  • Okay! Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Rajasthan are our final four. Surprised? Definitely. Not seeing Mumbai over there does raise questions. But well done to the other teams. The first two have been consistent, which is why they get two bites of the same cherry. Hyderabad and Chennai face off in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 1330 GMT (1900 local). The winner moves to the final while the loser gets another chance - awaiting the winner of the Kolkata-Rajasthan clash in the Eliminator in Kolkata on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 1330 GMT (1900 local). Join us for the clashes! ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • LUNGI NGIDI has been named the MAN OF THE MATCH for his 4/10 with the ball. Says that he really enjoyed bowling tonight and on seeing Chahar's opening over, he was grinning and eager to bowl. Praises MS Dhoni for his cricketing brain and credits him for helping him develop as an individual.
  • Victorious Chennai skipper Dhoni has a reason for the experiment of sending pinch-hitters. He says that the ball was swinging and Punjab were concentrating on getting the wickets. At such stages, when a pinch-hitter is sent, it creates a chaos and that is exactly what happened. On Chennai's unbroken record of making it to the Playoffs every season, MS credits the team management and the support staff. Says that having the same core unit does help. Maybe after 2 years that core will dissipate but these 10 years have been great for the franchise he says. On Chennai's success, he says that every side has highs and lows, just that on that particular day, one needs to be at his best. But if things do not go your way, then you need to accept your fate as well.
  • Sad way for Punjab to exit. Their bowling made a match of it in the Powerplay but once the ball got older, they found it difficult to control the proceedings. Rajpoot was superb but the leading wicket-taker Andrew Tye struggled big time. Earlier in the evening, another poor batting performance from Punjab saw them scrape past 150. Karun Nair gave them some respect but otherwise, it was a shoddy effort. They had no answer to Lungi Ngidi as he was superb tonight. Time for the presentation...
  • One might question Dhoni's tactics of sending two pinch-hitters at the top, but given that they had one foot already in the Playoffs, their management will not mind. And Chahar's promotion did pay off.
  • A comfortable win for Chennai, even though the scorecard does not show it. They were rocked early in a chase of a modest 154 but they experimented as well. Harbhajan was dropped on 0 and that could have cost them had the catch been taken. But Bhajji and later Deepak Chahar's cameo along with Raina's finesse took Chennai home.
  • 'ALL-ROUNDER' Deepak Chahar is in next for an interview. Says that he was lucky to have got an opportunity to get to bat tonight and he made full use of it. On the bowling, he says that the ball was swinging early on and he just ensured that he landed the ball in the right areas. Agrees that his own confidence and that of the team is sky high. On his improvement in his career, Deepak says that before this tournament, he was a slow bowler but in this league, he has upped his pace. Clarifies that SHANE WATSON WAS RESTED TONIGHT and is not injured. Further says that he too, would have been rested had Kolkata lost their final game to Hyderabad.
  • Punjab captain, Ravichandran Ashwin sighs on having yet another poor day in the office. Reckons that the batting was the area where the game was lost and credits Karun Nair for making a match out of it. Praises his bowling and wishes that Aaron Finch had taken the catch of Harbhajan Singh. Admits that the middle and lower order has not contributed at all and in the second half of the season, the batting simply did not perform at all, not giving enough support to Lokesh Rahul. Also is blunt enough to say that Punjab have been sloppy in the field and the game against Bangalore was the one which hurt them a lot (where they lost by 10 wickets on May 14). On the road ahead, Ashwin manages the smile and says that it is a new franchise. So wants to sit down with his unit and spend some time with them as he believes that a good team atmosphere will produce good results in future.
  • 19.1SIX! Done and dusted on the first ball itself. A short ball, on middle, Dhoni swivels and pulls it over backward square leg! CHENNAI WIN BY 5 WICKETS WITH 5 BALLS TO SPARE!!!
  • So we go to the final over. 1 run needed. How about a maiden?
  • 18.6What an anti-climax. As if Katappa does not fight so that Baahubali gets the credit and finishes off the demon. Aaah... too filmy. Full and outside off, watchfully defended. Raina wants Dhoni to finish this off. So does the crowd. 153/5
  • 18.5FOUR! Toying with the bowling now. Another short ball, Raina pulls it past short fine leg for a boundary to level the scores!
  • 18.4MISFIELD! FOUR! A length ball outside off, Raina backs away and slices it towards cover. The fielder comes running in but in his excitement, overruns the ball and it goes past him!
  • 18.3SIX! A well-earned half century for Mr. Raina. Took his time and is now coming into his own. Gets a length ball and swats it right back over the bowler. Seems mistimed as that came off the bottom half of the bat. But the timing was such that it cleared long on.
  • 18.2Works it through mid-wicket and gets a brace now.
  • 18.1SIX! VIOLENCE! A short ball on middle, Raina pulls this over mid-wicket for a biggie! 17 more needed from 11 balls now.
  • Andrew Tye to bowl the 19th over.
  • 17.6FOUR! TONK! A short ball on middle, Dhoni pulls it over mid-wicket for a boundary. 131/5
  • 17.5A short ball on middle, SR miscues this pull but the ball does not carry to long on.
  • 17.4The batsman gets to the pitch of the ball and connects. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 17.3Thick inside edge by the batsman, ball goes down to fine leg. They pick up a single.
  • 17.2Top edge, but safe! A short ball on middle, Suresh swings hard but gets a top edge which does not carry to third man. A couple taken.
  • 17.2WIDE. A bouncer on middle. Too high and it is signalled a wide.
  • 17.1On middle and off, pushed down to long on for a single.
  • Pace is back. Mohit Sharma to bowl the 18th over.
  • 16.6Outside off, tapped towards short third man for a run. Ashwin is done for the night and the tournament - 4-0-36-2 in his final spell. 120/5
  • 16.5Short and outside off, Dhoni cuts it hard behind point. The ball seems destined to reach the fence but Axar Patel hares to his left from sweeper cover and dives and prevents the boundary. Two runs taken.
  • 16.4Goes back and calmly punches it towards long on for one more.
  • 16.3Full on middle, pushed towards long on for a run.
  • 16.2On off, pushed towards long off for a single. The crowd cheers as its hero gets the strike for the first time... 39 needed from 20 balls.
  • The Finisher is here to finish the final league match of the season...
  • 16.1OUT! No half century for Deepak. A slightly tossed up delivery outside off, pushed a bit wider outside off, Chahar swings hard but is a bit early into the shot. Gets a top edge which swirls in the air and is comfortably pouched by Mohit Sharma at short cover. Decent net session for Chahar.
  • 15.6Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. Two runs added to the total. 12 from the over. 114/4
  • 15.5The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. They pick up a single.
  • 15.4Short and outside off, cut away for a run.
  • 15.3Pushes this through long on for a single.
  • 15.2SIX! Well, well, well! Chahar is changing his mood now! Full and outside off, Chahar reaches out and sends this sailing over the sightscreen!
  • 15.1Full on middle, pushed through to long on for a single.
  • 14.6The batsman has played it towards mid-wicket. Two runs added to the total. The people in the Pink City can start to celebrate now. RAJASTHAN ARE THROUGH TO THE PLAYOFFS ALONG WITH HYDERABAD, CHENNAI AND KOLKATA! This match is now a formality. Can Punjab at least end their season with a win? 102/4
  • 14.5FOUR! Sliced away! A short ball outside off, Deepak slices this over cover and gets a boundary!
  • 14.4Driven through long off by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 14.3Full and outside off, pushed towards long on for a single.
  • 14.3WIDE. Goes even wider than the previous one and Deepak lets it be.
  • 14.2SIX! Another one! Full and outside off, a bit wide, Chahar reaches out and lofts it with ease over long off!
  • 14.1SIX! THWACK! Full and outside off, Chahar finally attacks and slog sweeps this over square leg for half a dozen.
  • 13.6Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman. One run added to the total. 81/4
  • 13.5Full and outside off, Deepak swings hard and gets a thick inside edge onto his pads.
  • 13.4Excellent effort! Full and outside off, Chahar swings it towards deep mid-wicket. Mohit Sharma has to take a split-second decision whether to go for the catch or save the boundary. He chooses the first option and dives in front. But because he took that extra second to decide, he gets late and the ball lands in front of him. Still, he does exceedingly well to prevent the boundary. Two runs taken.
  • 13.3Short and outside off, cut straight to short third man.
  • 13.2On middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for one.
  • 13.1Full on middle, Raina clips it through mid-wicket and hares back for the second.
  • Axar Patel is back on.
  • Final strategic break of the innings, match and night. Punjab are making things interesting in terms of this match. Not quite enough to make things interesting in terms of the Playoffs though. The rope to the final four is getting thinner and thinner and Chennai are rubbing salt on their wounds by sending in pinch-hitters. Clearly, Chennai are focussed on giving batting practice to all the players rather than try and win this game comprehensively.
  • 12.6Outside off, tapped towards point for an easy single. 75/4
  • 12.5On middle and leg, clipped towards short mid-wicket.
  • 12.4The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 12.3Full on middle, clipped towards mid-wicket for one.
  • 12.2Darted in on middle, clipped towards square leg for a run.
  • 12.1On a length outside off, punched towards cover for a single.
  • 11.6The batsman has played it to the point region. They manage to come back for the second. 72/4
  • 11.5One more single taken in that region towards long on.
  • 11.4On middle and leg, pushed towards long on for a run.
  • 11.3The batsman has driven it through mid on. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 11.2Outside off, dabbed to third man for a single.
  • 11.1A short ball on middle, Suresh plays the pull shot with his eyes closed and the shot is out of control. The ball goes in the air, but well wide of anyone towards square leg. A run taken.
  • 11.1WIDE. Down the leg side, flick shot missed. 89 needed from 39 balls to go on top for Chennai. Guess that is out of the window now.
  • Andrew Tye is back on.
  • 10.6Excellent running. Full and around off, Chahar wrists it towards deep mid-wicket. Initially they wanted only a single but somewhere in the middle of that run, one of the two batsmen shouted, 'CHAL! CHAL! CHAL!' and the single was doubled. 64/4
  • 10.5On middle and leg, punched down to long on for another single.
  • 10.4Make that three flicks in a row, resulting in three ones.
  • 10.3Another flick, another single.
  • 10.2The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. One run added to the total.
  • Who is in next? Any pinch-hitter? Yes Sir! Deepak Chahar.
  • 10.1OUT! Plumb LBW! The leg spinner from Ashwin to an offie, who does not read what is essentially the doosra. He goes for a wild swipe but misses and is hit right in front of the sticks. Ashwin appeals and up goes the umpire's finger. Harbhajan walks off, only to be called back by Raina for a discussion regarding the review. Not a big chat and Bhajji is on his way. Hawk Eye confirms that to be hitting the stumps.
  • Finally. The captain comes on to bowl.
  • 9.6Driven towards the mid on region. The batsmen have run through for a single. 58/3
  • 9.5The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. One run added to the total.
  • 9.4Full and outside off, Bhajji swings hard but misses. The keeper misses and the batsmen take a single.
  • 9.3On middle and leg, flicked away for a run.
  • 9.2The batsman has played it to the point region. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 9.1Full on middle, Raina flicks it towards fine leg for a single.
  • Time for a break taken by the bowling side. Punjab gave themselves a chance in the Powerplay, bowling with fire, but guess Chennai are in total control. Maybe they might struggle to win in 17.4 overs to go on top, but somewhere Shane Warne might be packing his bags to go to Kolkata...
  • 8.6The batsman has played it to the point region for a single. 52/3
  • 8.5On middle and leg, Raina hops and tucks it towards square leg.
  • 8.4On middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 8.3The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads for a single.
  • 8.3WIDE. Almost nicked it straight into Rahul's gloves. Short and outside off, angling away, Raina reaches out to guide it towards third man but misses.
  • 8.2Outside off, Bhajji mistimes his punch towards cover for a run.
  • 8.2WIDE. On a length around off, Harbhajan walks across his sticks and looks to flick but misses. Lokesh Rahul is not happy, as he reckons that the ball clipped the batsman's pad.
  • 8.1On middle and leg, calmly tucked towards fine leg for a single.
  • Andrew Tye is back on.
  • 7.6Outside off, another swing from Bhajji, ready to send this ball to the Wankhede - only no contact made. 45/3
  • 7.5A short ball outside off, Bhajji looks to cut but misses.
  • 7.4FOUR! That is a bit lucky. A short ball outside off, Harbhajan swings hard but gets a bottom edge. It bounces just in front of Rahul and goes through behind. 109 more needed from 60 balls to go on top for Chennai.
  • 7.3Outside off, punched straight to point.
  • 7.2The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. One run added to the total.
  • 7.1Down the leg side, helped straight to short fine leg.
  • Axar Patel time.
  • 6.6Outside off, Singh gets across and exhibits one of the most ugliest leaves with his left leg in the air. That should have been a wide but the umpire reckons the man who has been promoted tonight has moved way too across. Fantastic spell by Rajpoot - 4-1-19-2! 40/3
  • 6.5Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 6.4SIX! The ball after the Free Hit becomes a big hit. A short ball outside off, Harbhajan walks down the track and slaps it flat over extra cover for a biggie! 114 more needed from 66 balls to finish on top for Chennai. Bhajji moves to 11 from 10 balls with his first six. The stand moves to 13 from 13 balls.
  • 6.3The ball lands in the mitts of the keeper. Bhajji swings wildly again but is foxed by the slower one.
  • FREE HIT! Where will this land?
  • 6.3NO BALL! Ankit is not too happy. It is a late call, a no ball, called for the second bouncer of the over. Now Rajpoot is not happy because Harbhajan had walked down the track and missed as he looked to pull.
  • 6.2Outside off, a wild swing and a miss.
  • 6.1HOW DID THAT MISS? Harbhajan walks across his stumps but misses. The ball goes just over the stumps! Rajpoot appeals for the catch but the umpire asks him to be calm.
  • 5.6Goes for a yorker, but bowls a high full toss. Bhajji swings it towards mid-wicket for a single. 33/3
  • 5.5FOUR! THRASH! He is not messing around. Backs away and slaps this length ball over cover for a boundary!
  • 5.4A length ball on middle, Harbhajan backs away and slaps it towards mid on.
  • 5.3DIRECT HIT WOULD HAVE HAD BHAJJI. On a length on middle, Raina taps it to the leg side and sets off for a single. David Miller it is, at square leg and he sees that Harbhajan is slow to take off. Takes aim and then has a shy at the striker's end. Misses. Harbhajan was nowhere in the frame.
  • 5.2The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 5.1On a good length around off, watchfully defended.
  • Mohit Sharma is back on.
  • 4.6DROPPED! Finch is the culprit!!! On a length outside off, Bhajji is squared up and the ball goes off the outside edge. This time it is a simpler catch for Chris Gayle at first slip but before the ball can reach West Indies, Australia come in between. Aaron Finch dives, well, one might say in hindsight, UNNECESSARILY, from second slip to his left but cannot hang on. Had he not dived, Gayle would have gobbled it and digested it as well. What an over... A DOUBLE WICKET MAIDEN!!! 27/3
  • 4.5Strange way to play the hat-trick ball. Walks across his stumps and swats the short ball towards mid-wicket.
  • Oh my my! Harbhajan Singh is in now, to face the hat-trick ball!!!
  • 4.4OUT! BAM GOES SAM! Or his stumps, rather. Ankit targets the length outside off again and gets it to nip back in appreciably. Billings looks to defend but is comprehensively beaten. The ball goes past his outside edge and sends the off stump for a walk. Rajpoot is on a hat-trick!!!
  • Sam Billings walks in at number 4, replacing Faf du Plessis.
  • 4.3WHAT-A-CATCHHHHH! Take a bow, Chris Gayle. You have us floored. Terrific, terrific catch. A combination of some terrific bowling and fielding. Let us go play by play. Rajpoot comes charging in. Now let us have a look at Faf du Plessis' feet position. Pause. He is standing a bit sideways, opening his body a bit. Continue playing. Now let us have a look at where the ball is landing. Pause again. On a good length outside off, just around the area where there is a collection of grass. Continue playing. Now the movement. The ball jags back in off the seam and Faf is forced to play at it. Pause. Now because Faf is batting in a sideways position, he cannot leave the ball. Continue playing. Nothing he can do now. He is squared up and the ball flies off the outside edge. Now Chris Gayle at first slip. He watches the ball like a hawk and goes very low to his left. Now pause. Pause. Pause. In that position, he takes it with his palm facing skywards! How on earth did he do that? Well he did it on this very planet called earth. The umpires were not sure initially but replays confirmed that Faf has to go. What a catch, sir!
  • Gone? Yes, feels Gayle. Double yes, feels Rahul. Soft signal is OUT as the verdict is referred upstairs...
  • 4.2Outside off, a fish and a miss from du Plessis.
  • 4.1Full and outside off, driven straight to point.
  • 3.6Full and outside off, SR drives this through the covers but the fielder dives to stop what would have been the third boundary of the over. 10 from the over - the bowler who was brought in to take some control has been controlled. 27/1
  • 3.5Outside off, left alone for a change.
  • 3.5WIDE. Another one down the leg side, SR misses his flick again.
  • 3.5WIDE. Pressure on Tye, bowls this down the leg side, Suresh misses his flick.
  • 3.4FOUR! Ho ho ho! Vintage Raina? Mostly! Backed away on the previous ball but here, he gives the charge. Jumps out, gets to the pitch of the ball and blasts it past the bowler down the ground for boundaries in succession. Moves to 10 from 7 balls with his second boundary. The stand is worth 22 from 15 balls. 129 more needed to win from 84 balls for Chennai to go on top.
  • 3.3FOUR! THUNDEROUS! A short ball outside off, Raina steps back and slashes it behind point for a boundary!
  • 3.2Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 3.1Short and outside off, cut straight to point.
  • A little bit of hold is needed on the proceedings. Hence, Andrew Tye comes on to bowl.
  • 2.6FOUR! Lovely shot, yet audacious. Walks down the track, converts the length ball into a half volley and smacks it over the infield at cover for a boundary. 137 more needed from 88 balls to go on top for Chennai. 17/1
  • 2.5Wide outside off, going away, let through.
  • Better... no fine leg now and he moves to second slip. But a ball too late?
  • 2.4EDGED, FOUR! Agonizing for the bowler. Sometimes one wonders - if you have to restrict the opposition in double figures, won't it be worth going with an all-attacking field? On a length outside off, du Plessis pushes at it but the ball lands, then seams away, takes the outside edge and goes - where? Where there is no man standing. At vacant second slip position. Towards the third man fence. Faf moves to 10 from 10 balls with his second boundary.
  • 2.3Terrific bowling. Rajpoot now channels this outswinger around middle and leg, Faf somehow manages to push it away towards mid off. Almost got a leading edge.
  • 2.2Loose............. a length ball outside off, swinging away, du Plessis hops and looks to slash but is comprehensively beaten.
  • 2.1Down the leg side, tickled away towards fine leg for a single.
  • 1.6FOUR! But almost another one! This is on a length around off, this one sticks onto the surface a touch. Faf du Plessis checks his drive and it goes uppishly towards the left of Sharma. He sticks his hand out but can't reach to it. The ball races through mid off and into the fence. First boundary for Chennai. End of a successful over by Mohit. 8/1
  • 1.5Better by him! Goes full and on off, no swing though this time. Faf pushes it to mid off.
  • 1.4Another short ball on middle, Raina tucks it around the corner for a run. Once again Mohit is slightly on the shorter side.
  • 1.3Back of a length on off, Raina defends it onto the ground. Needs to go a little fuller here, the bowler needs to make use of the swing.
  • Suresh Raina walks in at no. 3.
  • 1.2OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Sharma draws first blood and look at the Punjab players they are ecstatic. Brilliantly bowled. This is on a length around off, it pitches and then moves away from the batsman. Rayudu tries to defend but does not account for the movement away. The ball kisses the outside edge and goes into the mitts of Rahul who throws it up and appeals and the umpire agrees with him. Early wicket for the visitors and it is of the man who has been prolific for Chennai this season. Rayudu walks back for his first single digit score this season and it is game on here in Pune.
  • 1.1Good length ball on off, Rayudu keeps it out.
  • Mohit Sharma to bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6A peach to end a very good first over by the bowler! Hits the length ball around off, it moves away late. Faf du Plessis plays inside the line and gets beaten. 3/0
  • For Punjab to qualify, they have to bowl Chennai out for 99. Whereas, if the home side wants to go on top, it needs to chase this target down within 17.4 overs.
  • 0.5Beaten for the second time in the over! The outswinger from off and on a length. Faf du Plessis tries to keep it out off the front foot but is done in by the late movement.
  • 0.4This is wide outside off, Faf makes a leave.
  • 0.3Goes for the magic delivery which swings from leg to off but this one does not move. Faf flicks it through backward square leg and bags a brace.
  • 0.2BEATEN! Very well bowled by Rajpoot. Once again it is the awayswinger on off. Faf lunges forward and tries to defend it but gets beaten.
  • 0.1Swing first up but that was nicely played by Rayudu. This is on a length around off, it shapes away. Ambati adjusts and plays it late with an angled bat down to third man for a run. Chennai are up and running.
  • We are back for the chase! Ambati Rayudu has a new partner with him as Faf du Plessis makes his way out to the middle. Ankit Rajpoot will start the proceedings for Punjab. He has two slips in place. Here we go...
