for the lack of pace, Chris.
  • 7.2SIX! That's high and handsome! A back of a length ball angling into the batsman, on middle and leg, Lynn hops back to make room and swings it mightily over mid-wicket for a biggie.
  • 7.1Runs in from over the wicket and angles in a length ball from wide of the crease, Lynn defends it to the off side.
  • Carlos Brathwaite to bowl.

  • 6.2Gets back inside the crease and plays it down square of the wicket on the off side for a run.

  • Here comes the Afghan! Rashid Khan to roll his arm with a slip in place.
  • 5.6Bouncer! The batsman ducks in time to let that one go over him. 66/1 in the Powerplay, 107 needed off 84 balls. 66/1
  • 5.5FOUR! This is one shot that Robin plays really well. Has got out multiple times executing it but still backs himself. Short and around off, Uthappa is on top of the bounce as he nails his pull to the deep mid-wicket fence. The great VVS Laxman used to say that you should always back yourself, doesn't matter if your pet shot is letting you down. You can be a bit cautious but should never stop playing it. Nine out of 10 times you will succeed.
  • 5.4Yet another low full toss, in the line of the stumps, Lynn this time drives it to the left of the mid off fielder and crosses for a single.
  • 5.3Full toss on middle, Lynn works it across the line but finds the fielder inside the ring at mid-wicket.
  • 5.2In the region outside off, Uthappa uses the pace to guide it past first slip to third man. A single taken.
  • 5.1Appeal for a catch! Goswami is very confident but the bowler isn't much. A delivery sliding down the leg side, Uthappa tries to flick but fails to middle his shot. The keeper collects the ball, appeals but nothing from the umpire. The replays detect no wood.

  • 4.1Too full and around off, Lynn digs it out back to the bowler.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns.
  • 3.6The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 12 runs and a wicket from it. 53/1
  • 3.5Tossed up ball outside off, Lynn drives it down to long off and crosses.
  • Robin Uthappa walks in next.
  • 3.4OUT! This time Pandey takes the catch at long on. Shakib does the trick. He serves a flatter delivery around middle, spinning back in, Narine backs away with the same aim to clear long on. Goes through with his shot but not with the same amount of power. It balloons in the air and it's an easy catch for Manish in the deep. Narine however has done his job, a quickfire 29 from his bat has set the tone for this chase.
  • 3.3SIX! Up and over Pandey at long on! Flatter and fuller around middle and leg, Narine goes through with his shot and dispatches it over the line. Delightful batting, this.
  • 3.2FOUR! Just can't bowl that length. A short one around off, skidding away, Narine swivels on the back foot and pulls it over square leg. No fielder in the deep and it crosses the fence with ease.
  • 3.1Fires this one on middle and leg, Lynn clips it in front of square leg for a run.
  • Shakib Al Hasan into the attack now.
  • 2.6Lynn makes room and Kaul follows him with a full ball. He fails to dig it out and the ball hits the pads and goes towards the off side. Narine wants a run but Lynn is late to respond. He still goes for it. Kaul gets to the ball quickly and has a shy at his end but misses. Leg bye taken. 41/0
  • 2.5A yorker on leg stump. Lynn jams it out to mid off.
  • 2.4FOUR! Take that says Lynn! On a length and around off, Lynn backs away and flat bats it over mid off for another boundaries.
  • 2.3Goes back to bowling length and on the stumps, Lynn guides it to point.
  • 2.2SIX! Lynn joins the party now! A short ball angling into the batsman. Lynn winds up and pulls it over the mid-wicket fence for a biggie.
  • 2.1The slower ball on off, Lynn defends it onto the ground.
  • Siddarth Kaul is on now.
  • Note - If Kolkata make 129, their NRR will remain above Rajasthan. Right now, both teams are in the top four, tied with 14 points each. With Mumbai (excellent NRR) and Punjab (poor NRR) on 12 points apiece and a game left, Kolkata's one aim should be to get to 129 at least.
  • 1.6SIX! BANG! 20 from the over! Once again Narine uses his feet to great effect and tonks it over the bowler's head. The connection was such that the ball has gone all the way. 30/0
  • 1.6Pressure getting to Sandeep Sharma here. Another wide as he bowls this down the leg side.
  • 1.6Sharma will have to reload again as he bowls it down the leg side. The umpire signals it a wide.
  • 1.5Hit this low full toss to the man at mid off.
  • 1.4FOUR! Best of the three boundaries! This is on the fuller side outside off. Narine goes over the cover fielder and the ball races away. Kolkata off to a flier here.
  • 1.3FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries! This was not convincing though but Narine won't mind. The slower ball on middle, Narine uses his feet and swings. He gets it off the inner half through backward square leg for a boundary.
  • 1.2FOUR! Just over! The outswinger on off, Narine slices it towards point. The fielder there jumps with a hand stretched out but it evades him and goes into the fence.
  • 1.1Short first up outside off, Narine goes for the cut but misses.
  • Sandeep Sharma to bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6FOUR! Expensive first over from Kumar. 10 from it. Once again he makes the mistake of offering width outside off and he pays the price as Lynn cuts him through point for the second boundary of the over. 10/0
  • 0.5That is brilliantly bowled but it is equally well played! Narine clears his front leg and Kumar bowls an inswinging yorker. Narine gets his bat down in time and guides it towards third man for a run.
  • 0.4The outswinger this time on off, it is on the fuller side. Lynn hits it towards mid off for a quick run.
  • 0.3FOUR! A little bit of room and that is enough for Lynn. He rocks back and cuts it through cover-point to get off the mark in style.
  • 0.2Hits the length hard again on off, Lynn defends it onto the ground.
  • 0.1A little swing back into the batsman and it is on a length around middle. Lynn needs a sighter as he defends it onto the ground.
  • We are back for the chase! Out come the dynamic pair of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine. The former will be on strike and he will face Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has the new ball. Will he get some swing? Let us find out. Here we go...
