  • Right! Not quite the number 1 vs number 2 contest one would have hoped for. India have played like Kings in Kingsmead, blowing South Africa away. Will more of this follow in the second ODI? We head over to Centurion for the lone day game in this ODI series - at 1000 local (0800 GMT). That will be played on Sunday, 4th February, 2018. Do join us then. There will be a couple of other matches before that game but the one currently ongoing is the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Test series where it is difficult to say who is putting up a fight and who is the underdog. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Indian captain, Virat Kohli says that the first game of a series is very important and the team wanted to bring the confidence from Johannesburg (the third Test where India won). Adds that when they restricted South Africa to 270, they realized that they are in with a chance. Feels sorry for Dhawan but nice for Rahane as he sealed the number 4 spot. Agrees that chasing is fun, as it suits his game style more. On his century celebration, he smiles and says that he had not scored a century in South Africa and to do that in the very first game means great. On his knee injury, he says that he felt pain in his groin as well and players need to be careful in long tours like these. Is proud of his bowling unit - Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah and the two spinners. Praises Faf du Plessis for his innings too. Is happy that the two young spinners were bravely flighting the ball, in spite of playing their first game in South Africa. Is even happier that both bowlers were setting their own fields, which indicates their confidence. On Rahane, he says that watching him bat gave him confidence at the other end.
  • South African skipper, Faf du Plessis says that he went to the dressing room during the run chase not to HIDE, but because he wanted to check his finger. On his back, he says he is fine, not a worry. Blames the poor batting by his side for the loss. Praises India for their bowling but sternly tells that the Proteas were 60-70 runs short because India have a very good batting lineup. Is happy of the stands with Morris and Phehlukwayo but still, laments the batting effort in general. On the bowling, Faf says that he tried all that he could to try and pick up a wicket but Kohli was too good. Hopes that his side learns a thing or two from the Indian batting in this game.
  • Agreed, it is just the first match but once the new balls got older, the Proteas simply struggled to keep the Indians quiet. Singles were conceded easily and it was not till the 30th over when Rahane and Kohli actually decided to try and finish the game by the 40th over that the visitors pressed on the charge button. To win by 6 wickets, that too, with a proper batsman short, in a foreign venue, just goes to show the volumes of confidence, this team is in. Time for the presentation...
  • Really seems like an India-Sri Lanka ODI match all over once again. Pitch looked subcontinental, yet India found ways of losing two quick wickets. Then, the 189-run stand between Kohli and Rahane sealed the deal. South Africa have a lot of questions to answer in their quest for Mission WC 2019 and this is definitely not their best step.
  • Two fabulous knocks, one team goes on to win. Faf du Plessis' century lifted South Africa to 269. At the halfway stage, it seemed competitive. But halfway through the run chase, it just seemed like a respectable total defending which, the Proteas could try and pick some wickets.
  • 45.3FOUR! India go 1-0 up. In some style. Dominated South Africa at a venue where the Indians have not won a single ODI before tonight. A short ball around off, Dhoni swivels and pulls it through square leg. No one bothers to chase. Everyone wants this done and dusted with. Let us shake hands. VICTORY BY 6 WICKETS AND 27 BALLS TO SPARE!
  • 45.2A full toss outside off, pushed back to the bowler.
  • 45.1Outside off, pushed to the off side for a quick single.
  • 44.6Huge LBW shout, nothing in it. Full and straight, Dhoni misses his flick and is hit on the pads. Amla thinks this would have been worth a review but Hawk Eye shows it to be missing leg. 265/4
  • 44.5Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off for a single.
  • 44.4That ball has struck the batsman on the thigh pad. They manage to come back for the second. Leg byes given by the umpire.
  • MS Dhoni walks out now, officially the finisher.
  • 44.3OUT! Kohli falls. After a valiant century. A short ball outside off, Kohli looks to pull but mistimes it miles in the air. Kagiso Rabada runs across to his left from fine leg and takes it comfortably. Kohli cannot take his team home but his side is nearly home. End of another magnificent innings.
  • 44.2Ridiculous review. Pandya had walked across his stumps and missed a straight delivery, a full toss, getting pinged on the pads. Phehlukwayo asked the question, only to be ignored. He convinced the stand-in skipper, Amla to go for the review, who decides to waste some time. Impact is umpire's call, hitting not even one of the three stumps. A single taken in the meanwhile.
  • Oh wow. A review at this time of the game.
  • 44.1A short ball outside off, pull-slapped through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 43.6Full and outside off, Hardik gets across and defends. 260/3
  • 43.5Let's play football! What an effort. Kohli pulls this through fine leg where Tabraiz Shamsi, the substitute, runs to his left, slides and then kicks the ball away towards deep mid-wicket! A single taken.
  • 43.4Walks across his stumps and flicks it towards fine leg for a single.
  • 43.3Full and outside off, driven through mid off where Hashim Amla slides across to stop the ball to his right. Just a single.
  • 43.2The batsman has punched that ball through the off side.
  • 43.1A short ball outside off, Kohli looks to pull but misses.
  • 42.6DROPPED! The substitute can be forgiven. The match is nearly over. But he has robbed Phehlukwayo off a wicket. A short ball outside off, Kohli looks to pull but gets a top edge which goes towards deep square leg. Substitute Khaya Zondo comes running in, gets to the ball but conveniently misses it. The ball goes through his hands, hits his chest and drops down. A single taken. Kohli looks furious with himself. Wants to finish unbeaten. 257/3
  • 42.5Ahhh... a short ball outside off, Virat looks to swat it but the ball goes off the top edge and lands beside him. Kohli asks the square leg umpire whether it would have been wided had he left it alone. In all probability it would have been.
  • Hardik Pandya walks in at number 5 for the finishing duties.
  • 42.4OUT! No double century stand, no 8-wicket win. South Africa have picked up a wicket more because Rahane has got bored of net practice. A length ball on middle, Rahane looks to go over the top but there is no timing on that. The ball goes off the inner half of the bat towards long on where Imran Tahir takes it calmly. What a partnership. Worth 189. Just 14 more needed.
  • 42.3Full on middle, flicked through mid-wicket where the fielder makes a good diving stop.
  • 42.2Excellent yorker, dug out back to the bowler.
  • 42.1Full and outside off, Rahane chips it down the ground but Hashim Amla races across to his right and makes a decent stop.
  • 41.6Down the leg side, flicked through mid-wicket for a couple. The throw comes at the non-striker's end but Rabada is the last bit interested, standing in the middle of the pitch, apparently too bored to move a muscle. Quinton de Kock runs at the stumps at the keeper's end, shouts, 'KG! KG!' indicating him to go to the stumps but the look on the bowler's face says it all - What is the point? South Africa look demolished. 256/2
  • 41.5Outside off, dabbed to third man for a single.
  • 41.4Works it through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 41.3The batsman has played it towards mid-wicket.
  • 41.2FOUR! A net session is going on. A young fast bowler comes on to bowl, someone who has troubled Kohli in the Tests. And the Indian skipper treats him like a rookie. Just lofts a length ball over cover for a boundary. 250 UP FOR INDIA. Almost there...
  • 41.1A length ball around off, defended to the leg side.
  • Kagiso Rabada is back on. For how long?
  • 40.6A short ball, pulled through mid-wicket for a single. 12 from the over. 248/2
  • 40.5FOUR! ODI 100 NUMBER 33! 67 short? Another brilliant knock. Gets there in style too, reaching out to a half volley and driving it through the covers. His reaction makes it seem that he wanted this badly - scoring a hundred in the first match of the series and setting the tone. He roars. And more often than not, when he roars, the opposition cows.
  • 40.4Banged in short, pulled through mid-wicket for one.
  • 40.3Pushes this down to long on for a run.
  • 40.2FOUR! Aerial but safe. Full and wide outside off, Kohli reaches out and slices it over point for a boundary! Moves to 95...
  • 40.1Outside off, punched through mid on for a single.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo comes back on for some bowling practice or some batting hits for the batsmen.
  • POWERPLAY 3 time. Does it matter? 5 fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle. This match is almost like 5 matches left in the series for SA.
  • 39.6Flicks this through the leg side for a run. 10-0-51-0 are the figures for Imran Tahir. Totally nullified tonight. 236/2
  • 39.5The batsman has played it to the point region. They pick up a single.
  • 39.4Comes down the track and swings it through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 39.3Driven through mid on by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 39.2Outside off, steered straight to short third man.
  • 39.1Full and outside off, Kohli reaches out and has a hack, only to miss and get a thick inside edge to the leg side.
  • 38.6FOUR! Easy peasy. Waits for the short ball, arches his back and guides it over the keeper to the third man fence. 15 from the over. 38 more needed from 66 balls now. 232/2
  • 38.6WIDE. Slips out of the hand, goes down the leg side, Jinx misses his flick.
  • 38.5SIX! THRASH! A length ball outside off, Rahane just swings it cleanly over long on! The stand is worth 160 from 160 balls!
  • 38.4Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 38.3The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. The batsmen have run through for a single.

  • 37.2Driven towards the mid off region. One run added to the total.

  • 36.6The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. 213/2
  • 36.5Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.
  • 36.4The batsman opens the face of the bat and helps it to third man. One run added to the total.
  • 36.3'Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!' Morris is frustrated to no end. He bowls this on a back of a length, outside off, induces a false shot from Rahane who looks to run it down to third man without moving his feet and gets an inside edge. But it misses the stumps and goes to fine leg. A run taken.
  • 36.2Works it through mid-wicket and hares back for the second. 59 more needed from 82 balls.
  • 36.1FOUR! CARESSED! Welcome back into the attack, mate! Full on middle and off, Rahane drives it straight down the ground, getting it well wide of mid on to the fence! The stand moves to 142 from 143 balls.
  • Chris Morris is back on.
  • 35.6Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. They pick up a single. 15 from the over - Markram might be done for the night. 205/2
  • 35.5Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 35.4Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a couple.

  • 35.1Full and outside off, driven through the covers for a single.
  • 34.6A short ball around off, Jinx mistimes his pull to short mid-wicket. 190/2
  • 34.5FOUR! 24th ODI Fifty for Rahane! His fifth in succession! A short ball down the leg side, Rahane pulls it over square leg for a boundary! Terrific batting.

  • 34.2Outside off, pushed through point for a run.

  • 33.2The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. They pick up a single.
  • 33.1Full and outside off, Kohli reaches out and drives it straight to cover.
  • Some experimentation from Faf du Plessis. He gets on Aiden Markram on to bowl. Looks like an offie.
  • DRINKS BREAK. Another chase, the master presents a case. 269 is not a bad score on this track but the Indians are making it look like a stroll in the park. This is not the best bowling attack in the world but it is not an attack which can pick only 2 wickets, that too, in its home conditions. The bowling is looking ordinary and Faf du Plessis needs some inspiration to turn this around. As far as India are concerned, they would be pretty confident about this. Hardly broke a sweat.
  • 32.6Another short ball outside off, Jinx lets it go. 178/2
  • 32.5A short ball outside off, Virat hops and punches it in front of point for a single. Wants a second but Rahane shouts ,'NAHI! NAHI! NAHI! NAHI! NAHI!' and Kohli apologizes.

  • 32.3Now he gets the single. Just taps it wide of point and runs across.
  • 32.2Outside off, played straight to cover.

  • Last throw of dice by Faf du Plessis. Morne Morkel has been brought back on.
  • 31.6Full and outside off, eased straight to cover. Not a bad comeback from Tahir after going for a biggie on the first ball. 175/2
  • 31.5Down the leg side, paddled fine for a couple.

  • 31.2Flatter and quicker outside off, pushed straight to cover.

  • 30.6FOUR! A bad ball to finish the over. A short ball down the leg side, Kohli pulls it to the fine leg fence. The 100-run stand is up, in just 112 balls. 167/2
  • 30.5Outside off, Virat taps it towards backward point and sets off for a suicidal single but thankfully Rahane lets him know that it is a crime and sends his skipper back.
  • 30.4Full and outside off, pushed a tad uppishly but straight to short extra cover.
  • 30.3Outside off pushed straight to cover.
  • 30.2A short ball around middle, worked through square leg for a couple.
  • 30.1A length ball outside off, cutting in, pushed towards short mid-wicket.
  • 29.6A rare dot. Worked straight to short mid-wicket. What an over - 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0. No trouble at all. 161/2

  • 29.3Outside off, pushed through the covers for one.
  • 29.2The googly, outside off, but a touch shorter in length, punched down to long on for a run.
  • 29.1Short and outside off, Kohli rocks back and cuts it through the covers for a single. The stand is worth 90 from 101 balls.
  • Well, the box of balls has come out. Seems like someone has complained about the shape.
  • 28.6A short ball, around off, cutting in, Kohli swivels and pulls it to long leg for another single. 156/2
  • 28.5Another easy single. Punched down to long on for a run.
  • 28.4The batsman gets an inside edge and the ball hits him on the pads. They pick up a single.

  • 27.4Outside off, punched off the back foot for a run. 150 UP FOR INDIA, 120 more needed from 134 balls.
  • 27.3The batsman has driven it through mid off for a single.
  • 27.2Short and outside off, cut straight to point.
  • 27.1Full on middle, driven through mid on for a single.
  • 26.6That is a grubber! Kohli is lucky that ball is not on the stumps. Short and outside off, Kohli swivels to pull but the ball skids low and goes past the bat to the keeper. That barely bounced. 147/2
  • 26.5Excellent. Flicks this through mid-wicket, calls for two confidently, takes JP Duminy on who has to dive to his right to stop the ball and misfields. He then tries to get up and have a shy at the bowler's end but it is pretty wide. Faf du Plessis gets across to back up from cover and allows it through. There is a chance for the third but Rahane raises his hand up for a negative.
  • 26.4Outside off, lofted towards third man for another single.
  • 26.3Outside off, punched through the covers for one.

  • Meanwhile, Hashim Amla has gone off the field.
  • 25.3Full and outside off, Rahane comes down the track and drives it straight back down the ground. The ball ricochets off the stumps towards extra cover and the batsmen take a single. Looks like Imran Tahir did not touch the ball at all because no one appealed. Kohli was not in his crease.
  • 25.2The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. Spirited effort by the fielder to save runs for his team.
  • 25.1Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a single. Half century for Virat Kohli. Calm and composed. No hurry.
  • 24.6A short ball on middle, pulled through mid-wicket for one. 136/2
  • 24.5Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman.
  • 24.4A short ball, calmly pulled through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 24.3A short ball down the leg side, Kohli pulls it to fine leg for a single.
  • 24.2Almost a wicket! Kohli taps it down and looks to run but the ball goes off the bottom edge which rolls behind. Virat looks back, sees that the ball is well past the stumps and now wants the run. But he is sent back. Quinton de Kock comes running in and kicks the ball at the stumps but Kohli is back in.
  • 24.1Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • Desperation times for Faf du Plessis. Here comes Kagiso Rabada for his second spell.
  • 23.6Full and outside off, driven through the covers for one. 12 from the over - India rolling along nicely. 133/2
  • 23.5FOUR! The wrong 'un goes wrong, lands down the leg side and Kohli just tucks it past short fine leg. The big Morkel is chasing it and well, he is never going to win a 100 metre race. 138 more needed from 157 balls.

  • 22.6FOUR! Too wide and punished. Fuller in length, Kohli reaches out and drives it through the covers for a boundary! 125/2
  • 22.6WIDE. Fired down the leg side, Virat gets across and lets it go. 149 more needed from 163 balls.
  • 22.5Comes down the track and looks to work it away but is cramped for room. The ball goes off the inside edge through square leg and the batsmen take a run.

  • 21.6Full and outside off, pushed past the bowler towards long off for one. 116/2
  • 21.5Once again AR is down the track but this time he works it through mid on for a run.
  • 21.4Sees Ajinkya jump down the track and bowls it really full outside off. The batsman pushes it back, Tahir is lazy in bending but short extra cover mops it up.
  • 21.3Full and around off, Jinx waits for the ball to turn and pushes it towards point again.
  • 21.2Outside off, short again, Rahane looks to cut but gets a bottom edge towards point.

  • Imran Tahir is back on.

  • 20.3Full on middle, quick hands come into play as Jinx flicks it through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 20.2FOUR! TAKE THAT! India are not letting any spinner struggle, let alone a part-time one. This is the first ball that Rahane is facing off Duminy and what does he do? Jumps down the track and smashes it straight back over the bowler for a boundary! 159 more needed from 178 balls.
  • 20.1Full on middle, driven through mid on for a single.
  • Interesting. JP Duminy to roll his arm over.
  • 19.6Outside off, watchfully defended. 106/2
  • 19.6WIDE. Slower ball goes awry, wide outside off and Jinx lets it go.

  • 19.4Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman. One run added to the total.

  • 19.2Full on middle, pushed towards mid on for a quick single.
  • 19.1The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 18.6FOUR! What a shot. A length ball outside off, Kohli punches this down the ground, seemingly for a single but Morne Morkel is too late to get around and that will be a boundary! 100 UP FOR INDIA, 169 more needed from 186 balls. 101/2
  • 18.5That stays horribly low, Virat just about brings his bat down in time and gets a thick bottom edge. A second late and it would have been Kohli LBW.
  • 18.4The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 18.3FOUR! Far from ideal in any format of the game. Miles down the leg side, Kohli just puts his bat to it and the ball goes off the edgy portion to the fine leg fence. The stand is worth 30 from 38 balls.
  • 18.2Outside off, Kohli looks to defend but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. Good call from one of the batsman to say a clear and loud 'NO'.
  • 18.1A length ball around the off stump, Rahane walks down the track and chips it towards deep square leg for a single.
  • 17.6Terrific stop! Full toss and high outside off, Kohli drives it beautifully through the covers but David Miller throws himself to his left and stops it! 92/2
  • 17.5Full and straight, tickled behind square leg for a run.
  • 17.4Around off, defended watchfully.
  • 17.3FOUR! Clean hitting. A length ball outside off, Rahane backs away to the leg side and lofts it over cover for a boundary!

  • Quinton de Kock comes up to the stumps now.
  • 17.1Full and outside off, driven straight to mid off.
  • 16.6The batsman gets up on his toes to play that one. 86/2
  • 16.6WIDE. A meaningless bouncer, way over the head, left alone. The umpire stretches his arms.
  • 16.5Good awareness and Rahane might have been out! Oh dear... not expected from Rahane at least. Full and outside off, Ajinkya drives it straight back once again and this time, Morris picks the ball up in his followthrough and has a shy at the striker's end. Misses. He has his hands on his head and replays show why. Rahane actually tried to get his left foot in first and then got the bat in. Neither did the foot come in nor the bat, when the throw was fired.
  • 16.4Super shot. Full and straight, Jinx drives it straight back to where it came from, past the stumps at the other end. Morne Morkel chases it down from mid off and slides near the ropes to pull the ball back in. Rahane wants the third for that effort, is more than halfway down the track but is sent back.
  • 16.3Outside off, tapped through point for a run.
  • 16.2A length ball outside off, Rahane slices it behind point to third man for a single.
  • 16.1Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off.
  • DRINKS BREAK. India looking pretty comfortable at the moment. Chasing a required run rate of 5.4, they are going at 5 runs an over, without much fuss. Both wickets gone down have been due to poor cricket from the batsmen - Rohit just throwing it away without moving his feet while Dhawan, unfortunate to be run out by his skipper. The South African opening bowlers did threaten to pick a wicket or two but since the backup bowlers have come on, there has not been any potential danger.
  • 15.6Down the leg side, tucked towards square leg for a run. 81/2
  • 15.5Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 15.5WIDE. Slips this down the leg side, Rahane misses his pull.
  • 15.4That looks very, very close. On a length outside off, coming in sharply, Virat walks down the track and misses his flick, getting hit pretty low on the pads. Phehlukwayo starts to shout but then bails out. Not quite sure why the Proteas did not go for the review. That looked pretty adjacent. Waiting for the Hawk Eye.
  • 15.3Full on middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 15.2Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a single.
  • 15.1Outside off, Rahane looks to push and run but gets a bottom edge to the off side. Looks for a run but is sent back.
  • Time for Andile Phehlukwayo.
  • 14.6A bouncer outside off, Virat lets it through. 75/2
  • 14.5Brilliant running. Virat pushes at this away from his body and gets it through the covers for another brace. The throw comes in to Morris again and this time he collects it but ouch, gets a blow on his thumb. That looks nasty.
  • KingVish - You should never throw your wickets away in such matches. You never know - rain could come in any time and the you might lose out on Duckworth-Lewis method just because of a wicket down around the break. @KingVish - Hmmm... really thoughtful, though I believe one should never throw his wicket away.
  • 14.4A short ball outside off, Kohli gets on top of the bounce and pulls it through mid-wicket. That should have been just a single but Morris fumbles at the bowler's end and concedes an overthrow.
  • 14.3Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 14.2The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 14.1Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
  • 13.6And again... another one skids straight on, Jinx tries to work it to the leg side but gets another inside edge onto his pads. 71/2
  • 13.5Ahhh.... close. A googly on middle, Rahane looks to flick but is hurried on. Gets a thick inside edge which hits him on the pads. That nearly skidded through.

  • 12.4The ball is way outside the off stump, easy leave for the batsman.
  • 12.3A bouncer outside off, Kohli lets that go.
  • Ajinkya Rahane walks in at number 4, replacing Dhawan.
  • 12.2OUT! LBW shout, turned down. But South Africa still get a wicket! Superb fielding. A length ball outside off, Dhawan swings wildly across the line and misses, getting hit on the pads. Morris starts to appeal but then bails out, recognizing the inside edge. But then, out of nowhere, Virat Kohli is halfway down the pitch for the single. Poor Dhawan has no idea and is suddenly seeing his skipper haring towards him when the southpaw is busy searching for the ball. No option other than to sacrifice your wicket for the best batsman in your team. Dhawan starts to run but gives up halfway. Because Aiden Markram has swooped in on that ball and already had a shy at the bowler's end. Bang. Hits. Dhawan is not impressed with Kohli who is looking angrily at him. Dhawan gestures to him about what was the necessity for that run and then walks off angrily. Absolute waste of a wicket and the 34-run stand has been broken. India need 203 runs from 226 balls.
  • 12.1Outside off, on a length, steered to short third man for a single.
  • 11.6Lucky to get away with that. A rank bad ball, short and outside off, the attempted googly, Shikhar pulls it with disdain but finds the only man in the ring on the leg side - Faf du Plessis at short mid-wicket. The Protea skipper cannot control his laughter. That was a boundary for the taking. 66/1
  • 11.5Outside off, placed wide of cover for one more.
  • 11.4Full and outside off, driven down to long off for a run.
  • 11.3FOUR! Lovely shot indeed! Short and outside off, Dhawan actually sits on a knee and cuts it between point and short third man for a boundary! 206 more needed from 231 balls. The stand is worth 31 from 30 balls now.
  • 11.2Outside off, Kohli walks across and flicks it towards mid-wicket for a single.
  • 11.1Full and outside off, driven straight to short extra cover.
  • Early introduction of spin. Normally Faf du Plessis likes to bring this guy a little bit later than this. Here is Imran Tahir.
  • 10.6FOUR! Nicely done! A short ball outside off, Dhawan waits for the ball to come and deftly cuts it over the keeper and vacant slip region to the third man fence! Indifferent start from Chris Morris - 10 from his opening over. Dhawan has moved to 30 from 25 balls with 5 fours. 59/1

  • POWERPLAY 2 time. 4 fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle till the 40th over.

  • 9.4Outside off, quietly lets that go.
  • 9.3Outside off, Dhawan feels for it but misses.
  • 9.2That's hit the batsman on his pads. The fielding side is asking the question. Leg bye given by the umpire.

  • 8.6Outside off, Virat pushes at it but gets a bottom edge to the off side. 46/1
  • 8.5Around off and outside off, watchfully blocked.
  • 8.4FOUR! BRILLIANT! That is a wonderful shot. Beautifully controlled. Full and outside off, Kohli comes forward and drives it on the up through mid off and to the fence down the ground! The stand is worth 13 from 13 balls.

  • 7.6The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot. 42/1
  • 7.5FOUR! Not the most pleasing of shots but India will not mind. A sharp short ball, around leg and outside, Dhawan jumps and looks to tuck it away and just about gets enough bat on it to make the ball go wide of Quinton de Kock towards fine leg. 228 more needed from 253 balls. Dhawan moves to 20 from 15 balls and this is his fourth boundary.

  • 6.6The batsman has been struck on the thigh pad. 6 runs but a wicket as well of Rohit from that over. 4-0-21-1 so far for Morne. 37/1
  • 6.5FOUR! Super shot. Full on middle, Dhawan pushes this down the ground and beats mid on comfortably!
  • 6.4On middle and leg, Dhawan looks to defend but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. The ball rolls back but well past the stumps.
  • Virat Kohli walks in now, at number 3, replacing Rohit.
  • 6.3OUT! There comes the first breakthrough! Morne provides it. A nothing shot from Rohit. The ball is on a length outside off and the batsman just looks to go over the top without bothering to move his feet. Big mistake. He has survived a couple of close calls so far, with the edges missing the stumps. But third time he is not so lucky. The ball goes off the leading edge and is miles in the air. Quinton de Kock - my word - that is some catch. Calls clearly and loudly - and runs towards point and takes a very good catch. Still a decent start from India. 237 more needed from 261 balls.
  • 6.2Outside off, on a length, pushed straight to point.
  • 6.1Nearly drags it on! On a length outside off, Rohit slashes hard without moving his feet and gets a thick bottom edge which just misses the stumps towards fine leg! A couple taken. Rohit moves to 20 from 28 balls.

  • 5.4Put away the balls which are in your zone and keep the good balls out. That is what the Indians are doing. A length ball on off, Sharma blocks it.

  • 5.1Back of a length on off, Sharma gets on top of the bounce and defends it onto the ground.
  • 4.6Nicely done by Miller! Sharma drives this full ball past the bowler. He sets off for a run. Miller in that region runs to his right and makes a diving stop. Saved atleast two for his side there. 26/0
  • 4.5Shorter in length outside off, Rohit makes a watchful leave.
  • 4.4Length ball on off, kept out.
  • 4.3Full and wide outside off this time. Dhawan mistimes his drive towards extra cover for a run. He initially asks Rohit to wait but seeing the ball beat the diving fielder at covers they go for it.
  • 4.2FOUR! You don't bowl to an Indian batsmen there. A half-volley on the pads, too easy for Dhawan. He flicks it through square leg and the ball races away.
  • 4.1Fuller and outside off, Dhawan drives it firmly to the man at short covers. An excellent shot but for no runs.
  • 3.6FOUR! Bad ball and Rabada pays the price for it. A full toss on the pads, Rohit tickles it fine down the leg side and gets a boundary. 9 runs from the over. 20/0

  • 0.2Full and outside off, pushed to the off side.
  • 0.1Landed outside off, left alone.
  • Welcome back for the run chase. A dark rain cloud is awaiting us. Hopefully, it does not burst. Out come the Indian openers - Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Morne Morkel to start off against Rohit with the first new ball. Here we go...
