  • That's all we have from this match. We look forward to your company for the final T20I on Sunday in Lahore. Do join us at 1300 GMT (1800 local) for all the action. Until then, it's goodbye from all of us here. Cheers!
  • Sarfraz Ahmed smiles and thanks the Almighty first up. Praises his bowlers for making a brilliant comeback and is all gaga over their fielding. Lauds Shadab Khan for hitting that crucial six and claims that it wasn't easy to hit that shot. Feels that the team management is backing the young players and it's delivering the goods. Admits that they need to improve their batting for consistent results in future. He is excited for the match in Lahore and thanks the crowd in Abu Dhabi before signing off.
  • Thisara Perera manages a smile on his face. Says that they can take a lot of positive from this match and praises his boys for their effort. He feels it's not easy to score big runs on this pitch and also lauds his bowlers for pushing Pakistan to the very limit. Adds that they are getting there and victory is not very far. On their batting woes, he replies that the batsmen haven't been able to execute the plans and that's costing them.
  • Man of the Match, Shadab Khan thanks the Almighty first. Says he had the confidence and self belief to take his team over the line. Further says he tried to give it his all initially but the shots weren't coming but then in the end he took the name of the Almighty and hit one over the rope. Opines T20 is such a format where you need to contain the batsmen and come up with variations and only then you can pick up wickets.
  • You got to feel bad for Sri Lanka tonight. No, they didn't deserve to win after yet another dismal batting show but their bowlers bowled with a lot of heart and deserved better. Led by skipper Thisara Perera, who claimed a 3-fer, the Lankan bowlers were clever in their approach and bowled with a lot of purpose. Isuru Udana and Sachith Pathirana were at their economical best which created immense pressure on Pakistan but eventually they didn't have enough on the board which cost them. Also, had Gunathilaka taken the catch on the third ball of the 20th over, it could have been different. Well, things always look different on hindsight.
  • Pakistan for once looked like faltering against Sri Lanka in the limited overs cricket. They made a mountain out of a molehill in a fairly straightforward chase. After a decent beginning in the chase, the hosts lost their way. Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik pulled them back to show the right path but they failed to finish the job. The lower order huffed and puffed before the finish line and it required a calm and composed head of Shadab Khan to see them through.
  • What a nerve-racking game! It swung like a pendulum and Pakistan nearly messed up. Credit to Sri Lanka for their wholeheartedly effort. They weren't defending a big total but gave it their all. The bowling was on the money and it was backed up by some exceptional fielding. When you lose games like these, it hurts more. But at least they competed today, a big positive before heading to Lahore for the final T20I which now is a dead rubber.
  • 19.5PAKISTAN WIN BY 2 WICKETS! Smiles all around. Take a bow, Shadab Khan. A youngster with a calm head. Doesn't get carried away. Maintains his cool. Knows only two runs are needed and hence doesn't try anything fancy. Just bunts a full ball down the ground, his partner is aware of the plan. By the time the long on fielder gets to the ball, they complete two runs. Brilliant. Outstanding. 2-0, Pakistan!
  • 19.4SIX! Go fetch that! Shadab Khan is a superstar! He has absolutely murdered that delivery from his sight. It's right in the slot, full and on middle, Shadab makes room and launches it over the bowler's head for a maximum. Wow, talk about pressure and this young wonder kid dealing with it without any fuss. Just two more needed.
  • 19.3DROPPED! COSTLY MISS! A full length ball around off, Hasan winds up for a big shot but ends up slicing it in the air towards long off. Gunathilaka rushes across to his left from the deep, puts in a leap but fails to hold on to the catch. It bursts through his hands, rolls behind and by the time it's retrieved, the batsmen take three runs.
  • 19.2Full and on middle, forced down to long on for one.
  • HASAN ALI walks in at number 10, replacing Ashraf. He can tonk a few maximums. Pakistan would dearly love one at this time...
  • 19.1OUT! A wicket first ball makes it even more interesting. Very full in length ball on leg, Fahim swings his bat across the line although there wasn't enough room available. He fails to time his shot well and gets caught at long on by Gunathilaka.
  • Here we go then... 12 runs needed. 6 balls remaining. Who is the bowler? Who is the bowler? No options left for Thisara. It is.... VIKUM SANJAYA.
  • 18.6Appeal for an lbw, not entertained. Angling into the batsman, Ashraf tries heaving but misses and is hit on the pads. Missing leg, hence the umpire showed no interest. Only 4 from the over. 113/7
  • 18.5Yorker outside off, a swing and a miss by Fahim. Lovely bowling.
  • 18.4Another wild slog resulting in an inside edge onto the pads. A run stolen. 13 needed from 8 balls.
  • 18.3Goes for a big heave over the leg side but gets an inside edge down to long leg. A single taken.
  • 18.2Spears in a very full ball on middle, Shadab digs it out on the leg side and scampers across to the other end. Udana has a shy at the bowler's end but misses. Shadab would have been a goner.
  • What has happened here? We have an appeal for hold your breath - OBSTRUCTING THE FIELD. Isuru Udana complained to the umpire that Ashraf came in his way else he could have affected a run out. This is interesting...
  • 18.1NOT OUT! Udana steams in from around the wicket and angles in a length ball from wide of the crease. Shadab drives it straight back and the bowler moves across to his right to stop the ball. But the non-striker who was already down the track tries to return and gets in the bowler's way. Now then, Sri Lanka are appealing for obstructing the field. Hmmm...interesting. The umpires go upstairs and after watching the replays the third umpire decides that it wasn't intentional from Ashraf. Get on with the game.
  • 17.6Angling into the batsman, around off, Shadab swings across the line, trying to slog over mid-wicket but gets an inside edge onto the pads. It deflects to covers and they cross. 9 runs and two wickets off the over! 109/7
  • 17.5FOUR! Oh, Shadab! What a shot. Too full in length outside off, Khan plays a wristy drive through point and finds the fence. This will calm down some nerves in the Pakistan camp.
  • 17.4OUT! Sarfraz is a goner! 21 needed off 14 balls and the game now tilts towards Sri Lanka a bit. What a contest this is turning out to be! Perera bowls a full toss outside off and Ahmed forces it down to long off. He wants the second run and turns back for the same. Gunathilaka fires in an accurate throw to the keeper who wastes no time in dislodging the bails. They appeal, it's referred upstairs and the replays find Sarfraz inches short of the crease. Sri Lanka in with a huge chance now to topple Pakistan.
  • Appeal for a run out! Sarfraz is the batsman in question. Massive moment in the match. It's touch and go...
  • 17.3The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single.
  • 17.2A full toss for the new batsman, Ashraf top edges his pull shot behind square leg and rushes back for the second run.
  • Fahim Ashraf is the new man in!
  • 17.1OUT! Perera gets his third wicket and this game continues to hang in balance, however still tilted just a bit in Pakistan's favour. Top delivery, Perera spears in a very full delivery on middle at 130 kph, Imad tries to sweep but misses. He is thudded on the boot, they appeal and the finger goes up. Dead plumb.
  • Thisara Perera is back into the attack. 25 needed from 18 deliveries. This will be a very crucial over.
  • 16.6Play and a miss to end a 6-run over! On a length and outside off, Ahmed pushes inside the line and misses. 100/5
  • 16.5Top effort, Priyanjan. It wasn't an 'Aasan (easy in Hindi) stop. Short in length on middle, Sarfraz pulls it thunderously through mid-wicket and it races through. Priyanjan moves swiftly across to his right from long on and makes a tremendous diving stop. Saves two runs for his side. Every run matters in this close game.
  • 16.4Serves it full and just outside leg, Wasim moves back to make space and drills it shot all along the ground to long off for a run.
  • 16.3Fullish and on off, Sarfraz caresses it down to long on and takes a single. That's all they need to do.
  • 16.2Angling away from the batsman, on a length, Imad calmly pushes it with an angled bat behind point. A single to rotate the strike.
  • 16.1Short in length on middle, Sarfraz gets on top of the bounce and pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a run.
  • Imad Wasim arrives. There is a bowling change too. Vikum Sanjaya is brought back into the attack.
  • 15.6OUT! Hafeez holes out! Flighted delivery outside off, slower through the air, 80 kph and landing full. Hafeez uses his feet with the intention to clear long on but fails to middle his shot. It's caught in the deep by Thisara Perera. 31 needed off 24 balls, this game is not done yet, folks. 4-0-18-1 - Pathirana is done for the night, brilliant stuff! 94/5
  • 15.5Keeps it short and on off, it's stroked to deep cover for one.
  • 15.4Pathirana drags his length short and drops it on middle, Hafeez plays a powerful pull shot to deep mid-wicket for a run.
  • 15.3Fires it in this time, short and on middle, 88 kph, Sarfraz makes room by going deep inside the crease and slaps it through cover-point for one.
  • 15.2Floated one, 81 kph, drifting in on middle, Sarfraz sweeps but finds short fine leg.
  • 15.1Flatter on off, punched back to the bowler.
  • 15.1Appeal for a stumping! Pathirana fires in a full ball down the leg side, Sarfraz goes down on one knee to sweep but misses. It's an excellent take by the keeper who immediately removes the bails and appeals. The square leg umpire takes it upstairs and the replays find that Sarfraz never left his crease. Hmm...
  • Sachith Pathirana is back on.
  • 14.6Short in length on middle, Sarfraz jumps and pulls it to deep backward square leg for a run. 90/4
  • 14.5FOUR! Smart batting! Clever from the skipper. He knew about the fielding change. Udana follows him with a full delivery down the leg side, Sarfraz still manages to make room and squeezes it past short third man. A boundary off the bat after some time, 69 balls to be precise.
  • Third man comes in, mid-wicket drops back.
  • 14.4Goes full this time and puts it outside off, Hafeez plays a crisp cover drive and takes a single as the ball is stopped in the deep.
  • 14.3Back of a length delivery outside off, Hafeez stands back and taps it down to point.
  • 14.2Short and wide outside off, cut to sweeper cover for one.
  • 14.1Shortish and on middle, worked in the gap on the leg side for a run.
  • Isuru Udana is back on.
  • 13.6Four leg byes! Fuller in length and angling down the leg side, Sarfraz winds up for a big heave across the line but fails to make any connection. It brushes his pads and speeds away to the fine leg fence. 11 from the over. 82/4
  • Change of helmet for Sarfraz Ahmed. Quite humid out there and the skipper is sweating profusely. Hang on, it's the wrong helmet which has been handed over to him. Ahmed is furious with his teammate who rushes back to get the correct gear. Meanwhile, he is sipping some water. Sri Lanka shouldn't be liking it as it's hampering their momentum.
  • 13.5Short in length on middle, pulled to deep backward square leg for a couple of runs.
  • 13.4Run out appeal is taken upstairs! It's a good piece of wickekeeping. Sarfraz kneels to fetch a full toss from around off and works it through square leg. He rushes back for the second run as the fielder fires in the throw at the striker's end. Sadeera Samarawickrama collects the ball and flicks it onto the stumps as Ahmed puts in a dive. It's referred upstairs but Sarfraz is found safe in the replays.
  • 13.3Pitches it full and outside off, Hafeez drives it square of the wicket on the off side and collects a single.
  • 13.2Shortish and on middle, glanced through square leg for a run.
  • 13.1Too full in length on middle, Hafeez plays a paddle shot in front of square leg and takes a single.
  • 12.6Full and outside off, driven through covers for a run. The run-rate is quietly approaching 8. 54 needed off 42 balls. 71/4
  • 12.5On a good length outside off, Ahmed plays it down through point for one.
  • 12.4Clever change in pace by Perera. He foxes his counterpart there who is early into his shot and fails to put bat on ball.
  • 12.3A mistimed pull shot by Sarfraz. He just manages to clear the infield at mid-wicket and takes another couple of runs.
  • 12.2A little short in length outside off, Sarfraz fetches it from there and pulls it in front of square leg. A sliding stop made in the deep and they collect a couple. Have to say, fielding has been top notch tonight, from both teams.
  • 12.1A gentle length delivery outside off, Hafeez steers it through point for a single.
  • 11.6Angling in a full ball on off, Hafeez leans forward and across to pushes it down towards long on for a run. 64/4
  • 11.5Sarfraz hits a length ball on the up and pierces the gap through cover-point for one.
  • 11.4Presses forward to a full ball and drives it through covers for a run.
  • 11.3Good length ball on off, defended from the crease by Hafeez.
  • 11.2Driven towards the mid on region. They pick up a single.
  • 11.1Fullish and on middle, clipped through mid-wicket for a run.
  • Dasun Shanaka is into the attack.
  • 10.6Short and angled into the batsman, a mistimed pull shot played by Sarfraz towards mid on. 4 runs and a wicket from the over! 59/4
  • 10.5Works a straighter delivery around the corner for a single.
  • 10.4Good length delivery outside off, stroked through point for one.
  • 10.3A little bit of width outside off, Sarfraz throws his bat at it, trying to go square of the wicket on the off side but edges it down to third man for a brace.
  • 10.2Shortish and on off, Sarfraz punches it to point.
  • 10.1OUT! Perera leading from the front. He hunts down the big fish this time. Don't mind me saying but it was a pretty innocuous delivery. Landing on a length and going almost straight on. Malik pushes at it tamely and gets a faint edge behind to the keeper. Samarawickrama makes no mistake, they all scream in a joyous appeal and the finger goes up. This match is becoming interesting with the passage of every minute. 70 needed from 59 balls. Over to Sarfraz Ahmed.
  • 9.6Quicker one, flatter through the air and shorter in length, Hafeez taps it to point. 55/3
  • 9.5Too full in length outside off, Hafeez comes down the track but only manages to squeeze it out as far as covers.
  • 9.4Uses his feet and eases it down to long on for one.
  • 9.3Gets on the front foot to a full ball and drives it through covers for a run.
  • 9.2Another shot played with gentle hands by Malik. He calmly flicks it through mid-wicket for a single.

  • 8.6Back of a length delivery outside off, punched off the back foot to covers. 51/3
  • 8.5Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • Mohammed Hafeez is in next.
  • 8.4OUT! Wow, now go to the third ball and imagine the kind of impact that exceptional piece of fielding has on this wicket. Firstly it kept Shehzad on strike, frustrated him too and now has uprooted him from the crease. It's that fielder again, Dasun Shanaka, playing his part in this wicket. A short ball is pulled by Shehzad, not a proper connection and Shanaka times his jump to perfection at short mid-wicket to catch it over his head. Awesome display!
  • 8.4Wide called for a height! A bouncer goes over the batsman's head.
  • 8.3Dasun Shanaka, you Jonty Rhodes! The ball was travelling but he made a brilliant diving stop. A short ball on off, Shehzad blasts his pull shot across the line and will feel hard done by that exceptional piece of fielding. Robbing him of a certain boundary.
  • 8.2Played to the point region by the batsman. No run.
  • 8.1Opportunity at the bowler's end! Back of a length delivery angling back into the batsman, Shehzad skips down the track and punches it square of the wicket on the off side. They cross for a run and Malik is taken by surprise that Shehzad hurries back for the second run. Shoaib is always ready for those, he responds but is casually watching back as the throw was fired at the striker's end. Samarawickrama senses that and immediately has a shy at the bowler's end. Malik had to stretch there. Would have been touch and go in case of a direct hit.
  • Thisara Perera brings himself into the attack.
  • 7.6Pitches it full and on off, it's driven through covers for another run. Tidy over. 47/2
  • 7.5Finds the gap this time with his forward press and push through the line. Goes through to sweeper cover and they cross.
  • 7.4Fires this one in, getting closer to the off stump line, thereby not allowing much room. Malik drives it back.
  • 7.3Nice delivery, good flight and it's on the fuller length around off, Malik lunges and defends it back.
  • 7.2Leans forward to a full ball and pushes it back to the bowler.
  • 7.1Flighted full ball on middle, nudged behind square leg for one.
  • 6.6Udana switches to around the wicket and bangs in a bouncer on off, Malik is in no mood to take unnecessary risk. He ducks underneath it. 44/2
  • 6.5Full and on off, angling away, Ahmed stays back to push at it but it takes the inside edge and ricochets off his pads to point. They steal another run.
  • 6.4Shortish and outside off, Malik packs a punch from the back foot, a ferocious square cut but Danushka Gunathilaka makes a brilliant half stop. Only a single taken. Sri Lanka need to be on top of their game in the field.
  • 6.3Tries to run it down to third man but it's too close to his body. He fails to middle and as a result it goes off the high half of the bat to the keeper.
  • 6.2Brilliant piece of running between the wickets! A touch short in length again, Malik goes on his toes and taps it in front of square leg. The fielder rushes from the deep but cannot prevent the second run.
  • 6.1Back of a length delivery on middle, Shehzad pulls it through backward square leg for a single.
  • 5.6Flatter through the air, a touch short and outside off, Shehzad plays a late cut down to third man and picks up three runs. 39/2 in the Powerplay overs! 39/2
  • 5.5With Malik in the middle, the scoreboard will keep ticking. He works a full ball down the ground to long off for a single.
  • 5.4Arm ball on middle, skidding in, Shehzad dances down the track to heave it over mid-wicket but it takes the inside half of the bat and rolls behind square leg for a run.
  • 5.3Shehzad has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 5.3Wide! Skidding down the leg side with the angle, Ahmed fails to flick it.
  • 5.2Flighted ball on off, knocked down to long off for a run.
  • 5.1Tossed up ball on off, Malik gets forward to block it.
  • Sachith Pathirana is into the attack now.
  • 4.6Outside off, tapped down towards point for a run. 32/2
  • 4.5The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 4.4A good looking drive by Malik again but he finds the cover fielder.
  • 4.3Fullish and outside off, driven off the front foot to covers.
  • 4.2Full and on middle, defended back.
  • Shoaib Malik is the new batsman.
  • 4.1OUT! Babar has been adjudged lbw, yet another single digit score for him. This game is a great leveller. He struggled in Tests, showed Bradmanesque form in the ODIs and once again is going through a lean form in the shortest version. Shifting between formats ain't easy. Coming to the wicket, it's angled away from the batsman, landing around middle and off and skidding through in the direction of the bowler's arm. Azam gets across a shade trying to defend but misses and is rapped on the pads. They appeal and the umpire raises his finger after thinking for a while. No DRS available (not sure why, as according to the new rules of ICC it should have been there) and a dejected Azam returns to the pavilion. The replays show that the impact was umpire's call but it was missing the off stump. A harsh call.
  • Udana is brought into the attack.
  • 3.6Angles it in on the pads, tucked through square leg for a single. 31/1
  • Babar Azam is the new batsman.
  • 3.5OUT! Miscommunication and Pakistan have lost their first wicket! But exceptional fielding in the deep from Udana. Seam-up delivery on the pads, Zaman whips it towards mid-wicket. Udana in the deep puts in a brilliant dive to stop the boundary. And then he gets up quickly and fires an accurate throw to the keeper. Zaman wanted the third, Shehzad called for it but then at the last moment sends him back. By the time Zaman dives to get back in, the keeper already dislodges the bails. They refer it upstairs and replays confirm that Fakhar is well short of his ground. He walks back fuming.
  • Another run out in the game, 4th one of the match to be precise! And to be honest, Zaman seems to be struggling here. It is taken upstairs...
  • 3.4Drops it short outside off, Zaman pulls it straight to the man at mid on.
  • 3.3Floats it up outside off, slapped straight to the fielder at cover.
  • 3.2Around middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 3.1FOUR! Cut away in style! Shorter in length and ample of width outside off, Shehzad goes deep in the crease and cuts it past the diving backward point fielder for a boundary.
  • 2.6Gives a bit of width this time. Zaman drives it straight to the cover fielder. 23/0
  • 2.5FOUR! Change of bat doing it for Zaman! He just changed the bat and scores a boundary on the very first ball. Fuller in length, angling in, Zaman brings his bat down in time and nails it past the man at mid on for a boundary.
  • Change of bat for Zaman.
  • 2.4Good length delivery, curling back in, Zaman awkwardly whips it through square leg and comes back for a double.
  • 2.3Keeps it fuller on middle, driven straight to mid on.
  • 2.2Leading edge... safe! Angles it in from a length around middle, Shehzad closes the bat face early to clip but the ball goes off the leading edge and nearly goes to the fielder at cover. Luckily, for Ahmed it lands just short of the man there. A single taken.
  • Slip goes to gully.
  • 2.1On a good length and just outside off, Shehzad defends it towards cover of the back foot.
  • 1.6Loopy it up around middle and leg, wristed through the leg side for a single. 16/0
  • 1.5FOUR! Crashed! Flatter delivery outside off, Shehzad backs away and absolutely cracks it through covers for a boundary.
  • 1.5Wide! Sprays it down leg, Shehzad gets down to sweep but fails to get nay wood on it. The keeper takes the bails off but the batsman was easily in.
  • 1.4Comes forward and drives it towards mid off for a single.
  • 1.3Darts it on the pads, whipped behind square on the leg side for a single.
  • 1.2Loopy delivery around middle, flicked straight to mid-wicket.
  • 1.1Starts off with a tossed up ball outside off, driven down to long off for a single.
  • So, spin from the other end! Dilshan Munaweera to roll his arm over...
  • 0.6Nearly hits the yorker mark, Fakhar keeps it out on the leg side, finds the gap and crosses. 7/0
  • 0.5A little bit of width on offer outside off, Ahmed runs it down to third man for one.
  • 0.4Swings and swings hard, yes too hard but not enough to clear ropes. Shehzad lofts it over mid-wicket, a lot of elevation there but not much distance. It falls safely in the deep mid-wicket region for a couple of runs.
  • 0.4Wide! Slips a length ball down the leg side, Shehzad tries flicking but missing.
  • 0.3Angling in a full ball on off, Shehzad strides forward and defends it to the off side.
  • 0.2Sees the movement last delivery and gets greedy, Sanjaya. Bowls it full and in the line of the middle stump, hoping for a dream ball but Shehzad nicely covers everything and flicks it through mid-wicket for a couple of runs. Pakistan are away and so is Ahmed Shehzad.
  • 0.1Hint of swing first up. Full and on off, Shehzad is on the front foot as he pushes it gently towards mid off.
  • Welcome back for the run chase! Pakistan openers, Fakhar Zaman and Ahmed Shehzad walk out in the middle. Vikum Sanjaya to kickoff the proceedings with the ball. Can he get an early breakthrough? A slip in place for him...
