  • We're done with the action for today. We witnessed a couple of high scoring games and both Rajasthan and Punjab got a win under their belt. Kolkata and Delhi will be in action on Monday at 2000 IST. We look forward to your company then. Cheers!
  • Chris Gayle is chosen for the Man of the Match award. His scintillating knock shell-shocked Chennai at the beginning as he went hammer and tongs from the word go. A knock studded with 7 fours and 4 sixes was a real treat for the cricket lovers. He is back. The Universe Boss is back.
  • One should avoid talking about the performance of the bowlers when close to 400 runs are hit in a match. But, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Ravichandran Ashwin were exceptional with the ball when the rest were taking a pasting. The fielding was also up to the mark and altogether a good team performance to earn a win. Earlier, their batsmen set up the game nicely for them by posting a big total but could have done even better with their finishing.
  • At one moment, it felt like Punjab will complete an easy win but then, the duo of Dhoni and Jadeja started to counterattack. Their 28-ball 50 stand took the chase deep and after that Dhoni took things under his control. He hammered 28 runs off 9 balls in the 30-run unbeaten partnership with Bravo and nearly stole victory from the jaws of defeat.
  • Chasing a big target, Chennai needed to start big. But that didn't happen. They lost both their openers cheaply and then the hero of the last match, Sam Billings also departed without giving much contribution. With their back to the wall, MS Dhoni joined Ambati Rayudu in the middle and together the pair tried to bring the chase back on track with a 57-run stand. Although, it didn't come at a rate which was needed.
  • Phew! Another cracking contest which went right down to the wire. It was vintage stuff from MS Dhoni as the Captain Cool nearly took his team over the line. What entertainment! The crowd here got its money's worth. Great scenes out there. The players are exchanging pleasantries. Punjab will be feeling really lucky that they had just enough on the board. After braving in their last two games, Chennai have fallen short of the target today. Also, yet another team has successfully defended the total which is against the norm this season.
  • 19.6SIX! Biggie to finish but it is not enough! Mohit does bowl a legal ball and lands it full on middle. It is right in the zone for Dhoni as deposits it over the side screen for a maximum. PUNJAB WIN BY 4 RUNS!
  • 19.5No he can't! Mohit has more or less sealed it, unless he bowls an extra. Another full ball outside off, Dhoni squeezes it through point. There is a fielder in the deep and it goes towards him as he makes a tumbling stop. Dhoni does not run.
  • 19.4Dot! This is very full outside off, Dhoni can't squeeze it out and the umpire feels it is inside the tram line. 11 from two. He did hit two sixes off the last two balls to win a game against Axar Patel a few years back. Can he do it now?
  • 19.3FOUR! This will also do! Top shot from the Captain Marvellous. Very full and wide outside off, not a bad delivery. Dhoni opens the face off the bat and guides it through backward point and the ball races away.
  • 19.3WIDE! Pressure getting to Sharma here. He bowls this one wide, very wide and the umpire stretches his arms. 15 from 4.
  • 19.2Excellent delivery more importantly a dot! A wide yorker. Dhoni goes after it but misses. 16 in 4.
  • 19.1Very full and on the pads, Bravo flicks it through square leg and the batsmen cross over for a run. Dhoni on strike, 16 from 5. He has done it in the past, not once but many a times. Can he do it again?
  • 17 needed off 6 balls! A similar equation like the last game for Chennai. Can they do it again? Mohit Sharma has been given the ball. Pressure on him.
  • 18.6SIX! Make that 17 from the last over! A full toss just what Dhoni wanted at this stage and he sends it sailing over the mid-wicket fence for a maximum. 19 from this over. Game on! 181/5
  • 18.5A double now! 23 needed from 7. A low full toss outside off, Dhoni mistimes it towards covers for a couple.
  • 18.4FOUR! Using his brain here is Dhoni! Sees the ball is short, picks his spot and upper cuts it over the short third man fielder for a boundary. 25 needed from 8.
  • 18.3SIX! Bang! What a sound that made off the bat! Length ball on off, Dhoni swings hard and he gets it over the mid-wicket fence for a huge one.
  • Dwayne Bravo walks out to the middle.
  • 18.2OUT! Jadeja holes out! He had to go for it. Tye bowls a full ball on off, Ravindra tries to go big but only manages to hit it up in the air towards extra cover. The skipper, Ashwin there settles under it and takes it. The cameo from Jadeja comes to an end, 35 from 10 needed.
  • 18.1Dhoni gets it in his arc. Full and on off, he however hits it towards long on for a run.
  • 17.6SIX! Finishes the over in style! 19 from it! Full and it is the slower one on middle. Jadeja tonks it over long on and it travels all the way. 36 needed in 12. 162/4
  • 17.5This one was bowled wide outside off, clever by Sharma. Dhoni reaches out to it and gets it off the toe end of the bat towards mid off for a run. It brings up his fifty, his 18th in the Indian T20 League. It has been a good innings by him but can he finish it off?
  • 17.4SIX! There is one off them! This is HUGEEE! Full and on middle, Dhoni lines it up and sends it sailing over the long on fence. 2 balls to go they need more. 43 from 14.
  • 17.3Slower ball outside off, Jadeja gets it off the inner half towards long off for a run. Singles won't do here. They need some biggies.
  • 17.2Full and on middle, Dhoni hits it towards long off for a run.
  • 17.1DROPPED AND FOUR! That has been misjudged! A full toss on middle, Dhoni flicks it towards mid-wicket. Mayank Dagar the substitute in the deep seems to have misjudged it and at the very last moment dives forward to take it but the ball just brushes his fingers and goes into the ropes. A boundary early in the over, can this be the big one Chennai need?
  • Mohit Sharma back on.
  • 16.6FOUR! Jadeja joins the action! He makes room and cuts this length ball over point for a boundary. 12 from the over. 55 needed from 3 overs. 143/4
  • 16.5Punjab will be happy conceding this single as Dhoni powers it towards long off for a run.
  • 16.4FOUR! Just short! Vintage Dhoni there. That was hit with brute force. He comes down the track and gets a ball outside off. He slaps it over extra cover and the ball races away. They need to finish this over well here.
  • 16.4This one was short and wide outside off, Dhoni lets it be and the ball is called a wide.
  • 16.3Comes down the track and pull it towards fine leg for a run. Just 2 from the first three balls.
  • 16.2That almost took Jadeja's head off. Full and on middle, Dhoni hits it hard towards the non-striker who moves away and the ball goes down to long on for a run.
  • 16.1Excellent slower one, dot to start. Full and outside off, Dhoni tries to drive it through the off side but gets beaten.
  • Andrew Tye comes back into the attack.
  • 15.6Drills it through covers and crosses for a couple of times. The throw comes to the bowler's end, it could have been tight but Sran slips while getting back and Dhoni reaches safely. 131/4
  • 15.5Plays a very full ball down to point and looks for a run. Dhoni sends him back and Yuvraj misses his shy at the striker's end.
  • 15.4Short on middle, a mistimed pull by Jadeja and it goes through square leg for a brace.
  • 15.4Wide! Way outside off, Jadeja allows it through.
  • 15.3Safely in. A delivery on the pads has been worked through square leg and Jadeja scampers back for the second run. Mujeeb with a flat throw to the keeper who flicks it onto the stumps. He appeals, the third umpire is troubled but the replays find Jadeja well in.
  • Run out appeal has been taken upstairs...
  • 15.3Wide! Drifting down the leg side, Jadeja fails to get any bat behind it.
  • 15.2Width on offer outside off, Jadeja swings and misses.
  • 15.1Angling away from the batsman, Dhoni stays back and hits it to sweeper cover for one.
  • 14.6Quicker one, drifting down, Dhoni fails to work it around and it goes off his pads to square leg. They cross. 122/4
  • 14.5The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single.
  • 14.4Remains on the back foot and forces it down to long off for one.
  • 14.3SIX! Smoked away! Ashwin flights this one and lands it full on middle, MS sits down on one knee and launches it handsomely over mid-wicket for a biggie.
  • 14.2Flatter and outside off, Dhoni punches it off his back foot to covers.
  • 14.1Quicker one, darted in on middle and leg, spinning down, Dhoni tries to flick but misses. It hits him on the pads, Ashwin lets out an ambitious appeal for an lbw, obviously not given. Would have hit the sixth stump had it been there.
  • 13.6Slower ball on middle, Jadeja works it towards mid-wicket. He wants a run but is sent back. Just six and a wicket from this over. 113/4
  • 13.5Back of a length on off, Jadeja guides it to point.
  • Ravindra Jadeja is the next man in.
  • 13.4OUT! Direct hit and surprise, surprise it is Ashwin who scores the bull's eye. Look at him, he is pumped up, running around in celebration. Rayudu departs courtesy a run out. The last thing Chennai wanted. He comes down the track and pushes it towards covers. Rayudu wants a run but is sent back by Dhoni. He is half-way down the track and now turns to get back. Ashwin collects the ball and hits the stumps at the striker's end and Rayudu is well short. End of the 57-run stand and the well-set Rayudu falls one short of a 50. 85 more needed, Chennai remain on the back foot.
  • 13.3That is clever bowling! Rayudu comes down the track and Sran bowls a slower one. Ambati is completely foxed and lets it through to the keeper.
  • 13.2SIX! Excellent shot! This was needed, this was coming to be honest. Rayudu gets into position early and gets the ball where he wanted. Length and on middle, he sends it sailing over the backward square leg fence for a biggie. They need to keep going here.
  • 13.1Rayudu comes down the track and Sran bowls it short. Rayudu hits it uppishly back towards the bowler and it falls just short.
  • Barinder Sran is back on.
  • 12.6Comes down the track and eases it down to long off for a run to bring up the 50-run stand. Something though has to give in here, 91 needed in 7 overs. Nudging it around won't do. 107/3
  • 12.5Once again only a single! As Dhoni pushes it through covers for a run.
  • 12.4The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. They pick up a single.
  • 12.3Flatter on middle, Dhoni misses the flick to get hit on the pads. The players appeal but the umpire shakes his head. The ball rolls towards point and the batsmen run a leg bye.
  • Dhoni was seen taking a message on his back. He has had problems with his lower back. He is fine to continue.
  • 12.2Uses his feet and drives it through covers for a run.
  • 12.1Shorter in length on off, Dhoni cuts it towards point but only a single.

  • 7.1Loopy ball on off, Rayudu drives it through covers and takes a run.
  • Surprise! Yuvraj Singh has been given the ball. Ashwin had promised to be innovative with his captaincy and is certainly living up to it. With MS Dhoni in the middle, it's a good move. Of late, he has struggled to get going against the spinners at the start of his innings.
  • 6.6Works it with the angle towards square leg for a run. 58/3
  • 6.5Tosses it up on off, Dhoni drives it through mid off for a run.
  • MS Dhoni is the next man in.
  • 6.4OUT! Excellent use of the review by Ashwin, he was adamant that was pad and he has got it spot on. Billings walks across and goes for the sweep shot to a very full delivery on midde. It seemed to have taken the bat as it races away to the fine leg fence and the umpire feels the same as he signals a boundary. Ashwin though goes to his keeper and has a chat and then reviews. Time for the replays and it shows no bat involved and three reds. The on-field call has to be overturned and Billings has been given his marching orders. A huge wicket, the hero of Chennai's last game is walking back and the woes deepen further for the visitors.

  • Sam Billings walks out to the middle.
  • 4.1OUT! In the air... taken! Tye strikes off his first ball and the bowling change has worked wonders. It is the slower ball which does the trick. Vijay comes down the track and tries to go over covers. He is way early into the shot and only manages to sky it towards mid off. Sran there settles under it and takes it easily. Not easy when it goes so high up in the air. So Vijay's short stay out there ends and Chennai are in a spot of bother here. 159 more needed.
  • Andrew Tye comes into the attack.
  • 3.6On the pads, Vijay mistimes his flick towards square leg for a run. Another good over for Chennai, a good start for them without playing any wild shot. 39/1

  • 2.4On middle, nudged around the corner for a run.
  • 2.3FOUR! What timing! Even though the fielder got a hand to it he could not stop it from reaching the fence. Full and on off, Rayudu strokes it towards mid off. The fielder there runs to his right, dives and gets a hand to it but can't stop it from reaching the fence. Rayudu is off the mark in style.
  • 2.2Slower ball on off, Vijay taps it towards cover for a quick run.
  • 2.1Moves away, Sran follows him. Vijay tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads.
  • Ambati Rayudu walks out to the middle.
  • 1.6OUT! Soft, soft dismissal there! Watson will be kicking himself for playing that shot. The slower ball on leg stump, 106.1 kph, Watson tries to nudge it on the leg side but he gets a top edge which balloons towards short fine leg. Sran there positions himself under it and takes a very easy catch. An early wicket for Punjab and they are ecstatic. The power-house Watson walks back early. Two boundaries and a wicket in this over. 17/1
  • 1.5Once again tries to find the gap between point and short third man but hits it to the man at the former position.
  • 1.4Once again on a length and just outside off, Watson guides it to point. That raced off the bat, the ball is just skidding on.
  • 1.3FOUR! Slightest of room and with third man up, never a good idea. Just outside off, Watson does the smart thing by guiding it past that diving fielder for a boundary. Back-to-back!
  • 1.2FOUR! First boundary and it comes off the bat of Watson. You just have to clear the infield on this ground. Full and on off, Watson drives it over point and the ball races away.
  • 1.1Starts off with a fuller ball on off, Watson drives it towards covers.
  • Mohit Sharma will bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6On the pads again, Watson flicks it towards short fine leg for a quick run. So end of a long, long first over. 9 from it. 9/0
  • 0.5On the pads, Vijay tucks it around the corner for a run.
  • 0.4Good stop! Short and wide outside off, Watson cuts it towards third man. Mujeeb there runs to his right, sticks a hand out and saves three for his side.
  • 0.3Good delivery! Fuller on middle, swinging back in. Vijay misses the flick and gets hit on the pads. The ball rolls towards square leg and the batsmen run a leg bye. The bowler was appealing but the umpire shakes his head.
  • 0.2Shorter in length on off, Vijay pushes it to cover-point.
  • 0.2Another wide! Down the leg side and the umpire signals a wide. Not got his length right here Sran.
  • 0.1Back of a length on off, Watson defends it towards point and gets off the mark with that.
  • 0.1Runs early on! Three to be precise without a ball being bowled! Down the leg side. Rahul fails to collect it cleanly as the ball rolls towards the fine leg fence. Gayle runs behind it and the batsmen take two. It is also called a wide.
  • We are back for the chase! 198 is the target. Shane Watson and Murali Vijay will open the batting for Chennai. A new batting combination up front for the visitors. They will hope for it to work. Barinder Sran will open the bowling for Punjab. Here we go...
