  • Okay! That is all from us for this match, series and tour! South Africa vs India is done and dusted but cricket is not! Because in a few hours from now, depending on when you read this text, another cracker of a series gets going! New Zealand host England for one-dayers and Tests and that will be fun too! Do remember to follow those games as well, here only. Until then, ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • As far as South Africa are concerned, plenty to learn from this tour. India have given them a nice hard lesson on how to approach cricket with the white ball and this will only make life better for the home side. Do not forget, they were without AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Dale Steyn and also Chris Morris for a few games. Ouch. They will look to have majority of these back before they play Australia in a Test series starting from 1st March, 2018.
  • Right then! Fine end to the tour for India. Started with losing two Tests on the Trot, then bounced back to win the next 4 games on the trot before the loss at Jo'burg, won the next 3 again, losing the second T20I and eventually won tonight. In short, after those losses in the first two Tests, just two losses in the next what - 10 games! Tremendous! They can now go back home and have a much-deserved rest before they go to Sri Lanka to play err.... a tri-series involving Bangladesh beginning from 6th March, 2018. Hard to find life in that series after a promising blockbuster like the SA one but still... cricket lovers might like it.
  • Rohit Sharma is honest and says India were 15 runs short. Admits that his team lost its way with the bat towards the end but is also quick to say that these things happen and one needs to learn. Praises the bowlers for winning the game. On the second wicket stand, Rohit says that it is crucial for the top three to perform and it has happened throughout this tour. Hopes to keep replicating it as a group. On the game plans, he says that the team management discussed some plans and they worked tonight. Keeping things tight upfront helped and credits the new-ball bowlers. Feels that India's fast bowling has been excellent throughout the tour while the spinners have been excellent. Praises the Indian side for showing a lot of intensity and aggression throughout the tour and that helped them win. Feels the biggest positive was that the team never backed out of difficult situations.
  • BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR is the MAN OF THE SERIES. He too, says that the whole team enjoyed a lot on this tour and credits everything to preparation. Thanks the Indian T20 league for making the Indian bowlers better prepared for T20 cricket enabling them to think on every ball. Says that his aim was to not give too much away in the Powerplay and it worked. On his variations, he says they are a necessity but the key was to keep bowling on the stumps. Smiles on being asked about the pitches which were more India-like and admits that he loved bowling on such surfaces.
  • SURESH RAINA is the MAN OF THE MATCH. Says that one needs to show intent in the Powerplay and that went against South Africa. On the pitch, he adds that it looked a beauty and one just needed to hang in there. Praises the entire unit for being calm throughout the tour, enjoying itself and getting the basics right. Credits the support staff and also captain Virat Kohli for the way he handled things. On his bowling, he says that tonight's experience has given him more confidence.
  • Duminy smiles and says that India bowled very well in the Powerplay and SA could not quite get the boundaries or singles. Admits that the Proteas did really well to bring the difference down to 7 in the end. Feels that 173 could have been gettable but the Proteas could not quite read the knuckle balls and the slower ones. Prasies Jonker for his terrific effort and is proud of his side. On the newcomers coming to the SA side, he feels that there is a lot of talent available in South Africa. Adds that the home side has learnt a lot of lessons in this tour and praises India for a terrific white-ball performance, in spite of losing the Test series before.
  • Decent bowling figures for everyone apart from Bumrah and Axar. Bhuvneshwar was the pick of the lot, with 2/24 while Hardik Pandya was brilliant. The fact that India managed to win in spite of giving just one over to Axar shows how good their bowling depth is. Suresh Raina - wonderful all-round display - 43 with the bat and 1/27 with the ball. Presentation coming up...
  • It seemed like the match was done and dusted with 64 needed from 24 balls and Duminy dismissed. But suddenly, the Proteas started to throw their bats around and India started to lose their nerves. The next three overs went for 45 runs thanks to the debutant Christiaan Jonker but Bhvuneshwar Kumar showed his class in the end.
  • South Africa had a different approach. Unlike India, they went very slow in the Powerplay, managing only 25 runs, keeping wickets in hand. But that went against them, as they never managed to get close to the required run-rate. JP Duminy managed to score a half century but at the cost of too many balls.
  • India played perfectly on a sluggish pitch, going hard in the Powerplay, keeping their wickets intact in the middle overs and then trying to go hard in the death. They failed in the last attempt but still mustered a commanding 172/7.
  • Did JP Duminy lose the match at the toss? Perhaps he did. That is why one should pay close attention to the previous games. Earlier in the day, the Eves had won defending and during that run chase itself, South Africa Women found it difficult to score batting second. Still, he chose to field.
  • What a finish. Perfect fitting to a series finale. India seemed to boss the game till the 15th over of the run chase but nearly lost it in the remaining 5... only to hold their nerves... just.
  • 19.6OUT! Wicket and India have won the T20I series! Well played, Jonker. Deserved a fifty for his effort though! A full toss, dipping in, Jonker couldn't put it away. Looks to go over cover but finds Rohit Sharma at the edge of the circle who takes it and throws it up in the air to celebrate the big win. INDIA BEAT SOUTH AFRICA BY 7 RUNS!
  • 19.5India have this in their bag if Kumar doesn't bowl an illegal ball. Another yorker swirling back in on the middle, Christiaan hoicks across the line. Gets it off the inner half through square leg. Raina from the left and Pandya from the right go after it. Suresh gets to the ball and returns a throw to Dhoni to keep them down to a brace.
  • 19.4Perfect bowling! Bowls an inswining yorker, nothing much a batsman could do. Drags it off the inner half towards long on. Two taken.
  • 19.4Wide! Another slower ball, but this time it crosses the tramline. Jonker leaves it alone. Pressure! Pressure!
  • 19.3Low full toss on off, driven down to long off. Can get only a single though.
  • 19.2FOUR! Over the short third man! Slower delivery, on a shorter length and wider outside off, Behardien reaches out to that one as he goes hard at it. No other option he has. Gets a thick edge and it goes over the fielder at short third man. The crowd is up on its feet. 14 off 4 needed now.
  • 19.1Slower short ball outside off, slapped through cover-point for one.
  • 19 needed off the final 6 deliveries and Bhuvi will be the one to complete the proceedings...
  • 18.6Hits one in the same region but doesn't risk another this time. So Christiaan will keep strike for the final over. 4-0-39-1 finishes Bumrah. Very expensive! 154/5
  • 18.5Another brace! Great running! They have taken Raina - one of the best fielders in the opposition rank! Smashes it down to long on and gets two more.
  • 18.4Back of a length delivery on middle, Jonker pulls it down towards long on. Runs the first one hard and does well to get another.
  • 18.3SIX! This game isn't over, folks! Marginally fuller in length, Jonker takes his front leg out of the way and dispatches it over Raina at long on. Meaty blow!
  • 18.2Almost gets foxed with the slower one! Behardien doesn't read it and nearly spoons a catch to the mid on fielder. It goes on the bounce to the fielder there and they cross.
  • 18.1FOUR! Bumrah too gives a boundary on the first ball but this time it's Behardien who gets one to his name! A full toss on the pads, Farhaan walks across and helps it in front of square on the leg side.
  • 17.6FOUR! Make it 18 from the over! 35 needed off the final 12 balls! Jonker you beauty! Picks up the knuckle ball and thwacks it over deep mid-wicket. It fell flush on the rope on the first replay. The umpire sends it upstairs and replays show it has bounced before going into the fence. 138/5
  • 17.5Good length delivery outside off, Jonker looks to cut but gets a bottom edge towards the point fielder. A dot ball.
  • 17.4FOUR! Drilled! Yes, that's how it was hit from the rookie! Fuller delivery on the stumps, CJ clears the front leg and smacks it straight back down the ground to pick up 14 from this over already.
  • 17.3Beaten! Good comeback from Thakur! Bowls a back of the hand delivery outside off, Christiaan swings across the line but misses.
  • 17.2FOUR! Sliced! 10 off the first two! The debutant is keeping the hopes alive? Makes room to a length delivery and looks to go inside out. Slices it over point and short third man fielder and a boundary results.
  • 17.1SIX! He has teed off! Slower delivery on middle, Jonker stands put and smites it a long way over the deep mid-wicket fence for a maximum to begin the over.
  • 16.6FOUR! Up and over! Backs away to a length ball does Behardien and lofts it cleanly over mid off for a boundary. Still a tough ask - 53 needed off 18 balls. 120/5
  • 16.5Jonker drills it down to long off and gets one to his name.
  • 16.4Fullish ball, curling back in on middle, Farhaan looks to flick but gets it off the inside edge down to fine leg for a single.
  • Farhaan Behardien is the new man in.
  • 16.3OUT! Bowled 'em! Bumrah after bowling it outside off or on off, tries to keep it simple. A length ball on the stumps, Morris backs away and looks to go big. Misses and hears the death rattle.
  • 16.2Swing and a miss! Slower ball on a shorter length, Chris looks to pull but connects with thin air.
  • 16.1FOUR! Edged and that will do for South Africa! Length ball, angling in from outside off, Morris looks to cut but gets it off the bottom edge which evades Dhoni and races towards the third man fence.
  • 16.1That is harsh! Bumrah keeps it on a fuller length outside off, Morris tries fishing with that one but misses. The umpire calls it a wide.
  • Chris Morris is the new man in.
  • 15.6OUT! High up in the air and Rohit Sharma takes it! Thakur is pumped up and why not? Doles a knuckle ball and serves it a touch wider outside off. Duminy gets down to smash it across the line but gets a top edge instead. Loops up high in the air and Rohit Sharma at cover takes it easily to dismiss his opposite number. Is that the game? 64 needed from 24 balls. 109/4
  • 15.5Shortish ball on middle, pulled through square leg and collects a brace for doing so.
  • 15.4Slower delivery, landing and moving away a bit, JP looks to pull but is deceived by the slowness on the ball.
  • 15.3FOUR! Finds the gap! Back-to-back fifties for Duminy, 11th in this format! Also, he's the first one to get to that mark in this game. The job isn't done skippa. Backs away to a length ball and packs a punch through cover. Beats the dive of the fielder there and picks up a boundary.
  • 15.2On a length and angling in on middle, Jonker punches it down to long on to bring his skipper back on strike.
  • Duminy isn't happy with his bat. He wants it to be changed and hence we have a bit of a delay here.
  • 15.1Moves to 49 does the Protea skipper by milking a single towards long off.
  • Shardul Thakur is brought back into the attack. He has given 9 in his 2 overs so far.
  • 14.6Duminy makes some room and slaps it in front of point to keep strike. 72 required from 30 balls. 101/3
  • 14.5Fullish delivery on middle and off, CJ drives it down to long on for one.
  • 14.4Pulled through square leg for a single.
  • 14.3SIX! Misses the length and Bumrah is taken for a journey over long on. Duminy gets underneath the ball and launches it down the ground.
  • 14.2The batsman has attempted to put bat on ball - but fails.
  • 14.1Bumrah begins his spell with a length delivery on middle and leg, Jonker gets it off the inner half towards mid-wicket. Raina comes running in, picks up the ball and has a shy at the bowler's end but misses.
  • Jasprit Bumrah is brought back into the attack.
  • 13.6Is lucky to get away! Raina with another short ball, pulled through mid-wicket for just a single. 12 off the over, South Africa trying to match up with the run rate. 91/3
  • 13.5FOUR! And again! Another bish from Raina! Dhoni asked him to bowl a bit slow but what he does he bowls it quicker and on the stumps. CJ accepts it gleefully as he scoops it over short fine leg for another boundary.
  • 13.4FOUR! Another rubbish delivery and duly punished! Jonker gets low and pulls it over the man at 45 for a boundary.
  • 13.3That's a poor delivery! Down the leg side, Jonker pulls it over short fine leg and gets a couple.
  • 13.2Very full on the stumps, pushed back to Suresh.
  • 13.1Flatter and outside off, punched towards cover for a single.
  • Suresh Raina replaces Axar who conceded 16.

  • Christiaan Jonker walks in next, replacing Klaasen. 94 needed off 43 balls.
  • 12.5OUT! Straight to Bhuvi! Pandya finally gets a wicket and to be honest he has bowled really well tonight. Pitches it up outside off, Klaasen backs away and smashes it flat and hard. Doesn't get the distance as Bhunveshwar Kumar at mid off takes a reverse cup catch over his head. He immediately releases the ball as that was struck really hard. Nevertheless, dangerous Heinrich has to walk back for not much.
  • 12.4Fullish ball on the leg stump, clipped on the bounce to Shardul at fine leg for a single.
  • 12.3Sees Klaasen making room and hence Pandya fires it a fuller ball outside off, Heinrich has to reach out. Doesn't time it well but gets it through cover-point for a single.
  • 12.2Slower ball, it's the cutter, Duminy dabs it towards point for a single.
  • 12.1Shortish ball on middle and leg, JP looks to pull but gets it off the top edge over backward square leg. Thakur from fine leg mops it up as they take two.
  • 11.6Fires it outside off, Heinrich gets into the position to play the reverse sweep but misses out. Dhoni isn't amused. 16 off Axar's first over, much-needed for SA. 99 needed from 48 balls. 74/2
  • 11.5Drags it off the inner half through mid-wicket. Calls for two and gets it easily in the end.
  • 11.4Drops it short on the stumps, pulled straight towards deep mid-wicket who collects it on the bounce. Single this time, some respite for Axar.
  • 11.3SIX! This is even bigger! Gets down and across again, Patel fires it at 101 kph, JP Duminy sends it miles over deep mid-wicket again.
  • 11.2SIX! Murdered! Fuller ball outside off, Duminy gets down and across and slog sweeps it high and handsome over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. They need many more of these.
  • 11.1Axar strikes first ball.... scratch that. Shardul Thakur drops it! Patel begins with a flatter ball on middle, Klaasen hits it powerfully towards long on where Thakur can't cling onto it.

  • 10.3This time waits for the ball to come and mistimes his pull over square leg for a single.
  • 10.2Too early! Pandey digs in a short ball outside off, Klaasen tries to pull even before the ball is dropped on the surface and gets beaten comprehensively.
  • 10.1Good length delivery on middle and leg, Duminy tucks it towards mid-wicket and gets to the other end.
  • 9.6The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot. 52/2

  • Heinrich Klaasen walks in at number 4, replacing Miller.
  • 9.1OUT! Miller's struggle ends. Could this be a blessing in disguise for South Africa? A short ball, Miller looks to pull but gets more height than distance. Simple catch for Axar Patel at deep mid-wicket. 24 from 23 balls for Miller. His captain is slower than him though.

  • 6.2The batsman has punched the ball off the back foot. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 6.1On middle and leg, flicked away for a single.
  • First change. Bhuvi is not bowling all his four overs on the trot. Hardik Pandya comes in to bowl.
  • 5.6Walks across his stumps and blocks. Just 3 from that over, South Africa might be happy that they have lost only a wicket but chasing 173, they would not be too pleased with the fact that they have managed only 25 runs with the fielding restrictions. 25/1
  • 5.5Good change of pace, the knuckle ball from Thakur, David looks to punch this on the up but misses.

  • 4.4Full and straight, Miller blocks solidly.
  • 4.3The ball takes the outside edge goes towards the slip region. One run added to the total.
  • 4.2Uppish, just short. Full and outside off, Duminy is beaten by the knuckle ball again as he is early into his push shot. The ball lobs towards cover where Suresh Raina dives forward but the ball lands in front.

  • 2.4A short ball outside off, Reeza looks to pull but misses.
  • 2.3DIRECT HIT WOULD HAVE HAD HENDRICKS. Outside off, Miller looks to push it through the off side but gets a thick inside edge towards short fine leg. Hendricks calls for the quick single and Shardul Thakur has a shy at the striker's end. Misses. Replays show that Hendricks would have been a goner.
  • 2.2The leg cutter, outside off, Hendricks waits for the ball to come to him and dabs it to short third man for a quick single.
  • 2.1Outside off, played straight back.
  • 1.6A length ball, down the leg side, Reeza misses his tuck and the ball goes off his pads towards the leg side. A quick leg bye taken. 8/0
  • 1.5The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 1.4The batsman works it down the leg side. One run added to the total.
  • 1.3A length ball, around off, cutting back sharply, Miller looks to flick but misses and is hit on the pads.
  • 1.2The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 1.1Down the leg side, flicked towards fine leg for a single.
  • Jasprit Bumrah to bowl from the other end. Boy, did they miss him the other night.

  • 0.5The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 0.4FOUR! Fast outfield. A length ball outside off, Hendricks punches it towards point. Manish Pandey leaps but can only get his fingers to it. The ball is palmed over. Axar Patel runs after it, so does Shardul Thakur from third man. The latter stops, seeing Axar dive but it is vain. Now Thakur blames Axar that had he not dived, he could have stopped the ball. Pandey too, asks Axar whether Thakur could have stopped the ball. The answer is a shake of the head from Axar. No way Shardul could have got to that.
  • 0.3The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 0.2No feet movement. But plenty of ball movement. Full and outside off, swinging away, Reeza drives without moving his feet and misses.
  • 0.1Outside off, pushed straight to cover.
  • We are already back for the run chase. David Miller and Reeza Hendricks will open the innings for South Africa. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will open the innings with the ball. Hendricks to face. Here we go...
