  • What a game, ladies and gents! Chennai make an inspirational comeback from the jaws of defeat and plunge themselves into their 7th Indian T20 League final. Hyderabad narrowly missed out tonight, but they aren't out of just yet. They still have an opportunity to make it to the final, in Qualifier 2, but will have to wait to see who emerges victorious in the Eliminator. Kolkata and Rajasthan will face off in it on 23rd May, at 1900 local (1330 GMT). You don't want to miss it. See you folks then!
  • Faf du Plessis gets the Man of the Match award! Says that it's nice to make a contribution tonight. Adds that last night he was reflecting on the game that he played in Mumbai and took confidence from that. Says that when you are out there batting, you focus on batting till the end and hope something special happens. Mentions about Shardul Thakur who came in and hit a few boundaries. Feels the wicket was not easy to bat on and credits Hyderabad for bowling really well. Has a word of praise for Rashid Khan and admits that he was very tough to play as he bowls very quickly. Is happy to cross the line.
  • MS Dhoni is smiling and says that when you are on top it gives you the liberty to lose and even if they would have lost, they would have got the second chance. Adds that they bowled really well and there was something in it for the bowlers which even Bhuvneshwar got and was nicely backed by Rashid Khan. Admits that they kept losing wickets and that's why they had to push themselves towards the end. Feels it all happens in the knockout stages and wants his team to learn from this experience and keep on improving constantly. On death bowling, Dhoni replies he has the best combination and these are the resources he has. Adds that they will get hit at some point of time, it may hurt but these are the bowlers who need to step up one final time. (On Faf du Plessis' knock) Dhoni replies that's where the experience counts. Quotes 'you need to train the mind more than the body' and you can come to use when handed the opportunity. Adds that Faf batted really well and hopes that he continues in the final also. Proudly says that they are a good team and it reflects the dressing room atmosphere that they create and thanks the support staff also.
  • Kane Williamson is disappointed and says that the trip to Kolkata will be interesting. Adds that they were short by a few runs. Praises his bowlers and feels that the game swung in their way but then is quick to admit that they weren't at their best towards the end. Feels that most times they would have defended that total but credits the lower order of Chennai. Hopes that they will learn from this game and move to the next match. Lauds the knock of Faf du Plessis and reckons it's going to be hard work for them in Kolkata.
  • Hyderabad were maybe 15-20 runs short. Though, despite that, they were exceptional with the ball tonight. Started off well, restricted Chennai to 62/6 and were right on top, but such is this format where the margin for error is less. The Brathwaite over stole the momentum from them. Siddarth Kaul too got taken for runs in the next over, thereby seeing them miss out. Rashid Khan in particular was the standout performer, conceding just 11 runs and picking up 2 wickets in his spell. Earlier in the evening, Brathwaite powered his team close to 140, but a clinical performance for the most part from the Chennai bowlers did just enough to help their batters gun the target down.
  • What a game. Chennai have defeated Hyderabad for the third time this season to storm into the finals. Ambati Rayudu did one over them twice, and now, it's Faf du Plessis who becomes the star of the show. Talk about the perfect timing to find some form. Chennai lost their way early chasing 140, and were staring down the barrel of a defeat. Things almost slipped out of their hands till that Carlos Brathwaite over in the 18th, where 23 runs were scored from it by Faf. That completely changed the tide and along with Shardul Thakur in the end, the Protea got his side over the line with a well-deserved fifty.
  • 19.1SIX! Faf du Plessis has finished the game in one blow! Kumar relies on his slower knuckle delivery first up, drops it on a length around off but Faf picks it up and lofts it nonchalantly over the bowler's head for a maximum. The South African raises his hands in triumph as his teammates come running from the dugout. Emotions pouring out in the middle as the players in yellow are jumping and hugging each other. What a win! What a game! Chennai win by 2 wickets and are in the final!
  • 6 needed off 6 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to bowl. Faf du Plessis will be on strike.
  • 18.6FOUR! Shardul Thakur, the Mumbai lad, is doing it! Kaul delivers it full and on middle, Shardul smashes it straight down the ground and the long on fielder has no chance of cutting it off. He is playing a gem. Remember, he was taken for 20 runs in his last over while bowling and this is the best possible way to pay back. 134/8
  • 18.5Very full and around off, Thakur drills it down to long off and rushes back for the second run. The throw comes to the bowler who fails to collect it as du Plessis whizzes past the crease. Great running.
  • 18.4Goes back and punches it through covers for one.
  • 18.4Wide! The attempted slower delivery has gone wrong, it's too wide outside off. Du Plessis leaves it.
  • 18.3Fullish and outside off, chipped over the bowler's head for a single. 9 from 3 by Shardul, great hand in the context of this chase.
  • 18.2FOUR! Another streaky boundary, the crowd here in Mumbai is loving it. The famous Chinese cut. Unintentional, of course. On a good length around middle, 134.2 kph, Thakur tries playing it firmly down the ground but it takes the inside half of the bat and this time speeds past the left side of the keeper. A boundary at fine leg.
  • 18.1FOUR! EDGY! But Chennai won't mind how they come as long as they come. A low full toss outside off, Thakur tries to keep it out but ends up edging it past the diving keeper for a boundary at third man.
  • Siddarth Kaul is back on.
  • 17.6FOUR! That's rocketed to the fence. Fullish and outside off, Faf bludgeons it through cover-point and finds the rope. 20 from the over, 23 needed off 12 balls. 117/8
  • Shardul Thakur comes out next.
  • 17.5OUT! Harbhajan is short! The delivery is full and outside off, once again du Plessis drills it to deep extra cover and this time there is a fielder positioned there. Rashid Khan it is and he dives to make the stop. Then, he stands up to fire a flat throw to the bowler who takes the bails off. They appeal and the umpire goes upstairs. The replays find Harbhajan Singh short of the crease. Also, Rashid Khan seems to have hurt himself and is receiving some medical attention near the boundary line.
  • Appeal for a run out! Harbhajan Singh seems to be in danger here while attempting the second run.
  • 17.4FOUR! Chennai are up and running! The change of pace has not worked here. It's on the shorter side and du Plessis pulls it off the inner half of the bat. It beats short fine leg to his left and speeds away to the fence.
  • 17.3SIX! Fifty for Faf, his 9th in the League. Talk about the timing of this innings. His team is down and almost out but the Protea is refusing to give up. Fetches a length ball from the middle and leg stump line and deposits it into the mid-wicket stands.
  • 17.2FOUR! Faf continues to fight a lone battle! Gets a full delivery in the channel outside off and he plunders it over extra cover for a boundary. 38 needed off 16 balls.
  • 17.1An off pace delivery, on a length outside off, Harbhajan opens up for a big shot but only manages to drag it down off the inner portion of the bat. It goes to long on and they cross for a single.
  • Carlos Brathwaite is back on.
  • 16.6Slower delivery, on the shorter side around off, Harbhajan gets inside the crease and turns it through square leg for a run. 97/7
  • 16.5A perfect yorker outside off, Harbhajan tries directing it down towards third man but is beaten for pace.
  • 16.4Du Plessis steps down the track to take it on the full and drives it firmly towards extra cover. Williamson makes a tumbling stop and the batsmen cross.
  • 16.3Pacy delivery, 136.1 kph. Sliding down the leg side and Harbhajan fails to work it off his pads. They cross for a leg bye.
  • 16.2Play and a miss! A knuckle delivery outside off, Harbhajan throws his bat at it early and hence misses.
  • 16.1Angling into the batsman, du Plessis chips it down the ground and it goes on one bounce to the fielder in the deep at long on. A single taken.
  • Siddarth Kaul is back into the attack.
  • 15.6Turning away from the batsman, Bhajji pushes at it and misses. End of Rashid's spell, 4-0-11-2! Left his impact. 47 needed off 24 balls. 93/7
  • 15.5Googly landing around off, Harbhajan picks it and defends it solidly off his front foot.
  • 15.4Gets forward to a full ball and pushes it to covers.
  • 15.3Harbhajan has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. Seeing Rashid off will be the plan here.
  • 15.2Flighted and on off, driven through the line towards mid off for a run.
  • 15.1Not out, it's missing the leg stump! Rashid's well-disguised googly ain't picked by du Plessis. He leans forward to defend but is beaten to get rapped on the pads. The appeal is upheld but Faf quickly takes the DRS. The replays confirm what I said earlier. Turning too much and missing the leg pole. Hyderabad trying to build relentless pressure now.
  • Review taken. It's for an lbw decision against Faf du Plessis. The Protea has taken it upstairs, thinking it's going down leg. Let's see now...
  • Harbhajan Singh will be the next batsman in. He didn't get to bowl a single ball in the first innings, can he make an impact with the bat?
  • 14.6OUT! It's a clean catch! Sandeep arrows in a fuller length ball, on middle, Chahar swings his bat across the line, although with limited followthrough of the bat, you can call it half-helicopter and as a result, the ball also flies only half the distance. It loops towards long on where Brathwaite comes running in forward and across to take a low catch. However, he is not too sure whether he has taken it cleanly or not and the umpires go upstairs. The soft signal is out. The replays now roll in and they show that Brathwaite has his fingers under the ball. Chahar has to continue walking off the park. A handy partnership is broken and Hyderabad will be delighted. 92/7
  • Deepak Chahar has holed out in the deep to Carlos Brathwaite. Though, the umpire isn't sure if the catch is taken cleanly or not. It's taken upstairs. The soft signal is out.
  • 14.5A miscued shot. Sharma's slower one is not picked by the South African who closes the face of his bat early. It comes out off the leading edge and rolls to covers for one.
  • 14.4FOUR! Bang! This one is full and outside off, du Plessis climbs onto the room and thwacks it over extra cover for a boundary. These two are doing it for Chennai.
  • 14.3Lands it on a length outside off, on the slower side, du Plessis throws his bat at it but fails to middle his shot. It rolls back to the bowler.
  • 14.2Nearly a yorker around off, Chahar drills it down to long off for a single.
  • 14.1SIX! Chahar has pulled this one out of screws. Anticipates the shortish ball and goes through with the swing of his bat. Not quite from the middle of the bat but still it has enough to fly over the fence. The umpire signals a biggie after getting the confirmation from upstairs.
  • Strategic break. 60 needed off 36 balls. This is still doable if Faf du Plessis gets some support from the other end. Hyderabad cannot afford to take the foot off the pedal. It's a pretty notorious format and the moment you relax, unexpected things happen.
  • 13.6SIX! The South African is breaking the shackles. Gets a full delivery in his half, gives it the full whack of his bat and sends it whistling over the rope at long on. 14 from the over. 80/6
  • 13.5FOUR! Misfield in the deep! Shakib once again is on the shorter side, around middle and leg, du Plessis goes deep inside the crease and smacks it towards wide long on. Pandey runs across to his left from deep mid-wicket, puts in a dive to stop it but the ball still manages to get deflected towards the rope. The long off fielder in the meantime overran there and had no chance of cutting it off either.
  • 13.4Flatter and on middle, nudged towards mid on and Shakib himself ran after it. A single taken.
  • 13.3Fires this flat and on middle, du Plessis knocks it down to long on for one.
  • 13.2Loopy and full, on off, Chahar drives it down the ground to long off and rotates the strike.
  • 13.1Flighted but too full on off, it's driven through covers for a run.
  • Shakib Al Hasan is back into the attack.
  • 12.6Played to the point region by the batsman. They pick up a single. 66/6
  • 12.5Slower one on the fuller side, du Plessis flicks it through mid-wicket for a brace.
  • 12.4Taps it down in the gap at covers for a run.
  • Deepak Chahar arrives. He showed his batting talent in the last game and Chennai need him to come good today as well and stay with du Plessis.
  • 12.3OUT! Soft dismissal! Sandeep Sharma hurls across a knuckle delivery, just outside off, Jadeja attempts to work it across the line but ends up chipping a straightforward catch to the bowler. Sandeep jumps to take the catch and tosses the ball up in celebration. Orange all over yellow like a rash! 78 needed off 45 balls.
  • 12.2Nice delivery, lands it on a length around off and gets it to shape back into the batsman. Jadeja doesn't get enough room to work with and hence blocks it on the off side.
  • 12.1Slower length ball on middle and leg, Faf helps it in front of square leg and crosses.
  • Sandeep Sharma is back on.
  • 11.6Turning back into the batsman from around middle, Jadeja tries to defend but misses to get hit on the pads. Appeal for an lbw by the bowler but nothing from the umpire. Maybe spinning too much and would have missed the leg stump. 61/5
  • 11.5Quicker by Rashid, it's short and outside off, Faf goes back and punches it through cover-point for a run.
  • 11.4Bowls a googly with a quicker arm action, it's around off and Jadeja lunges to push it square of the wicket on the off side. A single taken.
  • 11.3Tossed up ball on middle, on the fuller side, Jadeja nudges it through square leg and gets off the mark with a couple.
  • Ravindra Jadeja in next.
  • 11.2OUT! Rashid Khan strikes again! What a bowler! The Afghan jalebi consumes the West Indian entertainer! A leg spinner, landing short outside off and turning away, Bravo spots the chance to slap it over the off side but doesn't account for the spin. He swings his bat only to find the ball taking the outside half of it. Dhawan makes no mistake at first slip and Chennai slip further.
  • 11.1A bit short and on off, Faf gets back and works it through mid-wicket for a single.
  • Rashid Khan is back on the field and will continue with his spell.
  • 10.6Backs away to this short ball and whips it to deep mid-wicket for a run. 84 in 54 now. The game still very much in the balance. 56/4
  • 10.5Driven towards the mid off region. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 10.4Driven through mid off this time. The result is the same. A single.

  • Rashid Khan is going off the field. Not sure why but he was seen receiving some medical attention. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan comes into the attack.
  • 9.6Nobody is picking him up tonight. Sensational bowling from Rashid Khan. It's the googly again, Bravo swings hard and gets an inside edge past the leg stump. Single collected. 50/4
  • 9.5Full on leg, drifting in, Bravo is caught on the pads.
  • 9.4The googly again, Faf is a bit cautious as he moves ahead to drive. Gets an inside edge towards short fine leg for a single.
  • 9.3Dropped! Difficult chance though. Rashid darts the leg break full and fast outside off, spins away ever so slightly and takes the edge behind as Faf looks to drive. Goswami gets low, but can't keep a hold of it.
  • 9.2The leg break this time, outside off, steered with an angled bat to short third man.
  • 9.1A bit too full on off, spins in a touch, worked from the inner portion to short mid-wicket.
  • Strategic break.
  • 8.6Length ball which kicks off the surface, cuts back in too which catches Bravo, who moves across his sticks, on the thigh pad. Muted appeal, but no way that's going to be given out. 48/4
  • 8.5Shorter outside off, punched square on the off side for a run.
  • 8.4SIX! Has enough on this to send it all the way. Needed that one. Short ball on middle and leg, du Plessis positions himself well and muscles the pull over backward square leg. Just about clears the man in the deep and that's a biggie.
  • 8.3Back of a length coming back in, catches du Plessis on the thigh pad who misses the flick shot.
  • 8.2Bangs it in on a shorter length, hurries onto du Plessis which forces him into the pull too early. Mistimes it to mid-wicket.
  • 8.1Serves this length delivery outside off, run down to third man for a single.
  • 7.6Bravo gets off the mark with a back foot punch to sweeper cover. Single taken. 3 runs and the massive wicket of Dhoni from this over. Could be the game changer. 40/4
  • 7.5The wrong 'un once more, on middle stump this time, Bravo looks to flick but it goes off the pad. No appeal as such as it was going down leg.
  • Dwayne Bravo comes out to bat.
  • 7.4OUT! Hello. Hello! Here we go! MS Dhoni is gone. Absolute jaffa from Rashid Khan. Great decision from Kane Williamson to bring on his prime bowler. The googly again around off, Dhoni doesn't pick it up as he comes forward to push it away from his body. It goes right through the big gate and disturbs the stumps. 101 needed in 74 balls.
  • 7.3The googly from Rashid, loops it up on middle and off. Faf prods forward and meets it with the full face of the bat. Pushes it to mid on and takes a single.
  • 7.2Quicker through the air again, a touch fuller in length, Dhoni drives this square through backward point and crosses over.
  • 7.1Short, quick and outside off, Dhoni stays back and forces it to the man at extra cover.
  • Rashid Khan into the attack. His spell could decide in which direction this match heads.
  • 6.6The batsman appears to have been struck on the thigh pad. One run added to the total. Leg byes signalled by the umpire. 37/3
  • 6.5Worked to point again by the Chennai skipper. No run taken.
  • 6.4Outside off, punched to cover-point without much timing.
  • 6.3Cutting back in on middle and leg, gently worked past square leg for a run.
  • 6.2Take a bow, Manish Pandey. All these runs saved could be vital in the end. Du Plessis slaps this to the right of point, where Pandey runs and dives at full stretch to stop it.
  • 6.1On the shorter side of the length, Dhoni looks to work it on the leg side but gets an inside edge onto his pads. It rolls over to square leg and a single is taken.
  • 6.1Wide! Bit of a false start from Brathwaite. Angles it down the leg side, Dhoni looks to flick but misses.
  • Carlos Brathwaite into the bowling attack.
  • 5.6Just outside off, on a length, dabbed to backward point. Wanted the single but then decides against it. 107 to win in 84 balls. 33/3
  • 5.5Pulled again, albeit with not much control on this occasion. A single results.
  • 5.4FOUR! In perfect control of that one. Well done. Short into the body, Dhoni swivels and pulls it through backward square leg, beating the man in the deep.
  • 5.3Full on off, Dhoni looks to play the cover drive but gets an inside edge down to fine leg past the leg stump. Two runs taken.
  • 5.2Another one left alone by Dhoni. In the channel outside off, no shot offered.
  • 5.1Superb effort from Shakib Al Hasan. Faf flicks this full length ball to mid-wicket where the fielder dives to his left and makes a half-stop. Keeps the batsmen to just a single.
  • 4.6The batsman chooses to leave the ball outside his off stump. 25/3
  • 4.5Full this time, swinging in from outside off, Dhoni shuffles across and lets it be.
  • 4.4Short and wide outside off, left alone by MS.
  • 4.3Back of a length, outside off, pushed away from the body on the off side.
  • 4.2Just behind a length, cutting back in on off, Dhoni jumps across to work it on the leg side but gets rapped on the thigh pads.
  • 4.1Du Plessis pushes this full delivery towards mid on and takes the throw on. Wouldn't have mattered even if there was a direct hit as the Protea was quick to get to the other end.
  • 3.6Dot ball to end the over. Superb stuff from Siddarth Kaul, 4 runs and 2 wickets from it. Keeps it full as Dhoni flicks it away on the leg side. 24/3
  • 3.5No hat-trick for Kaul. Full on off, Dhoni is careful as he pushes this out off the front foot.
  • MS Dhoni is the new man in.
  • 3.4OUT! Gozunder! Siddarth Kaul on a hat-trick. What an unreal delivery to dismiss the prolific Ambati Rayudu. Couldn't do a single thing about that. It's a terrific yorker, swings away late and does enough to beat the outside edge of the bat. The ball crashes into the furniture and Hyderabad are right in this game now.
  • Ambati Rayudu walks into the middle next.
  • 3.3OUT! Raina departs! His nice little cameo comes to an end. Hyderabad needed this. Length ball on leg, Raina shuffles across a bit too much as he looks to flick. Misses it altogether and the stumps are rattled. Kaul gets the breakthrough, the dangerous southpaw is out of here.
  • 3.2FOUR! Full toss from Kaul, Raina drives this square past point and finds the fence with ease.
  • 3.1Raina could have been gone there. Bit lazy from him. Yorker around leg, Raina backs away and steers it to backward point. Pandey has a shy at the striker's end seeing Suresh being a bit sloppy to get back in, but misses. Had he hit, Raina was gone.
  • Siddarth Kaul comes into the bowling attack.
  • 2.6Short of a good length on middle and off, Raina hops and wrists it to mid on for a brisk single. 20/1
  • 2.6Wide! Kumar switches the angle and angles it down the leg side, Raina flicks and misses.
  • 2.5Bhuvi with a full length delivery well outside off, swinging away, it's played off the outer half to third man. Faf is off the mark with a single.
  • 2.4Behind a length, on the fourth stump line, worked down on the leg side. Another dot.
  • 2.3Back of a length angling back in, Faf is a bit cramped for room as he punches it down in front of mid-wicket.
  • 2.2Nudged square again on the leg side for a single. It finally brings Faf du Plessis on strike who will face his first ball of the chase.
  • 2.1Back of a length on off stump, Raina hops across and with a little swivel, controls the pull to deep square leg for a couple.
  • 1.6On the pads this time, whipped down to fine leg for an easy run. 13 off the over. 14/1
  • 1.5Fraction straight on middle and leg, worked away on the leg side.
  • 1.4Good length delivery outside the line of off stump, left alone for the keeper to collect.
  • 1.3FOUR! Three in a row! This is exceptional batting from Suresh Raina. Sandeep keeps it full and just outside off, it's driven down the ground, past mid off for a boundary.
  • 1.2FOUR! Raina off to a flying start! A lot of swing here from Sandeep, fuller outside off, it's creamed through the covers off the front foot for another boundary.
  • 1.1FOUR! Full and wide outside off, Raina reaches out to it and hits it a bit square past cover-point for a boundary.
  • Sandeep Sharma to bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6Fuller and curling back in on middle, Raina clips it off the pads through square leg for a single to end the first over. Just a single and a wicket off it. 1/1
  • Suresh Raina is the new man in.
  • 0.5OUT! Bhuvi finds the edge and it's given! Big blow to Chennai as they lose Watson for a duck! What a delivery, absolute peach! Kumar lands it on a length around that off stump channel, Watson with minimal feet movement has a tame poke at it. The ball moves away ever so slightly, takes the outer half and Goswami behind the stumps makes no mistake. Perfect start for Hyderabad in the chase.
  • 0.4Drops it a touch short and serves it outside off, Watson punches it towards mid off.
  • 0.3Slightly ahead of a length outside off, neatly punched towards cover.
  • 0.2Huge shout for an LBW! After an outswinger, Bhuvi brings this one back in sharply, Watson is quick to go back and luckily for him he gets an inside edge on the back pad.
  • 0.1Play and a miss first up! Fuller delivery, swinging away a bit, Watson leans ahead to defend it with a straight bat but the ball moves away and whizzes past the outside edge of his bat.
  • We are back for the chase. Chennai have a below par target to chase down, as Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis stride out to the middle. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will open with the ball. His spell in the Powerplay will be key. A slip in place for him...
